Saturday, April 12, 2014 - Quelle dommage! Latour has been my guiding standard, even while migrating to burgundy, and after drinking scores of Latours from 1945-1983, I expected this to approximate the 1967 or 1976. Instead, this bottle, at least, showed little of the regal dominant, powerful cassis, dark fruit and stone Latour nose, that gateway into the Valhalla of wine gods. The wine was neither corked nor off, just not showing, even after an hour's decant, much beyond mellifluous dark cherry, cassis, smokey earth and a nice finish-- all without expressive definition. Could need time, could be an off bottle, but even off vintages like 1973, 1974 and 1980 always tasted like Latour. And 2001 Bordeaux generally are classic wines.

Probably, as you noted, just needs more time or a six hours plus generous decantation.
I'm also a 2001 Bdx believer so my only bottle for the next 2026 :-)
    Cheers!
