Deep orange colour with a wonderful stream of fine bubbles. Lovely maturing nose with an explosion of strawberries, coffee, fudge and resin from the start. With glass time it opens up with notes of lilac and roses in a very seductive way. Intense on the palate with a nice smooth acidity and fruitfulness with strawberries that are drying up, an excellent mid part holding up before the long lasting finish showing hints of leather and a softened lemon acidity before a peppery note take over on the tip of the tongue...
I’m amazed how well preserved this bottle was, being a non-vintage rosé and still showing plenty of fruit and with a smooth structure, the storage must have been exceptionally well . This is one of the best mature rosé champagnes that I’ve had and a wonderful match with a confit de canard with rhubarb chutney matching its peppery notes perfectly. (Best with 5-15 years of extra cellaring)
