Absolutely delicious right now. Decanted for about 90 minutes and drank over a couple hours. Classic Barolo notes. Good balance. Not the last word in depth and finesse but very solid and enjoyable.

Christmas Eve dinner wine. Very enjoyable. Bright red sour cherry with some cedar/smoke secondary notes. Clean wine, but there’s a bit of heat there. It’s a really good wine, but when I had this on release I remember it being much better with a really cool cigar box aroma to it. Can’t say it’s really improved.

Disappointing based on my experience with several other vintages of this typically fine wine. Needs plenty of air. Barely drinkable by itself but better with pasta/Italian sausage dish second day. Seems to be past prime with little fruit. Color is good. An off-putting minerality note is present and the balance is off (high acidity). Integrated tannins and a short finish. Perhaps I just have a bad bottle, though stored properly.

Drinking well, good fruit with noticeable tannins slowly opened up, nice bouquet, light color, distinctive Nebbiolo flavors, surprisingly light on its feet, drank with pizza with mushrooms and prosciutto, would drink again, a great birthday wine, not sure it will improve with more tome so drink up.

Awesome Barolo. Bright, complex, and tightly coiled, with lots of fruit and freshness upfront and tannic grip on the back end. It comes alive after 3+ hours of air, showing earthy layers of smoke, cinnamon, cedar, tar, tobacco, and licorice atop candied, dark fruit concentration. Lovely with a long decant but I'd like to revisit in 3-4 years.

Decanted 3 hours before drinking (could have used more time airing). The color is deep ruby red and clear. The nose has cherries as the predominant component with mushroom and hints of smoke and spice. The palate has cherries, cardamom, and hints of apple.
The wine has a medium body without being heavy and a softly voluptuous mouth-feel. There is a balance of fruit, acid, and silky tannins with a long finish. At 13 years after harvest, the fruit is still prominent. Alcohol 14.5%. Drank with a pot roast having tomato and roasted garlic in the sauce, with rutabaga and parsnips. It paired very well.

Needed a 2 hr decant, then the red fruit and the rasberries started shining. Classic barolo, nothing earth shattering but very enjoyable. Drinking quite well and probably not a ton of benefit left from more aging. Drunk with lamb chops and truffles and was a perfect match.

2007 Pio Cesare Barolo On the nose, more soy sauce, mint, licorice, banana and vanilla. On the palate this is far more structured and heavy, with soy sauce, juicy cranberries, licorice, mint, rose, fruit, and a lot more structure, tannins and acid, more full bodied. 91/100

750ml; Double decanted 3 hrs prior; Medium ruby color, no noticeable bricking; Medium nose of red fruit, licorice; Palate of mostly cherry, slight licorice, mint, and cinnamon; Hints of leather; Medium (small) tannin and medium acidity. Nice enough wine with Italian dinner but I would hold longer for more secondary flavors to appear.

Color on the rather transparent, slightly past-prime side of things, do not think this will improve further. Slightly on the flat/acidic side of things, but opened up with time. Taste stays, but is somewhat thin...typical Barolo, although perhaps lacks a bit of juice/punch. If you have a bottle, decant and enjoy, no point in waiting any more here!

Good wine that will continue to develop with bottle age, but I don't think that it will ever be that much "better", just different. It's a good wine that has everything I want from Barolo, the nose of tar and roses, the tannins and grip. Will hold for a long time. Very enjoyable.

Decanted for about an hour. This wine's color shows its age. Transparent brick red.(4/5); Nose is one of light cherry fruit, oak, earth and mushrooms.(8/10). The tannins appear to be quite tame but not yet fully integrated. (14/20); The finish is long and thin (7/10). Ageing potential is minimal in my opinion as this wine seems to be on the backside of its life curve. (2/5) = 35 + 50 = 85

2007 PIO CESARE BAROLO- this wine needs time and has all of the makings to mature into a winner; upfront oak hits the nose first, then a big dollop of black fruit shows up and invites further investigation; the taste had spicy, liquorice and coffee flavoured plum, black currant and black cherry; underlying tannins provide an infrastructure to support a long life span and a seemingly rewarding one at that.

dark transparent red-purple-brown ripe red dry cherries nose with strawberries, wood and earthy notes medium bodied, tight firm tannins, well balanced, harmonised and structured, fine elegant complexity, rich earthy-leathery flavours, acetone hints, tart, fine finish and long aftertaste, still young and can age few more years - best until 2030.

