Tuesday, April 14, 2009 - Another wow wine - greatly enjoyed this last night at the monthly meeting of the Hickory Wine Club at Lake Hickory CC as part of a blinded '00 - '06 vertical tasting, what an unreal flight of wines. So big, bold, spicy and muscular that I thought all of these wines were Australian shirazs before being un-blinded. Huge bouquet of balanced oak, red cherry, smoke and herbs. Inky black, very well balanced, very full bodied and complex with enough tannins and structure in place for many years of cellaring. Primary flavors included well balanced oak, dark fruit, some underlying mint, licorice, black currants with development of smoke and black pepper on a long aftertaste. Simply great, highly recommend this.
