Friday, May 31, 2013 - Bordeaux 2004 - an overview (Restaurant Bottles, Sas van Gent): Traditional countryside nose, barnyard, cured meats, grilled vegetables, forestfruit, damp earth. Nicely balanced and persuasive. Could use a tad more thickness and structure. 17.5-18/20 (group scores: 91-94)

6/4/2013 4:05:00 AM - Hi there Jkoenen,
My original idea about 2004 is that vintage is producing austere wines, far away from a complex juice at this point.
Do you think is peaking now? Thinking to wait just until 2018.
Cheers,

6/4/2013 4:11:00 AM - Hi Harley1199,
One of our conclusions was that lots of Bordeaux from this vintage are drinking beautifully right now, although they need a proper decant.
The higher end wines are still quite closed and not giving very much. But, my guess is that they are opening up in the next 2-3 years. After all, we were very enthusiastic about these wines!
Cheers, jkoenen

6/4/2013 4:31:00 AM - Hi again,
Hope you're right!
2004 was a vintage in Bordeaux I bought more widely than deeply.
Anyway some good second row wineries are included.
Cheers,
