Friday, January 13, 2023 - Root Day - Decanted off a small amount of fine sediment. Just a touch of browning and faded colour on both the core and rim - still garnet but with some mahogany added in. Nose of dried flowers, dried red fruit, ripe red fruit, salted licorice and crushed dried savoury herbs. On the palate it’s warm with ripe red and black fruit, licorice, spice, dried fruit and just a touch of raisins. The finish is long with the fruit, raisins, spice and light herbs continuing. Warming finish from some alcohol heat (though it’s 13.5% stated). It’s really lovely and no where near over the hill. I purchased on release and kept in a good cellar. As it opens up the Carmenere (even though only 10%, the rest is Merlot) really shows up. I love the mint/eucalyptus it adds to the wine.
