92 Points

Monday, January 29, 2018 - Wonderful shy nose of honey, melon, and orchard fruit (peach, pear, apricot, and a hint of apple). Lighter bodied and less sweet than most of Huet's First Selections. Peach, pear, faint apricot, and citrus on the palate with a little less of the botrytis gingery spice than usual. There's some peach pit / bitter almond on the finish. Definitely NOT what the big vintages show, and is starting to integrate the residual sugar and acidity already. This seems to be well ahead of it's cousins from '05 and '09, maybe even '02, in it's evolution. Very good showing for a "lesser" vintage. I don't know if this has the stuffing to age for decades, but will certainly drink well for the immediate future and then some.
