Tuesday, December 28, 2021 - 2019 Visit to North Canterbury, NZ: Served double blind by Huw. Bottle brought back from Huw’s time working at Dujac. Deep, dark colour. A serious, dark nose of black cherry and blackberry, with brushwood, savoury nuances, musk, beef and mushrooms. On palate, serious, savoury and earthy. Not at all showy but showing real quality and gravitas. Black fruit, dried herbs and iron. I picked 2008 – it had 2008 acidity and austerity, but all in balance – guessing it was Morey-St-Denis rather than Vosne-Romanée. Not full bodied but with sufficient fruit weight, architecture and power. Seamless, elegant mouth feel. Svelte, refined tannins. A beautiful wine with years of upside. Wine of the day.
