94 Points

Saturday, March 17, 2012 - Decanted for about 3-4 hours. Dark ruby red, for a 11-year old wine there wasn't much fading around the edges... looked more like it was 3-4 years old. Beautifully expressive nose of cassis, cherry, violets, cedar, tobacco and a little mint, vanilla & caramel. On the palate, sweet, full bodied texture - layered on the attack with cherry, plum, cassis, tobacco, with medium acidity resolving into velvety, smooth teeth coating grippy tannins and a long 30-40 second tart cherry finish. Quite well structured and balanced.

Seriously good stuff... a bit more primary on the fruit than I would have expected for the age. Very heavy for what I expected to be a much lighter wine at 13.6%abv, but apparently they were able to get the extraction and fruit without going crazy on the brix.
