Still having very fine bubbles. Pale amber color. Distinctively and beautifully oxidative in style. Caramel, walnuts, almond, beeswax, apricots, orange peels, chalk, loads of lees and biscuits that is all underpinned by electrical acidity, savoury salinity. While being expansive on palate with rippling flavours, the long acid line provides a solid backbone for the precise and long finish.

A 2016 disgorgement, this Champagne had a hint of truffle development, but was essentially fresh and vital. It had a wonderful core of tangerine and peach fruit. Bubbles were gentle and calm. It had so much chalky mineral action and was supremely long and complex.

Nose: jackfruit, honey, coconut, bit of meat, banana, sugar cane, nutty Notes: signature oxidative nose as usual. Although the part of the label with the disgorgement date has been torn and was not present but it would be my guess that this has been a recently disgorged one. The oxidative nose makes a very interesting and intriguing contrast with the energetic bubbles present in the bottle. This particular bottle will require a couple more years to be integrated as I feel there should be plenty of potential and development ahead of it. Give it 2-3 more years. Drink: 2026+ Rating: 91

(Disgorged October 28th 2021, base year 2015 with reserves from 2014 and 2013, 100% Chardonnay from Avize, Cramant and Oger, dosage 0 gr/l) Incipient maturity on the nose showing green apples, chalk and minerals and opens up with hazelnuts and milk chocolate in a delicious way. Butter and toffee on the palate with a pleasant lime citrus acidity and a gentle touch of dried fruit on the generous palate with a lovely and lengthy finish. (Best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

Grand Jury du Vin - Republic of Georgia; 11/1/2023-11/9/2023 (Republic of Georgia then stopover in Paris and Dijon): 2014 Disgorgement. Beautiful brilliant yellow color. Expressive nose displaying decadent yellow fruit with a hint of red, apricot preserve, peach, red currant, honey, burnt sugar, cinnamon, brioche, smoke, and limestone. Fully integrated palate, decadent sweet yellow fruit, very fine subtle but fine mousse, rich, sweet, and deeply toned but also beautifully balanced, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a long decadent yellow fruit driven finish with honey and cinnamon at the end. Although fully mature, not showing the oxidative note that I get in Substance.

40th anniversary tasting (L'Esprit du Vin - Axelborg): My notes from this fantastic gigantic tasting are in general extremely short (because of the many wines) but with ratings. We spent a whole day tasting and tasting quality wines. This wine: Disgorged 2022. Deep gold color. Very oxidative style as (almost) always from Selosse. Nutty notes. You never quite know with Selosse but this time it was outstanding though Cuvee Blanc de Blancs Substance was even better, I rated that 95.

Judgement of Eagan (Jason P's, St. Paul, MN): Medium dark gold color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. Disgorged 4/23/09. Barely any bubbles, highly oxidative, smokey, baked apricot, candied orange peel, creamy, baking spices, spicy. This was lighter than the Substance (10/28/10), but I think in the end, I prefered the complexity of the Substance a bit more, though they were close for me. Thanks to Jason again for opening this pair!

Cracking the whip; 10/16/2023-10/23/2023 (Eagan, MN): N: A notch lighter in the fruits department with fresh pears and melons, very similar to the Substance had alongside this. Spritzy minerals and fresh airiness.
P: Flavors of the V.O. are also very similar to substance but just a bit more lighter on the palate, and a bit less intense while keeping a deep yellow and green pear note. The salinity on the stones seem to be a bit more pronounced while somehow being lighter. Nice ethereal profile to this.
I have a hunch that having this next to the Substance might’ve had an effect on this. To me, everything about the V.O. seemed to be just a notch lighter. Even so, this was still a pleasure to taste.

Judgement of Eagan Wine Tasting (Jason's House): This was drank along side a Substance. While it from the same mold as Substance, i.e., reductive and oxidative, this retained some of the freshness of a younger Champagne, but also lost some of the complexities of Substance. It was fun to see which one people preferred, and the crowd was divided! I was clearly in the Substance camp, but I could understand why others would prefer this more traditional style (not really traditional, but more so than Substance).
The nuts and bolts on this Champagne: Had the fine bubbles, but a little more visible than the Substance, and not as deep of a golden color. Not sure of the disgorgement date on this wine, but would guess more recent than Substance. For me, the freshness came across more in this wine, but it slightly lacked in the finish, which wasn't as long as as Substance. This wine had some brioche notes, some citrus, saline and some stone fruit, but not as much Unami and lacked the ginger and honeycomb notes. As previously stated, the finish was medium (compared to the long finish of Substance). A very pleasant wine that would have undoubtably shown even better if not drank along side the Substance. Solid 95 for my palate, and a pleasure to drink!

Judgement of Eagan (Jason's house): Very different from the Substance that we tried alongside it. The oxidative note remains, but this had fresh dough, baking spice and a slightly more traditional champagne profile. 92-93.

What's good about Selosse is that even when you know the universe, you're always surprised.
Very particular peaty nose, sensation of smelling whiskey, then orange peels.
The palate has an oxidative profile, but the peaty character comes through very strongly, as if the wine had been aged in whiskey barrels. Then, the juice, intense and creamy in texture, unfurls a whole complex array, sometimes pastry cream, sometimes candied fruit. It’s racy with a natural presence. The finish coats everything in its path with delicious chalky notes over a beautiful vibrant length.
Excellent champagne!

Crisp full lemon, coconut shell, the oak still quite to the fore, some fleshy density, not obviosuly low dosage but keen, I suspect this is hiding its stuffing still.

