Thursday, December 23, 2010 - This reminds me of the 2004, as it was 2 years ago, meaning that probably the 2005 is evolving at a slower pace than its predecessor. The wine is still very primary and somewhat unconnected and the oak effect is very intense. My experience with previous vintages tells me that this wine will evolve at least as gracefully as the best Catena Alta Malbecs of the past. The color is very dark purple and the nose is very plummy with intense vanilla, sweet spice and hints of chocolate and moccha. Full-bodied on the palate, with firm but fine grained tannins, rich fruit and balancing acidity. The finish is long but the oak dominates. It would be unfair to score it at this stage.