I have had quite a few Barolos that did not excite me. But this wine hit all the right notes - beautiful nose, nice juicy flavors, and excellent balance. I decanted this 90 minutes before serving, but there was no sediment. We drank this with some simple spaghetti dishes, and continued to enjoy it until it was all gone. This was a very interesting / complex wine to drink, and the finish was quite impressive.

Good fruit, smooth, drinking well at an early stage, really enjoyed (with Roast Chicken & Lemon, River Cafe recipe). Brought back from Italy last year, and just have one more which am looking forward to, but will hold for a while. Have just ordered 12 of the 2010 (which is good value, currently).

Popped the corked, got a good whiff of the charming bouquet, and knew it would rock! Rose petals, lavender, violets, garrigue, Mediterranean herbs, tar, and hints of pepper star on the bouquet. Soothing, rose petal and red berry fruit driven attack...and then the wine's beastly structure comes out to play! A thing of ethereal beauty...rocky, earthy, mineral-driven, with a range of tannins - grainy to chunky - that clamp down and hold on through a finish that does not quit. What a wine! 93-94.

Candied cherries, strawberry and dark fruit on the nose. The palate is similarly fruit-forward with a minty streak on the finish. There is a nice earthiness however it is overshadowed by the sweetness of the fruit. Full-bodied, tannins gain presence after about two hours. Good - Hold

up front cherry, some raspberry, mint in lingering finish, superb balance with minerals. -some cherry candy notes. -perhaps some black licorice. This was extremely enjoyable! very enjoyable aromas, pale in colour. It was a little softer than I expected (in a good way), perhaps more like a barbaresco?

A level of freshness and structure here that the 2006 - served alongside this 07 - was lacking. Aromas show welcome typicity, and brightness, with changes each 15 minutes or so, adding interest, complexity. The palate is just as lively and well-crafted as the nose suggests, with rich flavors, ripe, crunchy tannins and remarkably fresh acids. In other words, everything I wanted from a normale in this vintage. recommended, drink thru 2024.
Aerated to decanter 90 minutes, returned to bottle and served non-blind.

Color- Deep claret Nose- Pepper-berry Body- moderately long Duration - Long Initial flavors were a combination of cinnamon, earthy tones with a ?flinty component, coriander, pepper, and berry. The majority of those resolved with time to leave a pepper-berry full bodied wine with subtle earthy flavors that held well on its own as well as with a strong flavored roast.

A really impressive wine and the aromas envelope the room upon opening. There's roses and tobacco and alcohol. The alcohol is a bit much and that's probably the only flaw with the wine. When served cooler its much less pronounced and seems to add to the overall complexity. This seems to be a trait of these nebbiolo wines, but in this case its a bit more obvious than normal. Still, I'm going to buy some more bottles.

14.5% abv. Med + depth, closer to garnet than ruby. Attractive, elegant, sweet spice nose with coffee and cherry, some complexity. Fine tannic texture, med +, round and ripe, high acidity, high alcohol, chalky finish, quite smooth. Coffee, black cherry, sweetness of fruit. Very good. Quite approachable already, balanced, little dry on the finish. Attractive wine with some complexity on nose, though palate is more one-dimensional.