Very dry, too dry for my taste. A little oxidised note, but I gues that is the style. Have had both Initial and now VO within a couple of months and I must say that I don’t really understand the greatness of Selosse, but I guess that is fortunate given the price tag these days.

40th Birthday celebration for I (Sushi Yuki): Pnp. Disgorged May 2016. Golden orange with pink tint. Drinking beautifully now, hard to guess it was BdB with the colour and structure. Rounded aroma, red apple, strawberry, precise on the palate round and elegant. Acid mostly resolved and integrating very well. Superbly balanced.

Intensity medium. Deep golden. Yellow flowers, bruised yellow apple, orange peel, dried orange, pure honey, brioche, beewax, almond. Acidity medium. Long finish. Quite delicate and elegant, easily overshadowed by food. The finish resembled somewhat the specifics that decades old Rieslings can also have. (Domaine Jacques Selosse, Avize)

Miscellaneous Wines from Beaune and Chablis; 11/6/2022-11/10/2022: At Le Maufoux, Chablis. Curiously, no disgorgement date was stamped on the back, but the wine staff said it was the latest release-who knows. As always with Selosse, dynamic and evanescent. Right out of the bottle, a strong mushroom scent which dissipated to reveal ginger and bitter citrus. Full, creamy, dry, and drenched with soil. We returned to it in the evening 8 hours later and some faint oxidative notes had returned, but we were even more impressed with both its stoniness and full throated “Chardonnay-ness”. Superb wine-I wish I could tell you exactly what it was!

Mouth with controlled oxidative characteristics, it is elegant, chalky and vinous at the same time, very particular as always with Selosse. Great complexity with the structure of the wine which is revealed after the vinous touch where the meringue and the candied fruits are revealed. Great chalky finish with a saline length.
the nose was sooooo beautiful! This was toasty, mature, with marmalade. Very perfumed, too. The problem here was that the front label says this is a V.O. but the back label is for Contraste. So which wine did we drink?!
A blend of Grand Crus, with fruit taken from the upper slopes. This was 2012, 2013 and 2014 base. It had complex aromatics of baked apple, honeysuckle, dried flowers and chalk. There’s awesome power and build on the palate and the finish is squint inducing with of its citrus and mineral action.

Another 2017 DG. Compared to the rose, it did not have the same viscosity/weight on the palate. More fresh with the orchard and stone fruits. Still the Selosse oxidative nuts, but again the lovely acidity throughout.

Q2 2022 Wine Club: Grower Champagne (The Apt): Wine #1: I had the benefit of knowing there was a Selosse somewhere in the line-up and with that knowledge this was my guess for where it had ended up. It's a bit of that standard oxidation. Bright and great acid and nice bubbles and just always a bit more interesting. Different style of wine than some of the others. Always tasty. I suspect I might have liked it with more age (this was disgorged in 2018) but beggars can't be choosers and there's not so much Selosse around these days. (12 pennies)

Disgorged in 2018. Slightly oxydative as always with Selosse Champagnes, nice texture, rich, complex, aromas of nuts, orange peel, brioche, butter, very focused and balanced. Not as complex as say Substance or any parcellaire but a truly delicious Champagne in its own right. Never fails to please even the most discerning and demanding palates. 6 bottles opened from the same case (after laying down for 3 years in my cellar), all showed a consistent and very good level.

July 2018 disgorgement. apple and other orchard fruit complexity, with some biscuit and cinnamon. Rich, layered and vinous. So much underlying salinity and chalk. Wonderful power and drive but balanced and light on its feet. The salt comes back on the finish and it is super long.

Aged Selosse V.O. hits different. Tasted this 2010 disgorgement in blind along with a Dom Perignon 2012, immediately jumped to Selosse Le Bout de Clos. Delicious and complex. Gorgeous honied tropical fruits, sweet oak spices and sherry-like oxidative character that a champagne would develop after 20 years. Full bodied and powerful. In my opinion, an aged V.O. resemble Substance. (92/100)

A private lunch (La Table de Bruno Verjus **, Paris, France): Version Originale. Made with 100% Chardonnay from Avize, Cramant and Oger. Disgorged 26 October 2018, base vintage 2013 with 2012 and 2011. Annual production 300 cases. So wonderful with its four years post disgorgement ageing. It’s hard to put its beauty into words - everything is in the right place and in perfect harmony. A delightful expression of the minerality of its soils without even the slightest austerity, vinous with warmth from the wood without even a trace of oxidation, salty but playful finish with a hint of candied apple, impeccable resonance and length.

Consumed at Restaurant Les Avisés in Avize. Degorgement April 8th 2021. A superb and legitimately considered unique champagne. Full golden, but lively colour. On the nose a heady cocktail of dried exotic fruits (apricot), french oak spice and sweet caramel. In the mouth the wine manages to be richly textured with big legs in the glas and also very lively due to great acidity and a well mannered perlage. Chalky minerality and some mushrooms on the finish. Despite being extra brut it is neither strict or austere, just perfectly balanced. The most important thing for me: While this is a different kind of champagne it is also a most enjoyable one.

Nydelig nese.

Charleston VI; 11/3/2021-11/7/2021 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Disgorged in 2013 so assumption is wines from 06-08. This is a wine that normally needs air (a decant) and we didn't do that although I did keep leaving it in my glass hoping it would open more. A hint of the oxidized style and a bit darker in the glass than its age would suggest. It reminded me a lot of rocks and not the funky Rhone style but really just regular every day rock. A bit tart. I'm not sure it ever quite got to the level that I would expect but it was a good wine so perhaps just too high expectations.

