Very good, but we probably waited to long. Lots of sediment. Not offensive, but very neutral, calm and enjoyable. Last in our cellar of this year and it served us well.

Have not tried a bottle in over 5 years and it is still drinking nicely. The cork broke upon extraction so I decanted using a vinturi and let it sit for two hours. Dark fruit on the nose, the palate is dark berries, tobacco, with hints of cassis running through the finish which is moderate to long. Served with some chesseburgers and sausage off the grill.

In Vino Veritas (in wine there is truth; people speak the truth when they are drunk), more bottles of my cellar sacrifices. I have gotten waaaaayyy behind in my postings and I need to catch them up, hence the 5 wine college. Going around the clock, the wines were a 2010 Haut Gravit, a 2009 Cinq Cepages from Château Saint Jean, a 2014 from Three by Wade, a 2014 Laurent Pinot and a 2016 Jason Pinot from Pahlmeyer. All of them were good, but the 2009 Cinq Cepages from Château St. Jean was outstanding!! 🍷🍷🍷👍👍👍 #wine #winelover #winelovers #redblend #redblendwine ##cabernetsauvignon #napawine #napa #napavalley #napacab #sonoma #pinot #pinotnoir #chateauHautGravit #CinqCepages #ChâteauSaintjean #Three by Wade, #Laurent #Jason Pinot #Pahlmeyer

Decanted 1 Hour before serving. Rich, bold, dark fruit flavors mixed with a dusty base of soft tannins. Mellowed the longer it was in the glass. Excellent long finish that accentuated the fruit profile with a touch of pepper spice that lingered on and on. We held this bottle for just over 10 years and it was certainly worth the wait.

Pw/1 hr glass time. Clear, deep dark purple. Wonderful, powerful nose. This needed a lot a air time before it opened up. Initially super tight and rugged. With time, it softened a bit and drank beautifully. Dark fruit, very intense flavor, prominent tannin's but not overly so. Dusty, dry, rich, full bodied with long finish. At the front end of it's drinking window and can stand another 5 years of cellaring. Nothing off. $50

As I recall, this was a Wine Spectator (Speculator?) wine of the year a while back. I was told an entire case was allocated to Alabama and I got one bottle. Drank it the other day. It was good but certainly not a wine epiphany experience. Just a solid Bordeaux-like wine with good Cali fruit.

Notes similar to last (in 2016). This is in a great drinking window right now. Complex, well integrated, with a lingering finish. Drank this one back-to-back with a 2012 Charles Woodson Cab, and the Cinq Cepages blew the Cab away.

I was disappointed in this bottle. Seemed flabby and old lacking any sort of structure. Would have rated lower, but it picked up some weight late into the evening. Could be this bottle as I've had others, which were great.

Dark fruited, juicy and intensely flavorful, this is consistently a great wine year in and year out. Full bodied, complex, and very Bordeaux like in its structure, this needed about 3 hours to loosen its tannic backbone. There's lovely purity, density, and energy to the blackberry, cherry, cassis, toasty oak, and minty eucalpytus aromas and flavors. Long and youthful on the finish.

Muted nose on opening, but it quickly opens up to reveal a classic Bordeaux blend with just the right amount of new world finesse. Fine grain tannins and round, lush dark plums, blackberries, and chocolate-covered coffee beans. My tasting partner also insisted it was aged in Hungarian oak if that means something to your tongue (although the winemaker's notes say French and American oak). It is drinking well now, but I'll hold my other bottle for awhile.

Starting to come into its peak window, but need to hold. Deep, huge, dark, with a smokey, cassis, ripe plum nose. Strong berry and plum mouth, nice balance - medium tannins, smoke & tobacco with some earth on the finish. Not as big as the 2008 but a heck of a wine.

This is currently my favorite in their reserve line, the newer cinqs I suspect need some more time, but this one is quite drinkable now and for a few years to come for sure. Decanting is a good idea to let it open up, definitely a first wine to open with a few special guests coming over perhaps after that bottle of bubbles if one is so inclined. With food will compliment a some what lighter meal, say a pork roast or duck. All said St. Jean has consistently delivered on all their cinqs, this year just stands out just a bit more The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle.