I love this stuff! strong fruit, great depth and long lasting tannins. Joan says a wine with a great nose, smooth, full bodied and lingers well in the mouth. Joan throws down a 94 also. Garnet colored, legs are Slow, full bodied, Smooth texture and has a long finish. P.S. We are new to this, we know what we like but putting the taste to words will take some time.
Ruby coloured, light in intensity. Lovely and funky nose, moderate in intensity, of plum, leather, vanilla and rose. Moderate(+) acidity, full bodied, high tannins. Tight palate (which was expected due to its relatively young age) of more dark fruits, tar, leather, oak and mint. Medium length. Went well with the meat and tomato based dishes at Garibaldi's, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dark garnet color. Nose of tar, smoke, sweet plum, hoisin sauce. More plum, dried apricot, oak on the tongue. Medium acidity provides some balance with the fruit but is overwhelmed by the serious drying tannin, manageable with air only if you like big tannin. Finish is medium+ length with anise and a tinge of heat.
This was delicious with spaghettini arrabiata. I think I might grab a few more bottles for the long term. 14.5%

Decanted a few hours. Beautiful nose with truffle oil, rose pedal, vannilla and a hint of tar. Smooth and almost perfect balance. I can't believe how smooth and refined the tannins are in this young a Barolo; it's what makes this so amazing now yet the acidity is so fresh and crisp. Love this i think it's one of the best I have tasted so young. This will age a long time but man is it good now. drink 2015-2020.

Decanted for four hours. A plush, structured and feathery Barolo. My favorite of this bottling since '00 vintage. Raspberry, Chinese 5 spice, basil, rose petals, plum sauce and mineral-laced loam. Succulent and long, with each layer evidently showing its excellence; soft and muscular tannins. A vintage I love and this is a real crowd pleaser; better than the infamous '04 - classic balance and purity. You must decant. Drink 2014 -.

Could be that it came from Costco and has been sitting in a warm bin for months but this 07 was further aged than the 2004 I had last summer. Not as good, lighter in color and weight and overall just a lesser quality wine.

An Evening with Pio Boffa of Pio Cesare (Binnys Lakeview Catacombs): Classic profile barolo. Beautiful depth and approachable concentration. Dense, deep and fine black cherry and black fruit notes, with lots of deep blossom floral, violet and rose, deep perfume with a palate of somewhat angular full tannins, high acidity, medium plus to full body, and a streak of clove on the nose and finish. Will need 4 to 5 years to be approachable (even though it is tasty as a lineup wine now) and will drink for a long time after that. A beautiful wine. Highly recommend.

This has amazing structure and length, one of the better vintages from Pio for the basic Barolo. Great nose with clove, basil and violets full bodied with fine tannins that explode on a long long finish with cherry fruit, though restrained, and licorice and vinillan notes. Very fresh and vibrant now with balance and power. Can't wait to try this at 10 to 12 years of age. This just shows that 07 Barolo may be a great one. Drink 2015-23.

as I left the store I had this vision that the 2007 vintage style/characteristics and this producer's usual style would marry together to produce a staggeringly juicy and plump barolo straight off the bat. Ex-post comment: oops. Wall of tannins, great structure, floral with dark fruits - the hallmarks of a good/great barolo are there and can be drunk now for experimental purposes but really needs time to come out fully.

2007 PIO CESARE BAROLO- this wine needs time and has all of the makings to mature into a winner; upfront oak hits the nose first, then a big dollop of black fruit shows up and invites further investigation; the taste had spicy, liquorice and coffee flavoured plum, black currant and black cherry; underlying tannins provide an infrastructure to support a long life span and a seemingly rewarding one at that.

medium bodied, tight firm tannins, well balanced, harmonised and structured, fine elegant complexity, rich earthy-leathery flavours, acetone hints, tart, fine finish and long aftertaste, still young and can age few more years - best until 2030.

Very good, a little bit more power might benefit this wine (but that's maybe because I prefer full bodied wines)

up front cherry, some raspberry, mint in lingering finish, superb balance with minerals.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of potpourri, spice, berries and a hint of tobacco. Flavors of red berries, raspberries and cherries. Bright acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. I'd hold myself.

Color- Deep claret
Nose- Pepper-berry
Body- moderately long
Duration - Long
Initial flavors were a combination of cinnamon, earthy tones with a ?flinty component, coriander, pepper, and berry.

Ex-post comment: oops. Wall of tannins, great structure, floral with dark fruits - the hallmarks of a good/great barolo are there and can be drunk now for experimental purposes but really needs time to come out fully.