Duell med NV Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Les Crayères (Deg July 2017 2010/2009 (50/50))
Deg May 2017 2010/2009/2008 Sopade banan med Egly under hela fredagkvällen.

Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux): Served blind and you'd think that this would be easy because he has such a very distinguished style and yet not at all. I think maybe because he has such a different style it was a bit harder. I was in the world of Pinot because there was some spice and herbal to it. But that is really just his oxidation causing the different flavors. It's an interesting wine and constantly evolving. Poured a very dark yellow in the decanter and a lot lighter in the glass. Lovely to drink.

This 2010 disgorgement V.O. is more mature than the 2010 disgorgement Initial, a slight step up in concentration but lacks the incredible vibrancy that the 10 Initial still has. 4/19 Disg- Rich, intense and with riveting energy. So distinctive Selosse, and VO to me, is a huge step up from Initial. It’s ultra complex and layered with flavors of candied citrus, rum barrels, caramel and salted nuts. There is massive structure with a simultaneous purity and weightlessness. Superb length. Decanted and served in Zalto Bordeaux. Fantastic.

2008 base. Given a bit of air, this quickly opened up and was dense and expressive. Relatively little prominent oxidative character, the fruit was pretty rich across citrus, green apple and a slightly orange element; light bread, hints of pastry and nuts were underpinned by something stony and cool, almost slightly wintery. Felt like a big step up vs the Initial ****1/2+
Selosse VO Gogget oktober 2010. Drinking very nicely. I'm not sure that it's totally rocking it's full Selosse style (where I tend to agree there is some bottle variation), but it's very tasty and enjoyable to drink. Paired with caviar so it was definitely a decadent afternoon with some good friend whom we hadn't really seen since March. Nice to have an afternoon that felt semi-normal in a time that really isn't.

My first Selosse, excited as this is the grandfather of the revolution. I like this wine, in a geeky way, but there were others that I preferred. I'm thankful for the chance to taste it.
Aperitifs at Domaine Jacques Selosse (Avize): Very similar to the Initial, and likewise this version is a blend of 13/12/11, but the V.O. is sourced from lower-yielding higher-altitude vines and, in this iteration, is zero-dosage. Additional richness is obvious, but the fact there's less dosage is not - testament to the quality of the fruit. The oxidation again feels well-balanced by zing and grip.

Palate: extra brut, high acidity, medium- body, creamy texture, fine perlage. Not sure if it does through malo (heard it doesn’t), but I noted some butter, in addition to honey apple crumble, vanilla etc. Enjoyed with a tasting menu at Le Parc Les Crayeres in Reims.

Hsien Min's Birthday Dinner (Nouri): Probably the last impressive bottle of Selosse VO I have had over the years, but this was still nevertheless a lovely champagne. It had a nice nose of yeast, a bit of biscuits, ripe red apples and just a little kiss of mineral and spice. Really attractive stuff. The palate had a nice snappy liveliness to it, with a lemony spine running through more rich Apple flavours, slightly browning this time, and than a bit of kumquat peel and just a kiss of spice leading into a detailed, minerally finish. This lacked some of the sheer awesomeness of depth, power and balance I have always found in previous bottles, but take nothing away from it - it was still a great drop, and a very nice start to the evening.

The nose shows a hint of oak spice, lots of browned apples, some nuttiness, and seems to imply something that will have a bit of a saline character on the palate. And it does! These older disgorgements can be hit or miss for me sometimes (believe it or not, they can get too oxidative), but this bottle did not. Like many of the older Selosse wines I've had, this seemed to pick up steam with air -- showing a little brighter, and the fruit less browned. Nonetheless, quite a bit of oak and browned fruit here, but wrapped up with plenty of acidity and overall concentration and a nice dose of chalk as well.

Disgorged in 2014. This bottle was fresher than I expected (ie. not as oxidative as I was expecting), honey almond, chalky minerals, raspberries on the nose, on the palate, brown sugar apples, minerals, wild raspberries and roasted nuts. This has been my go to wine for selosss as I think VO is a clear step-up from initials in terms of complexity

The nose has plenty of green apple, preserved lemon, smoky minerals and a drizzle of honey. It has great presence in the mouth, with an intense line of citrus fruit and mineral and plenty of floral spice nuance. It really opens up and builds in the glass and has fabulous persistence.

MASTER CHAMPAGNE; 1/28/2019-4/30/2019 (WESTIN PALACE MILANO): Degustato alla cieca. Annate 2009-08-07 1g/l (deg. L' ho trovato poco a fuoco e pesante. Non vale quello che costa

Comprehensive Selosse (Chicago, IL): Disgorged April 2018. An obvious step up from the Initial, with a slightly more oxidative quality. There's some clear brown apple elements here. Something about the palate here feels kind of brown as well, but there's also this rich, chalky texture and a fair amount of acid as well. There's some bitter citrus components here that are actually quite pleasant -- I think this might be a candidate for the wine that comes the closest to sherry, as there is also a slight salinity here.

Disgorged in 2014. Quite a few years since I have had a bottle from this batch. Wild, funky, and complex in a way only Selosse could do. A forward note of apple cider, that you will either love or hate. Enjoyed it a lot, but not a mainstream, everyday type of wine.

dégorgé le 15 Octobre 2009 - lemon, a bit of toast, with a hint of straw on the nose. Very mild and smooth on the palate, slightly bitter in the middle with a long finish. Much softer due to the fact that it was disgorged nearly 10 years ago. Very elegant.

