Tuesday, February 26, 2013 - Curiosity led me to this bottle. I purchased 6 bottles from Garagiste in 2008, and at my last pickup in the warehouse, I spotted this relic newly displayed in their 'shop'. Still $6.99. In the interest of revisiting an old friend, I decided to take it home and see what 8 years under a screwcap does to a cheap Australian Chardonnay.

nose: there is an undeniable funk here, though it is not too hard to overlook (oversniff?). Also tropical notes as before. I certainly didn't notice this funk 4 years ago, so perhaps it has evolved over time.
palate: The acidity is as I remember, though the fruit is duller. There is this odd funk that turns bitter towards the finish which detracts, but overall the wine is eminently drinkable, all things (well, price) considered.
EDIT: after an hour open the bitterness and funk became much more pronounced. TO the point that it was dumped. Educational, though.
