Tuesday, May 10, 2011 - Matt Scott, in a tasting note below with his comment re: spice. For me, rich fruit and spicy, crisp toasted oak. Thankfully (for my palate) there is not much in the way of buttery, mouth-puckering malo. I don't get a lot of the "oyster" or "minerals". Big fruit / big oak. This is close to my nirvana in a Cali chard. This is however a Chard on the big side with the aforementioned oak, and becomes bigger (and perhaps less crisp) the longer it's open. My other note of caution relates to the ABV, which gives a slight bite on the finish. Not a summer sipper. I think I'll save my next bottle to have around a winter campfire.
