93 Points

Saturday, August 2, 2008 - Deep and brooding, with a fabulous nose that I could've sniffed forever. Based on the nose, this was a 96-98 point wine. The palate was good, with typical Shafer density and purity of fruit, good balance, and showed typicity. There was a bit of over-ripeness (surprising given this producer) that detracted somewhat. Not sure if it was an off bottle, or this is a component in the wine right now. Drinks well now, but hopefully will improve with time and that overripe component fade away.
