Saturday, April 15, 2017 - My last bottle (June 2016) clearly had a bit of negative bottle variation as my bottle tonight was simply spectacular. Raspberry, cherry and earth on the nose. Between medium and full bodied (14.5% ABV) and needed 60 minutes open to show properly and continued to improve over the course of five hours in total. Similar flavor profile to prior bottle with black and red cherry upfront along with raspberry and then deepening strongly with plum and more blackfruit based notes. Bright fruit throughout, but balanced nearly perfectly with the darker, deeper notes as well as the excellent acidity. Finishes cleanly with a smooth transition to the floral, mineral, leather, tar and earth notes. This wine has a pretty nose, wonderful fruit, exceptional depth and that silky, refined elegance that marks top brunellos. Drinking beautifully now, but with the fruit and structure to stay at this level for several more years.