A 30 minute decant and the wine starts to open nicely. Same nose and mouth feel as my previous comments. This Cinq Cepage is beautiful right now and will hold for a year or two more easy.
The fruits are deep and the wood is very complimentary. The acids remain in balance and this wine is surprisingly outstanding alone or with food.

Rich nose of dark fruits and hints of cassis. Fairly integrated but has room to grow. Layers of dark cherry, blackberry, baking spices and vanilla. Medium to heavy body and edgy tannin to support it.

California Wine Fair - Toronto, ON (Fairmont Royal York): This is more in the typical Napa cab idiom. High density fruit and actually a touch jammy with abundant oak spice. Palate is plush, ripe, and high alcohol. finish comes across as a bit short. Too much here for me. Lacking balance for my palate.

Decanted 90 minutes and drank before, during and after dinner. Opaque purple/ruby. Full mouthfeel. Even after the decanting, it was overly fruity and sweet. After another hour in the glass, it was fruit-forward blueberry pie, with a hint of the raspberries. Only moderate finish. Was it just the vintage, or had the style gotten much more fruity between the wonderful '07s and these '09s? Whatever, too bad.

Tasted in double-blind fashion, this opaque crimson wine (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot) screams Alexander Valley fruit. Perfectly ripe, it flaunts aromas and flavors of black cherries, tree bark, dried cranberries, chocolate and coriander. Full-bodied and supple on the palate, it has a backbone of low-to-medium acidity and ample fine-grained tannins. The alcohol (listed as 14.4%) is seamless and the middle palate is solid. Long and silky on the finish, this is nothing short of hedonism! Enjoy it over the next decade. Drink now-2024.

Dark red color. Richly herbal and fruited nose: bay leaf, loam-y, tobacco leaf, cherry and currant, moderate oak (chocolate). On arrival, texture and flavors are very reminiscent of 1980's estate cabernet from Caymus: supple structure yet complete in scale of oak and fruit. Balanced and harmonious enough for early drinking, but suggests real aging potential. Lingering finish. One I'm going to watch. Bottle #1 of one, but something to add again to the cellar.

Strong cranberry on the nose and on the palate, accompanied by sour cherry. Medium finish, balanced in all other aspects. Went well with turkey on Christmas Day. Turkey had some truffle salt as well, which was perhaps the gustatory revelation of the day.

Oaky and hot, this pales in comparison to the 2008.

Lacking balance for my palate.

extracted ripe blackberry, oak, cassis, and oak; still primary and a bit too big to go with the meal; enough stuffing to improve with time. Hold.

Something wrong here. At least some cork taint heavily overshadows the lovely nose I'd expected, ruining the experience. Fruit in the mouth only hints at what might have been…

At office Christmas Party, we drank three bottles, opens to dark fruit, the palate, is dark fruit, tobacco, cedar and a little spice, a very enjoyable finish, much better than the 06 I had a few nights ago.

Very similar (almost identical) to the 2008 vintage. Closed upon opening. Notes of chocolate, coffee, with a nice touch of cherry and vanilla towards the end. Very enjoyable, but hopefully, this will open up with time.

Dark, sweet, ripe fruit. Good red blend and quite decent for Sonoma County. Score: B to B+ (87.4 Points).

New world dark Bordeaux blend with some decent tannin structure. I liked it better than the BV Tapestry Reserve from last night because there was more character/complexity.

Drank at winery. Nice wine holds promise to get better with a couple years in bottle. Probably not as good long term as the 08 but should be able to drink sooner.

Strong cranberry on the nose and on the palate, accompanied by sour cherry. Medium finish, balanced in all other aspects. Went well with turkey on Christmas Day. Turkey had some truffle salt as well, which was perhaps the gustatory revelation of the day.
