2001 Penfolds Shiraz St. Henri

94 Points

Sunday, December 25, 2022 - I have always enjoyed this wine. When compared to RWT, 389, 128, 28, and Grange, it's not the showiest or opulent. Rather it's a good showing of fruit and elegance and polished tannins. This vintage is good-great.

Color. Saturated red

Nose. Blackberries, craisins, baking spice, cinnamon, clove, a little alcohol, violets.

Palate. Big entry of fruit. Blackberries and raspberries are the dominant fruits. Then the mid palate enters with smooth oak and tannins. The finish is long and smooth with a finely balanced teeter-totter of fruit and tannins. Lasts at 45 seconds.
