Wednesday, June 1, 2011 - Very intense nose of red berries and light leather tones. Color Port wine-ishly purple with a touch of maroon in the edges. Surprisingly soft and round yet powerful palate with strong dark fruits, herbs and a touch of leather. Some oakiness that was more felt than tasted; that of which could be tasted, was more in the vein of woody notes rather than those of vanilla or chocolate. Lively acidity with strong, full and tannic body. Very strong and quite lengthy finish that made it seem that the flavors remained as strong as those on the mid-palate even though the wine had been swallowed. Elegant, floral notes with some heat in the finish. An excellent Super-Tuscan with loads of aging potential for a decade or so; currently it felt it was painfully young. However, not that much of QPR at 64€ for a bottle; with that price, you can get two or three excellent Chianti Classicos or Brunellos that have all that this wine carries, except for that swag you get for totting around a bottle of Tignanello. A legendary wine worth checking, but not worth bying, unless you can find one for under a fifty.