Three vintages 2010, 2009, 2008 pure bliss from Avize, Oger and Cramant. This is my favourite ( non solera) from Selosse so much better than Initial . (deg 03/05/2017)

Disgorged in May 2017. Nose had brioche, apple, white flowers, minerals and minerals. Initially very restrained until the bottle was decanted. Very precise and sharp with hint of selosse’s oxidative style. Nice.

ah Selosse we drank this VO beside the 2007 Substance. Big contrast in styles. Both incredible wines. Slight edge to the Substance oxidative while still maintaining freshness. Thanks Ross.

July 2014 disgorgrment. Took a good 30 mins to open up with explosive ripe yellow fruit, minerals and and nuts. Powerful on the palate with good underlying substance. Always fun to drink a vo.

Disgorged 22 November 2016. This was big, rich and just hard to handle when opened, but the last half of the bottle on day 2 acquitted itself nicely. Leads with those distinctively Selosse oceanic notes (which always remind me of biological sherries), followed by candied lemon and toast. Palate follows the nose with big, deep intensity and brilliant acidity, just wonderful. I picked this up in Pontevedra, not 100% sure but I think it was Juncal Alimentación.

This was the third wine as part of the Champagne flight for the Charleston off-line. Served with low country shrimp boil with white shrimp, artisanal sausage and corn on the cob - wonderful pairing with some great aged champagnes.
Another nice sparkler with rich flavors or apple, brioche and almonds. Slightly oxidative. This is in a good spot for its drinking window with good bubbles and flavor profile.

Charleston Offlineorama IV; 9/27/2018-10/1/2018 (Charleston, NC (various locations)): 3rd/6 champagnes tasted. Disgorged Jan-2015. Had this a month ago and it was amazing - tonight was just okay for me - not quite the fireworks of the other bottle. Minerals, acidity and that oxidative Selosse quality but all in a slightly tamped down version from the previous bottle. Let's hope the rest of the six pack tastes more like the 1st bottle:-) Will let the remaining ones age for a few more years before pulling.

Charleston IV - Return of the Collectible; 9/27/2018-9/30/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Wow - three times with this wine in slightly more than a month. How lucky are we? The first bottle was the strongest showing, but this was still delicious and maybe my favorite of all of the champagnes in terms of being right in the drinking window. Has that oxidized side to it, but here I thought the vanilla and caramel were showing through more. Similar flavor profile to the DP, but bubbles still intact and showing well.

Off the wine list at Nice Matin after a few other champagnes were not available. This was not quite as amazing as the one we had last month, but still a really nice champagne. Almost sherry-like in style. Not just a touch oxidized - this was full out there. Some softening in the glass, but not the full change that I sometimes see with this wine. It's still quite lovely and very interesting. If rating again prob a point or two below the last time.

Syrah from Afar with a Champagne Flight to start (Long Island, NY): Disgorged Jan-2015. First time with the V.O. and wow this is really special. Definitely in the more oxidative Selosee style but lots of minerals and acidity - a lot of complexity here. A real standout in today's line up and I look forward to revisiting this in the future. One thing to note - I think it really pays off to give any of the Selosse NVs (Initial, VO, Rose) some bottle age after disgorgement date - whenever I have had one with an older disgorgement - the additional time has really added complexity to the wine.

An Afternoon in LI w/Friends (Champagne Reception, Syrah from Afar) (Long Island): Disgorged in 2015 (unfortunately didn't record the exact date). Wow was this something. The champagne of the mini-tasting. This was just so very interesting. A bit oxidative, lots and lots of spices. This wonderful precision to it. The flavor profile is very different from the typical champagne styles I've seen. Really wonderful. Maybe as it opens a hint of toast. I went back to this one a few times.

2012 disgorgement. Great nose here that is heavily toasted, mildly oxidative, and has terrific cinnamon spice. Bready, think cinnamon toast crunch. Always intriguing, fresh, and playful. Unfortunately this was served a touch warm and in flutes as opposed to real glasses, but still very pleased. Rich, warm, and round palate.

Spring Swing Through France-Random Wines Tasted or Imbibed; 4/14/2018-4/25/2018 (Burgundy, Alsace, Paris): Disgorged October, 2017. Yellow with brown tinge. Oxidative notes, hay, and wheat. Medium body, creamy feel. Dry, bitter citrus, tingling stony finish. More spice and ginger as it warms and opens. While I’d prefer a scooch less of the caramel, in true Selosse fashion, it is dynamic, freshens as it goes, and in the end is superb.

Nose is toasty with honey cereal grains, rich and nicely developed. Gold and open. The fruit is ripe pear and cantaloupe. Nice minerals cut the otherwise very toasty flavours. Flicker of saline in the finish, but not offputting.

Rich and intense champagne. Almost amber color. Nose is razor sharp. With tight citrus, granny apple notes. Palate is very rich and intense here with the known oxidized elements showing. Initially the wine starts very razor sharp, piercing in ways, with air more citrus, lemon curd, bread/yeast and wood start to emerge. Secondary notes of vanilla and sherry elements. Relatively long and rich finish. Arguably young and needs to be tamed. I am not feeling the price quality ratio here. Will try other cuvees when possible.

Gogget 5/11/2012. Modne gule epler, kritt, autolyse, lett toastet treverk, lim, kaffe, lys honning. 92p.

