Sunday, August 21, 2022 - this is delicious and rich. we opened and decanted it 3 hours ago and it was so good it was hard to wait for it to evolve, but we did so, tasting only twice in between. now round, full, rich and delicious. But I keep comparing latours to my first one, a 1970 drunk in 1981, and so far none have come close to that in depth and intellectual interest. so this is wonderful wine, and on a special occasion, possibly worth it, but straight up, only if you have unlimited funds.

edit: perhaps I decanted it a bit long, as it actually had more power and interest when first opened, although a bit tart. I would suggest pouring a full glass at the beginning and drinking that slowly over an hour or so while the wine decants, to experience its evolution more fully.

2nd edit: After reading notes from people underwhelmed by this wine, and not wanting to mislead anyone considering buying it, I feel an obligation to say that unless you are (like me) absolutely unable to resist occasionally having a Latour, this wine although lovely, cannot be said to be at all worth the current $800 price. I would say, in terms of quality, it should be priced at most $200-$250, but since it is one of the most sought after labels on earth...
