Saturday, February 27, 2021 - I was shocked at how much I liked this wine. I’m trying to cull some low scoring wines from my cellar and this popped up on a CT sort by rating query I ran this morning. It was gifted years ago so I said what the heck. If it’s lousy I’ll dump it (like I did last night with a 2005 Burgundy) and search for another bottle for Saturday drinking.
I opened for an hour with no decanting and started sipping with a savory meatloaf dinner. Wow this wine had presence. Unmistakably Bordeaux cigar box and leathery notes. Dried red fruits and some spicy notes, maybe from the tannat. Paired perfectly with the meal. The finish lasts as long as my slow typing on my iPhone for each sentence! Pleasantly surprised.