Had this champagne in 2014 and scored it 93 pts, but this time I liked it even more. Quite a lot of winterapples and with a vineous character. Some depth as well. This is the way I like my champagne. Probably same disgorgement date as last bottle.

Disgorged December, 2013. Dull yellow. A whiff of sherry to start but freshened quickly to more lemon tones. The oxidation was never as noticeable on the palate. Lively citrus, great acidity, and completely dry, although initial austerity miraculously turned to a sense of natural ripeness. As always, a living, dynamic Champagne that challenged the senses and expanded over time.

Belle longueur.

Disgorged 6 October 2011. Complex, long, full bodied, excellent! Drinking very well right now, but still has quite a bit of freshness left (in the form of fragrant lemons or lemon curd). Will no doubt keep and gain more complexity on the expense of the freshness, but for me this is in an optimal stage at the moment.

Dinner with Edson (Maybeck): Disgorged 2014. Rich, oxidative nose, ripe Apple; medium mousse, elegant texture throughout, rich and slightly oxidative, bruised apple; medium-long finish. Lovely and classic Selosse. I still like the Initiale better, but this is a very nice wine. I think it just edged out the Ulysse Collin Pierrieres tonight, but for the price I might still prefer that. 93

This was 5 November 2011 Disgorgement Date. This is now well evolved, shows a nice mature feel to it, light oxidative (just a touch), rich profile and good depth. A very good and solid wine but much like a few of Selosse's wines we find that they tend to age faster and also best within 2-3 years post disgorgement when they are very fresh and vibrant. Still very solid. 92

Nyårsmiddag hos A+N (A+N, Duvbo): (Disgorged in April 2012, approximately 3-4 years of extra cellaring) Yellow colour with very fine and tiny bubbles. Nose shows incipient maturity with dried fruits, minerals and a slight oxidative note. Palate is still very fresh with acidity and a distinct fruitiness and a very long finish showing lots of oak and tannins. This cuvée and disgorgement was drinking very well already, but also showing lots of potential left. (But there was some bottle variation between tonight's two bottles...) Best 2017-2027. 93p.

Disgorgement date said 2020 so I'm assuming a typo and it was 2010 as more likely than 2002. Fairly dark gold, still good acid and minerality to go with the usual selosse autolytics. Everything you want and look for in a Selosse.

A beautiful, blonde, tempting elixir. Be careful not to enjoy too cold as it masks mischievous aromas of almond and sourdough. A pleasing bounce of acidity rounds things out for what I found to be a stunning, delicious glass of 18k gold.

Dinner with Joel (State Bird Provisions): Disgorged December 17 2012. Highly aromatic nose with complex yeast and brioche, minerality, lime; palate is completely dry, very complex minerality; long finish. This is a champagne that is very clean, bright, and complex. 92
Epic Champagne dinner (Taberna, Bukit Merah): Wow. This was the best bottle in a flight that comprised 3 bottles of Substance and 3 bottles of VO, all from different disgorgment dates. I am just putting down my notes of my favourite bottle each (of the Substance and the VO). It had such a lovely nose, with stone fruit and chalk aromas wed to oxidative shades of white meat, smoked herbs, and exotic wood spices, like cardammon and cloves. A very bright, attractive bouquet. The palate was at a very nice place, with a nicely rounded, but still very fresh expression of lemons and limes dancing over a deeper base of stone fruit flavous. There was a superb sense of intensity, and plenty of power here, but as with the best of the Selosse wines in the flight, it was the clarity and transperancy of the wine that stood out. This was just beautiful deep, round and matured, yet weightless and transparent. A wonderfully satsifying drink.
Disgorged 2014. Still very young with acidic tartness. Excellent stoney minerality, bright zesty stone fruit, creamy melon, and plenty of floral notes. Texture is crisp and refreshing with bubbles that don't fade over time. Needs a few more years to really develope.
Dinner with Erik: Newly disgorged so this was still very young and had a lot of acidity. Currently it lacks a bit of the oxidative notes but it is there and will be accentuated with age. Great wine!

Disgorged August, 2014. Full yellow, gentle bead. Subtle scents of herbs, ginger, and faint brioche. Oooh, that's dry. Creamy density that can only come from old vine Chardonnay. For a brief moment in the mouth, you think you are drinking a Côte de Beaune Grand Cru, but then the mid-palate and finish are an attention-getting mix of fierce acidity and jagged stoniness. While this may sound a bit rough, somehow it does not come across as either too austere or tart, which I think is a result of the great material that offsets all of this skeletal structure. This bottle definitely made me sit up and take notice!

Ten Days in Burgundy, Champagne, and Paris; 6/24/2016-7/6/2016: Lovely nose of ripe apricot, honey, and quite bready. Caramel and coffee tones too. Persistent and consistent effervescence. degorgement October 2009. My first Selosse champagne and what an intro. Half way between a great champagne and a wonderful rich Bourgogne. Amber yellow in the baloon, fine bubbles, honey, caramel, smoke, oxidative notes, whiskey... Rich and complex, aromatic (seemed a blanc des noirs to me, unbelievable) and mineral. These champagne from Selosse reach their best after 7 to 10 years from degorgement. This is a true drinking experience, worth its price. In a summer evening at Chiavari, celebrating June 30th

