Community Tasting Note

Wednesday, October 10, 2018 - Tasted over two nights, this is surprisingly youthful for a wine more than 15 years old. First taste was with an hour open, and it was still rather monolithic. It took another hour of air for things to unfold, and then the wine showed as a textbook, classic classified growth, left bank wine. Dark cassis and blackberry fruit, hints of cedar and pencil shavings, and subtle herb tones were framed by substantial, yet balanced tannins. On night two it showed nearly exactly as on night one, allowing for the slight degree of oxidation from the extra 24 hours. A few hours in a decanter make this a very pleasurable wine to drink now, but five or more years make sense. Classy stuff that fits what I look for in Bordeaux.
