Saturday, January 6, 2024 - Tonight w/ Nita's homemade Pizza. Well at age 17/18 I remain pleased I never added addl vintages of this. Records say I still have 2 more. Ugh! For me, this is dense & lacking any sense of refinement. It does have some complexity but just doesn't rock me. I gave it plenty of air with a 3hr slow-ox but I should have decanted it as its loaded w/ sediment. Thought I could manage the sediment with careful same directional pours but I still ended up tossing the last 2-3 inched in the btl out. Hoping my records are wrong and the last 2btls listed in CT no longer exist :). I remain a Chianti lover of many basic classico but not these more expensive cuvees.

I'm a bit grumpy about this wine still existing in my cellar since I'm not in love with it. I do think its ready to drink with a decant to clear the sediment. Had I decanted it, I may have enjoyed it more. I kind of think I don't own more but CT says I do. If, I do its in my offsite storage.

1/10/2024 9:55:00 AM - Yep, speaking of "plenty of btls". Several years ago I realized I was drinking my really good btls too soon and started buying QPRs on a reg basis. Now, I have to slow down my QPR buying and get used to the idea of drinking some of my higher end stuff more often. Even during the week :). I have many really good btls in their mid-drinking windows but, I'm still reluctant to open them most days between Sunday & Thursday :). And, I lean too much towards wanting to open them only around my wine geek buddies vs family.

    I'm working on that....

1/10/2024 10:21:00 AM - Good for you Craig. You deserve that. Honestly, the rate at which I have been buying has way outpaced my ability (or desire) to drink and I'm now well past a capacity issue so my resolve is to simply drink whatever sounds good since there is little risk in running out. 30% of my cellar contains bottles that are 10 years old or older...so I'm reaching that desired (for me) equilibrium point where new purchases are able to slumber while I cherry pick selections that are vinous or developing -Jay