Disgorged in January 2015. Lovely Champagne, dry and vibrant with its usual "Selosse" oxydative style. Nuts, bread, butter. Very fine bubbles, good length. A perfect introduction to Selosse wines, way more interesting to my palate than the Initiale. Kudos to Anselme Selosse for achieving such a complex and balanced wine in an entrey-level range.
Dec 2014 disgorgement Nose - stewed apricot per Erica, cognac, whisky, lovely aged nose Mouth - round and aged in flavor, this comes across sophisticated, mature, and slightly on the oxidative end of the spectrum. Nutty on the finish. tasted next to a Krug grand cuvee (base 2007) which gave off more caramel and less complexity. I suspect the Selosse has a greater portion of older reserve wine in it
A Range of Jacques Selosse Champagnes with Anselme Selosse (Avize, France): Second time tasted in 2 days, this the newest release disgorged in November, 2015. Again, fruit from 07/08/09. More frothy than the Initial. More floral and lemony, and my god, I swear you can smell the rocks. Medium weight. Pure, dry, and crystalline. All stone, less clay, and even a bit of metallic notes on the finish. Steel yourself for the acidity and stone in this wine-wow.

Some Wines from a Swing Through France-Paris, Chablis, and Champagne; 4/1/2016-4/9/2016: Disgorged November, 2014. Light color, very lively fine bead. Fresh nose of ginger and lemon. Apr. 2013 deg. Nose is tell-tale Selosse showing the distinctive oxidized sherry notes, wet hay, some oak spices with vanilla, touch of rubber, fine white pears, chalk & smoked minerals. Palate is on the younger side still, with hints of vanilla, pears, some oak, bruised red apples, hay and lovely Selosse oxidized Sherry notes. A touch of pepper and bitterness on the finish. Opened up nicely and came along with more time in the glass, but would have shown better with more bottle age. 92 + points tonight. (92+ – 94+)

Degorged April 2013 On the nose: oxidative element, very Selosse liked and Burgundy liked. Red apples, integrated oak and vanilla, hint of sherry. On the palate: Yellow and Red mature apples, vanilla with a little tart finish during the first 20-30 minutes in the glas. Later on it went away and become a rather nice and round finish. Medium + finish 91-94

disgorged July 2010. On opening quite strong oxidative notes, with overripe apple and pear. Not the best showing really, but the wine opens up nicely and after 3 hours and served in burgundy glasses it starts to show its pedigree. Way better on day two, much fresher, deeper, tighter. I simply don't get how a wine can lose oxidation after opening and would expect the contrary... had a nice vintner gc champagne after this one on day two and it tasted like sparkling water, such was the intensity of this bottle

Unfair! We are kicking ourselves for not availing of more V.O. when we had the chance (perhaps not the budget). A blend of three vintages of Chardonnay, aged for 42 months in the bottle prior to disgorgment with a thimbleful of dosage. Any drier and we might think sandy...well, not really, but you know what we mean! We will re-visit our last bottle in another decade. Stunner!

Rich, nutty, toasty and malty; decanted and served in wine glasses, this VO was delicious... but you need to like this kind of funky wine. It ain't for the uninitiated. Our First Acker Auction (Marea in NYC): Disgorged Aug 4, 2014. This had tea-like characteristics and an herbal quality and some savory notes. Was not as smooth as the '90 LGD on initial pouring, but really came together in the glass. It was evolving through to the last sip with pine needles and maybe even a vanilla bean note towards the end. Very good champagne. Would love to see in 10 years.

Clayfu's birthday (part 2) (Monterey Park, CA): Disgorged October 9, 2006. While this has definitely seen a bit of its freshness fade, this bottle gives me hope that the Selosse wines don't fade with time. There's a nice fat peachiness to this wine, in addition to the expected nuttiness and saline qualities that are common to all of Selosse's bottles.
Yellow-gold color; straw-yeasty notes with light honey, chardonnay character with slight waxy aspect, walnut, sweet sweaty sock. Sounds disgusting but actually very nice, like a slightly funky Vin Jaune or Nicolas Jolly wine, and even reminiscent of a light sherry. Creamy in the mouth, bubbles dissipated a bit quickly, but very high acidity, chalky dry finish, almost tannic. Enjoyed this and how it evolved in the glass. 92+
BdB, very low doseage, I. and V.O. are blends of 3 vintages (Initiale=younger vintages and lower on the slope; V.O.=older vintages, higher on slope, more time on lees; Substance=solera from 1986); disgorged 2013, 3600 bottles. Grapes from Avize, Cramant, Oger.
I love the extra bit of dryness on the champagne. It gives it a biting acidity that I actually think goes against the natural oxidative style of Selosse. Full of bright apple fruit and minerality, focused but still plush with flavor. Really nice.
Yellow flowers, straw, hints of apple and faint oxidative notes on the nose. Acid cuts through much of the palate but there are clear dried flower and vanilla notes. April 2014 disgorgement. This bottle required at least a couple more years and could last a long time. This has the substance to age well and will likely appreciate by a couple of points with more bottle time. 92+
Gogget oktober 2014. Flott nese.

92-93 pts
Golden yellow, medium minus dark. Falen fruits and appels on nose. Ripe plums. Reductive and oxidised notes, but on the elegant side. On the palet its fruity and deep. Plums and apples. A bitter sweet aftertaste. Long. Medium minus dry. Very rounded and balanced. Cotton like feel in mouth, creamy, wonderfull!
Deg. march/april (?) 2014. Great concentration and power as always from Selosse. Some mature notes. Just kept on improving with time. A great bdb for sure, but think it deserves at least 3-4 years of cellar time.

