Medium plus gold. Deeply oxidized nose with savory apple-butter and toast notes from age. Slight toasted almond. Notable buttercream, butterscotch, and apple pastry nose. Well-integrated oak. Still a bit of rawness - it's not completely tertiary.
Palate: Dry, medium plus body, 13.5% alcohol, high+ acid.

The oak is pretty prominent, but the acid is also high. It has a distinctly sherried quality (almond skins on the finish) that speaks to intentional oxidation.

Laterals:
- White rioja
- Arbois Chardonnay or savagnin
- Older Chardonnay.

Given the prominence of oak, I think this is a Rioja Gran Reserva, 2003. More modern producer - french oak - not LDH or La Rioja Alta.

Actually 1998 Tondonia LdH Reserva!
