Monday, February 28, 2011 - 50/50 Cab/Merlot blend for this vintage. No Sangiovese at all. Dark inky red hues with violet tinges. Prunes, black cherries, licorice and touches of smoke and green pepper on the nose. On the palate the fruity Merlot fills hits you first with bright cherries and a silky rich texture. The Cab firms it up with some green austerity and tannic backbone keeping it balanced and far from flabby. Good concentration and complexity and frankly, delicious. Maybe just a little pricey.
