Monday, May 4, 2015 - Chardonnay sourced from multiple locations: Napa (59%), Sonoma (31%), Mendocino (7%) and Marin (3%). Aged for 30 months on the lees. Dosage 11,5 g/l.

Youthful and intense lime-green color. Ripe, rich and toasty nose with complex aromas of sweet baked apple, sliced Granny Smith apple, bready autolysis, some freshly-baked brioche, a little bit of lemon curd and a hint of nuttiness. The wine is dry, mineral and already somewhat developed with nuanced flavors of ripe golden apples, steely minerality, some juicy sweet citrus tones, a little bit of mature nutty complexity, a hint of toasty autolysis and a touch of creaminess. The high acidity and firm, crisp mousse make the wine feel structured, refreshing and well-balanced. The finish is long, crisp and complex with toasty flavors of steely minerality, baked apple, some autolytic toasted bread, a little bit of developed caramel, a hint of chopped nuts and a touch of tangy lemony citrus fruit.

A very bright, sophisticated and complex Blanc de Blancs that shows how great a winery Schramsberg is: this is not only a great sparkling wine on its own, but also one that would fool even a Champagne enthusiast into believing this is a BdB from Champagne! Very serious stuff with a lot of depth, great structure and wonderful harmony. Starting to get into its sweet spot in the tasting window, but I have no doubts this wine will continue to develop for another 8-10 years. A beautiful bubbly, very highly recommended.
