Monday, December 11, 2023 - Emboldened by posts declaring this ready to drink, I popped the first of six bottles. Decanted 2 hours. Silly of me. Fill was still near cork. Color still dark and purplish. Densely fruited core unevolved. Drank perfectly well with a pork roast, but then a $25 "gran reserva" from a less distinguished house would have been just as satisfactory. IMO, gran reservas from great producers in classic vintages, like top Burgundy and Bordeaux, simply shouldn't be touched for 30 years after release and won't show at best until age 40-80. Recently had a 1962 Lopez, not even a gran reserva, that was still improving. Looks like my trove of 1994s and 2001s will need saving for posterity. I will stick with the 1964s for now and hope to enjoy the 1982s in a few years.