Game dinner with friends (@ t Jachthuis): I just read some of the comments and I am happy to read that more people agree the traditional flute is not the proper glass to taste Champagne. The bottle we drank/tasted today was disgorged Sept. 8, 2013. The bouquet is beautiful and complex with minerals and some anise. On the palate very intense, a bit reductive, or even a bit oxidized in a beautiful way. Oloroso Sherry and rasped apple impressions, beautifully dry, anise again and tight acidity. This is a great and complex Champagne, but not one for beginners.
Disgorged August 2013. Certainly One of the best wines I've ever tasted, and this was only his entry cuvee! Simultaneously rich, generous, elegant, mineral. Huge flavor with just a hint of oxidized Chardonnay notes and such lightness of being and never-ending favors. I hate big bubbles in Champagne and here the bubbles were superfine and didn't get in the way of the wine's complexity, rather they gave it a magic carpet to rise up and float on. If I could only drink this for the rest of my life that would be just fine..
The only drawback is I can't afford to buy this every day so if there any community members who can recommend other champagnes at a lower price point which can at least come a little bit close to this style then I'm all ears.
6 Oct 2011 disgorgement. Just an overall beautiful champagne and at pretty much at 4.5 years post disgorgement bang on the money. Very vibrant, good ripe fruit, rich but in balance, nice yeasty profile. It has an elegance that we do seek in champagne and this has been by far the best experience we have had with the VO. Very good! 94 easy and this disgorgement is to be had now.
Disgorged 5 November 2011. Really complex nose with smoke, stones, tropical fruits and a bit of oaky vanilla. Quite a sweet nose, actually. Very dry and intense on the palate with lots of minerals and a bit of oak. Really long and robust. The colour is golden and the it is surprisingly mature on the nose and flavour profile as well, but it still feels pretty tight, focused and young on the palate. Will definitely improve, but I will probably not wait more than two years to drink my last bottle.

A brutally nice wine and totally Selosse without being too much... The nose reveals the classical, yet classy, baed apple, minerals, citrus zest, dark toast and that oxidised tone Selosse so skilfully turns into magic. The palate follows through in t he best possible way with perfect balance an integration. There is enough texture and structure for several years of further cellaring. Sometimes the Selosse style is a bit too much and perhaps a bit edgy. The VO almost always delivers a softer and "creamier" experience and this bottle is certainly no exception to that rule. A bit on the young side as it was disgorged 2013, this bottle provided immense pleasure tonight. Bravo!
Quite amazing showing! This bottle was purchased in Paris and brought into the US in my wine cruiser. Dégorgée 12.20.2012, and so only a couple of years following disgorgement. In a few words, my take here is that tasting this VO reinforced my earlier view that this is a cuvee that will benefit from bottle ageing. Freshness of a Blanc de Blancs and the depth of a blend from older vintages. As from Selosse's page: “Brut Initial and Version Originale show the influence of age and terroir. Each is a blend of three vintages of Chardonnay from the same three villages: Avize, Oger and Cramant. Yet, while Initial is a blend of harvests from the mid-2000s from lower slope vines, Originale is made from older vintages and from hillside vines”.

Disgorged Dec2013, light golden with med fine bubbles. Apple, toast bread, some floral nose and spice. Sharp acidity and grippy in mouth, would guess zero dosage. More intense aroma of floral element of white burgundy into finish. Would prefer some sweetness as the lack of it, one need to dwell deep to appreciate the elements here.

A big experience! Never tried anything from Selosse above his Initial, and the V.O. just cements my impressions that this is a producer well worth all the praise.
Served a bit cold, so initially slightly restrained with mainly apples and citrus fruit. Given some time and a higher temperature the wine really comes out and starts to shine. A plethora of wonderful aromas and a fantastic depth. Canned mushrooms, whipped cream, sponge cake, sour red berries, redcurrants and raspberries, lots of yeast, nuts and a little vanilla.
Big and full bodied on the palate with high intensity and a long consistent finish. High, young, tart acidity that are just perfect by the time I finish the last sip of the wine.
A great Champagne!
Degorgement date 20.04.2012.

July 2010 disgorgement, brought to the restaurant, beautiful, dry, but not lean. Had from aperitif (with a.o. oyster),over starters (including langoustine) and mains (veal cheek). Difficult to find one single wine that can pull this off, Selosse VO did. switched from flute glasses to normal white wine glasses and let the wine warm up during the meal. Beautiful experience.

HDH Auction; 12/13/2014-12/14/2014 (TRU): Really excellent; the palate is very concentrated with layers of lemons, sea salt and some oxidative, nutty tones; The finish just keeps going on and on; I fortunately tasted this after it had been open for several hours, as I understand it really evolved with some air

A little nervous at first given I brought this to the HDH auction...on opening a little volatile but given an hour it was all chalk, crushed seashells, nuts and bread. Amazing stuff.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 12/12/2014-12/13/2014 (Chicago, IL): Disgorged December 9, 2012. Evidence and provenance points to a recent release. Initially this was very, very volatile with lots of chemical aromas -- nail polish remover came to mind. With air, this stuff all blew off, showing the classic oxidative nutty aromas that are typical of Selosse wines. The nose strongly evokes crushed seashells, hazelnuts, bread. The palate is quite acidic and chalky as is typical. Intense and concentrated, this is significantly better when flat and warm -- decanting is a must! I saved the last half glass in the bottle for the next day, just to see what this would become. There are now intense oxidative saline and nutty tones -- yes, this is like sherry. The palate has that same saline and nutty quality, but still holds a sliver of citrus freshness. The chalky mineral characteristics seem to have taken a bit of a backseat. I'd be hard-pressed to say that this is better on the second day, but it certainly isn't less interesting than on the first.

