An opaque purple color, with primary aromas of blueberry syrup and licorice. Full bodied on the palate, with a thick texture -- nothing feminine about this brute. Very concentrated, with noticeable alcohol,firm tannins, and a slightly closed finish. I don't know where this wine is going -- my first experience with the '01 and I have a bottle in the cellar -- but I don't see how it will ever reach the heights of the '97 or '98, which seemed to come from a different winery alltogether.
