Tuesday, February 28, 2023 - Gorgeous mature Margaux and a true value at what I paid for it. First, I worried that this would be old ripe fruit tasting like prunes, but nope. This wine had the finesse you expect of a Margaux, the restraint and earthiness you expect of a Bordeaux, and the tertiary development you expect of a 33 year old wine. On the nose, there was iron shaving, wet earth, sous bois, graphite, flowers, barnyard, and very little fruit. What fruit there was came through on the palate only in the background. The palate was much the same, though the barnyard faded away quickly and the fruit filled out a little, but not much. This wine had presence in the mouth, and wasn't exactly delicate, but the tannins were mostly resolved. This hasn't at all hit "old" yet, but the fruit has begun fading. I'd say its in the perfect spot to open and enjoy, and it most likely lacks the stuffing to last much beyond its 50th year.
