Friday, September 30, 2022 - After yesterday and day before disaster with 7 years old wine from reputable winery (Lafite) I didn't want to take any risk to drink again relatively young wine. And so I took risky business and I picked up this 23 years old wine. And the risk paid off completely. What a wonderful wine! Smell is incredible: crazy mix of black currant, leather, herbs ( strong and nice), tobacco, smoke.
The taste can be broken down into two stages, the first being mild and the second being strong.
1. Juicy and fresh (yes!) flavors of black cherry, black currant, blackberry, black chocolate (?).
2. Tobacco, black pepper, spice, black currant (again). All of them come together into long, long finish with red cherry and red currant at the very end ( sign of age?)
One more thing - this wine is second wine from Chateau d'Issan. Basically, according the winery, this wine is from younger vines ( 30 years old) and it includes more Merlot.
Depends on vintage, but it could be as high as 40%
12.5% ABV
Good old days...
