Deep ruby. Grape, blueberries, blackberry, raisins, slate mineral, herbs, milk chocolate, sea breeze, violets, cognac. Medium sweet, high alcohol, tannins, and acidity, full body.

Opaque purple color. Deep blue fruit, bramble, cloves, spicy, alcoholic. Probably needs more time for tannins to totally resolve. Tasty but not as complex as I would like. Medium finish.

dark fruit--of course--and a really pronounced anise nose. the alcohol is hidden nicely. really tightly wound, not showing too too much. don't revisit for another 5 years

From half-bottle. I decanted the wine for nine hours, poured it back into the rinsed bottle and consumed it over two days. It offered dark fruit jam, blackberry, blueberry, black tea and dark chocolate on the nose. On the palate the wine showed luscious concentrated dark fruit flavours, blueberry, lots of black tea, chocolate and spices, paired with medium-plus acidity, high aggressive but chocolaty tannin and very good length. The full-bodied Port contained the alcohol well and drank very well. Not the most structured or complex Port, but tons of concentrated fruit in combination with chocolaty tannin make this Port very enjoyable early in its life. 90+

We did not decant (we didnt have time) from start this was really open, with lots of sweet dark fruit, good density and really balanced. No harsh notes and the alchohol is in check with rest of the wine. Pretty long too. Interesting t try it young and would love to try it again in the future. 92 for now

After 24 Hours of decant, this is singing wonderfully, with loads of dark fruit and a bit of brambliness. Check back in a decade for something even better, but this is delicious and pretty easy right now, especially considering how hard it was yesterday.

St. Estephe Night (Home of Mike and Sandra O.): I really prefered this to the Taylor, despite the youth. Wonderful primary nose of dark fruits and caramel. No alcohol at all. Beautiful, densely concentrated palate, with gobs of dark frui--plum and currant-- but balanced with plenty of coarse tannins and an incredibly long finish. So young and primary, but the concentration, depth and balance were impressive. I'd drink more port if they were all like this. Love to see this in 30yrs.

A very young port still, INTENSE aromas of plum and other dark fruit along with some black licorice. Sweet wine with hints of deep fruit and extremely smooth with a long finish. Will continue to describe as it decants throughout the night. So far a great first Vintage Port!!

Wow! This is such an impressive wine. Cocoa and Coffee notes on the nose. Essence of black fruit. Very dense, thick fruit - but still has transparency. The minerality and a vinous quality really show through. The alcohol is totally in check. There are a lot of tannins lurking underneath, but right now they are buried under wave after wave of fruit. This is really in a good spot right now. If you like them young then you should try one. (From a bottle showing signs of past seepage).

I sipped this while reading Oporto, Old, and New (1899) so I took no formal notes. A book I might add is well worth reading for its historical information. Here are my very brief impressions after enjoying this little gem over a few days.
Such a dense and chewy Port full of fruit and mouth puckering tannins. This gained more stature by the second day as the finish lengthened and more tannins came forward. This is a spectacular VP and I'll have to seek out more of it. As this stage it's hard not to drink all the ones I've got, yet I know my patience will be rewarded many years down the road if I don't. 95(+) Points

Wine House Advanced: Richer, dried frts, powerful, big, but not as complex (yet); red currant, fig, blackberry, plum, prune, spice, med. + as, t’s, bod, big, chewy, will be serious! but now too much.

Very dark opaque reddish purple, not quite inky black. Fragrant nose of dark fruit, blueberries, plum, raisins, prune, black cherry, cinnamon, and flowers. The palate shows huge structure yet good balance. Long tannic slightly drying finish with lots of fruit and berries. Approachable now but there are massive tannins behind all that fruit and sweetness. Decant for 12+ hours if drinking now. This is a fantastic young Vintage Port that will age well for decades.

Bacchus blind tasting (My place): Black center with a purple hue. Potent nose with black berries and raisins sailing in liquor and some notes of spices. Similarly potent on the palate. Intense sweetness at first but becoming a bit more refined on the finish. Powerfull and well build, gaining with time in the glass and loads of air. Yet, this is painfully young, and needs serious cellaring.

Polaner Selections Fall Preview Tasting (New York City): Deep ruby color. The nose is pretty closed but for all that, extremely complex -- notes of spice, red fruit, menthol, meat, etc. Good acidity with an endless finish. This undoubtedly needs a lot of time to integrate the alcohol and flavors.

This one was the darkest one of the tasting. The nose was a bit muted and had a bit of heat. But you could still sense there was something there. It was rather dry and chalky compared to the others and seemed kind of thin. Not sure if this was a bad bottle or just really young and disjointed. Had a long finish with a lot of heat and tannins. Now I think this is just super young and really disjointed right now. I feel this one will need a really long time to come around. But when it does I think it will be great.

Tasted at the Niepoort Port Lodge in Vil Nova de Gaia - Dark opaque color. Brooding nose of graphite. Huge entry. Big fruit and then waves of tannins clamp down. This wine needs serious aging and will likely improve – a lot! 94++ Points

2003 Porto cask samples with Roy Hersh (Sammamish, WA): Charcoal and pepper come out on the nose. OMG, the palate is punishing, massive structure, reach for some bread and some water, try again, egads, ouch, this is just so freaking tannic I am blown away. On my third try I started to see the beauty of this young gorilla, but man oh man did my mouth feel worked over. Clearly this was the most overtly structured wine of the tasting. Roy says it has the goods for the long haul, but certainly I can't make that call. An impressive wine but one for your grandchildren.

Brambly, cloves …. a typical port without the heaviness/thickness. Feels like something is missing. Also some notes of honey …. grape bubblegum
