Saturday, May 16, 2009 - Berrys Champagne School (BBR): BBR Champagne tasting. €75 per bottle. (I understand that this is regarded as one of the best NV rosés on the market (along with Billecarte-Salmon). Macerated on the lees rather than having red blended in.) A tabby, almost pink-brown, appearance, although it nonetheless looks young and fresh. Very vibrant mousse - smallest bubbles of any Champagne yet seen today, and with extremely pacy ascension in the glass. The nose is still very much Champagne (not red wine or still rosé), but with the pleasant addition of some red fruit notes (raspberry and cranberry), and also vanilla (!). The palate is interesting - at first not hugely different to the white Champagnes, only on the finish does the red fruit re-appear. Very pleasant. Medium-long, fruity finish. Good plus.
