Saturday, January 20, 2024 - A treat to have an old school BdM from a dear friend's father's cellar, this surprised by the dark color of the fruit. We gave this a chance at the decanter and the wine offered a fairly delicate mixture of dry fruit, potpourri, old library smell of leather books. The body was firm and a bit dry and stout. Good acidity and a medium finish. Became a lot more pleasurable with food (matched with grill rack of lamb, Rostie potatos and brocolini). I found it to be more educational then hedonistic and enjoyed the flavor profile more then the aromatic component. I did not rate this as I have very little reference points to the old classic BdM's of the "old ways" with most of my bottles of that era from the early to mid 90's that i consumed about a decade ago. A much more austere style then the more recent releases of Biondi from this century which I find more enjoyable. Overall when it comes to the great 78 vintage I would hang my hat on some good riserva Nebiollo but I enjoyed the experience -Thanks SL for sharing this special bottle.
