90 Points

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - This was a real treat, drinking wine which was harvested in the Bundesrepublik just weeks before the Wall was tore down. Green-tinted deep gold colour. Massive, stinky petroleum nose, deep and layered, smoke, kerosene, hints of apple and cinnamon underneath. Medium palate, bigger than the alcohol suggests, yellow apples, cinnamon and star anise. Smooth and excellent balance, long finish. If I have one complaint it would be that it has lost its acidic bite, confirmed by the heavy sediment thrown on the side of the bottle. Nevertheless a very fine wine with a real sense of occasion. Drink now
