Sunday, May 5, 2013 - This falls into the WOW category. It is big, showy and over the top. It's the kind of wine that you love for one glass, but then have difficulty drinking pairing with food or drinking a lot of. It is very dark in color, the nose is clean, with lots of vanilla and berry cobbler and american oak influences. The palate is very fruit forward but remarkeably dry. The acidity is medium (+), the tannins are medium (++) and the minerality is medium (+). The alcohol is medium (+) at 15.4%. The mouthfeel is medium, with some roughness on the palate. Overall, this a remarkeable expression of Petit Sirah, which is moderately balanced and actually skewed slightly towards hardness rather than softness. Drinkeable now, but could should benefit from several years more ageing to allow better integration. This is definitely a high end Petit Sirah which should almost be in a category of its own.
