Monday, May 3, 2021 - Milton's Birthday (Chao Shan): A classic mature Chambolle - this was very enjoyable. The nose was very attractive, with an under layer of brush and spice and dried earth, maybe just a layer of funk - very Ghislaine Barthod there - and then more Chambolle notes of flowers and dark cherries giving a prettier lilt. The palate was very fresh, very 1993, with a liveliness and purity belying its age - here, we had juicy red cherries and berries touched with bits of earth, a little litter of rose petals, and a little sprinkle of spice, all leading into a surprisingly minerality finish. Not the most polished or refined Chambolle, but really charming, enjoyable stuff - and drinking very well now. A lovely drop.
