13.7% abv. Dark ruby, very expressive aromas. Ripe plum, mint, white pepper and menthol highlight a deep and fairly long palate impression. Well mannered, but vibrant. Tannins are pretty much resolved, but this wine has plenty of life remaining. Drinking great right now.

Drank alongside the Klein cab of the same year. Clearly of the same lineage, but a bit rounder, smoother, more subdued. Both still have some serious tannins.

Drinking wonderfully right now - beautiful fruit notes with a nice dryness that didn’t take away all the moisture in my mouth. Paired wonderfully with chicken. Decanted for an hour and got even better over the night. I wouldn’t hang onto these much longer but it didn’t seem to be losing anything quite yet.

Drank over 4 hours. Definitely opened up and improved greatly. Many layers of fruit and earthiness. Cork practically disintegrated and the wine had a lot of sediment. But excellent over all.

Consumed a bottle 6 months ago that was thin and disjointed. Drinkable but a poor value. Last nights bottle was entirely different, lovely depth of fruit some layers of tobacco and earth, enough tannin to give it some texture. Both bottles were purchased from the winery in December. Based on other notes here, I think the thin bottle was the outlier and that this is a good wine.

Served with grilled beef tenderloin, corn on the cob, and caprese salad. Crimson/ruby, with a come hither look to it. Good color to the rim. Lovely fruit on nose, dark cherry, raspberry, plum. Dry, acid/fruit/tannin in smooth balance. Good finish. Drinking nicely right now but will hold for some time.

The nose was layered with a mix of black raspberry, strawberry and blueberry skins, followed by mint leaf, stone dust and graphite. On the palate, silky textures ushered in mineral-laden blue and black fruits with sweet herbs and juicy acidity, in a savory and mouthwatering performance. The finish was long, with fine tannin still present, yet enough mineral-infused acidity to add liveliness and verve. Dark fruits lingered, as well as hints of lavender and mint.

Brilliant. Really great value wine. Cleansing and purifying. Especially around the holiday perhaps. It could be this wine is on a mission from god. Highly recommended.

With braised rump roast, roast vegtables, and pan biscuits. Nice ruby, almost sparkling, good color to the rim, no longer quite opaque. Welcoming nose, sweet berries. Medium body, cassis, black raspberry, mellow tannins, a touch of earth. Drinking well - nicely integrated.

This is a nice merlot that has lots of upside. Currently there is some oak dominating the nose a bit much, but underneath there are some classic merlot notes of crushed plum, floral perfume, and other red fruits. The palate is silky and elegant with integrated tannins and a great overall energy and balance. I think once this integrates the oak a little more it will be outstanding. I'd wait another 3-4 years to try.

Ridge Vineyards Post Harvest Celebration Tasting: Violet color with aromatic beautiful black and fruits, violet, and spice aromas. On the palate, it's light-bodied, fresh, complex, and balanced with smooth tannins and blackberry, raspberry, cassis and mineral flavors. Long finish.

Amazing how much this has changed in six weeks. Nose is much the same but on the palate the tannins have taken over and closed the wine down firmly. Just a hint of light cherry fruit peeps through the tannic bombardment, with considerable acidity to boot. Time to put this baby to bed for a while.

Deep violet. Characteristic earthy merlot nose with some dark fruits lurking underneath. Starts with a hit of black fruits and then develops a sharp spicy note in the mid-palate. Finishes with earth and soil. Fairly soft tannins. Ready to drink but should develop a bit more in the near term.

The nose showed rich raspberry with a hint of vanilla, mint, green stems and slate dust. It was smooth at first, with a savory presence on the palate, showing saline minerals with blue fruit and black licorice yet with time it closed in on itself as tannins mounted through the finish with hints dried blueberry. This wine was beautiful but needs more time in the cellar.

Mensa mensa. A bit light and fruit not integrated. Probably needs to sit a few more years.
