90 Points

Sunday, November 4, 2007 - Served with Ziti with tomatoes, Capocollo, and diced Mozzarella. Well, the third time must be the charm, as this was by far the best of three experiences I’ve had with this wine. Is it worth $70? Heck no, its still hideously overpriced, but for the first time I really found myself enjoying the wine for what is was, versus how this purchase effected my Visa statement. I really think the Ziti pairing really was the catalyst, as I tasted some real Sangio character of dried cherries, cured tobacco, leather and good acidity. Yet, this is still very much a wine of modern character, with plenty of toasty oak and chocolate at its core. But again, the food really seemed to bridge these two sides into a compelling experience that caught me completely by surprise.