Domaine Champagne tasting: Disgorged 24.07.2012. Flowery nose that opens up with time. Rich, multifaced palate of apple, honey, almond, jerez, citrus - all very elegant. There's also some cocoa and chocolate. Oxidative style and at times it seemed that alcohol bite can be felt on the palate. The very mature Initiale was better than this V.O.

Selosse by Roberto Petronio (Vila Viniteca - Madrid): Deeper than Initial but that extra of minerality shows in excess, without fine fruit even more, overripe fruit. Acid to the bone, plenty density on the palate but unbalanced. Disgorged April 14. Seven years in the cellar before to release.

Fete de Champagne Grand Tasting (Astor Center, NYC.): (Forgot to write down the disgorgement date, but this is a blend of 02, 03, and 04, just like the Inital. No dosage and one year longer in barrel than the Initial.) Really cut on the nose - lemon, flint, minerals, ox, cidery, deep, yellow-brown flavors, spice, pear. Huge grip on the palate: lemony, spice, minerals, very sharp and explosive. This is more focused and laser-like than the Inital, but not as complex. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5/20.

A totally stunning wine! Since this bottle was disgorged late 2013 it provides a youthful impression, but it is magnificent. Powerful, balanced and totally Selosse! The nose exhibits baked red apple as well as the typical oxidized tone. Full-bodied and abundant vivid minerals. This is a fantastic example of the Selosse style. The palate adds very nicely to the overall impression with balance, vivid mousse and a crisp elegant acidity as keywords. The length on the finish goes on a for a minute or more! (score is 95+)

Dinner with Aldo Vacca: Rauno's bottle was disgorged in 2008. A beautiful, sweet nose of citrus, green apples, honey and vanilla cream with some toast. Light bead. On palate, vinous, a great wine, I thought, more than a Champagne. A beautiful, oxidative style but light on its feet. Dense with a concentrated mid palate. Quite a complex flavour profile, with an incredibly long, honeyed finish.

Deep, mature golden yellow. Intriguing, complex nose of pronounced, bready toast, cream, dust, yellow apple, some honeyed oxidative character and a savory hint of fudge. Tight, taut and bone-dry taste profile with piercing acidity - yet there is a sense of richness underneath: honey, roasted nuts, tawny-esque syrup and burnt sugar, both bitter and saline minerality, some baked apple, spicy wood tones and a hint of ripe yellow fruits. Medium-bodied mouthfeel with soft, creamy mousse and tightly woven texture. Very long and cool finish with saline minerality and greenness reminiscent of cucumber, cream, some roasted nuts, hints of oxidized apple and slight waxy nuances in the complex, crisp aftertaste.
Extremely balanced, nuanced and structured Champagne with noticeable yet quite restrained oxidative and oaky characteristics. Youthful overall appearance with lots of potential for further cellaring. Expensive (~100€) yet not overpriced. Me likey, thoroughly recommended!

Disgorged 20/12/12. Gaining some colour and definitely, comparing with last time we had this, time in bottle post disgorgement helps. Good intensity, vibrant champagne, toasty side, rich core and full of character. Pretty solid once again. 93-94

An absolutely marvelous Champagne. This bottle was disgorged late 2013 and it is of course very youthful in its impression, but it is still a truly lovely wine. The nose exhibits the classical Selosse baked apple as well as a slightly oxidized tone. There is plenty of body and tons of vivid minerals. This is a fantastic example of the Selosse style. The palate adds very nicely to the overall impression with perfect balance, a vivid mousse and a razor sharp but nicely embedded acidity. The length on the finish just goes on an on... A true masterpiece. Compared to the basic "Initiale" cuvée the VO expresses more minerality, but also a deeper and profound fruit. Without the slightest doubt a grand vin. It will be super lovely given some time in the cellar! (score is 95+)

Riktigt gott hursomhelst! Deg 2010-11

A lovely wine, this V.O. disgorged in September 2009 shows wonderful tones of maturity with the classy tones of sun warm mature red apples, subtle tones of acacia honey, lime zest, abundant minerals and light toast. The nose is quite astonishing and to me represents this grower to marvelous extent. The palate follow through nicely with a rich creamy mousse, super balance and a perfect integration. But do not be mistaken, there is enough structure to please even the wine police. Selosse certainly does not produce wines for the faint hearted and the wines are perhaps not crowd pleasers - But for a Champagne lover they are a true gem!

(Degorged Ocotber 2013) Yellow colour with a stream of tiny bubbles. On the nose there's a youthful tone of apple sauce and oxidative tones opening up a smokiness, candles and honey. The palate is powerful with mashed apples, chocolate and a strong bitterness that lasts forever.

Wine Dinner at Collyer Catering In Westport, CT. (Collyer Catering): My first time trying this wine as well. Totally blew me away. Unbelievable Champagne! Aroma of toast, lemon, slate and mineral. Nose was really just awesome with a depth I have not seen in many Champagnes. The palate revealed flavors of toast, cream, and mineral that was just extremely complex and ended with a long finish. All I have to say is wow and one of the best, if not the best Champagne I have ever had. Liked this better than the Krug NV.

Richebourg and RSV dinner at Ripple (Ripple Restaurant in DC): A hint of smoke, perfume, almond paste, honey, tarte tatin, limestone and anise. Medium concentration, sweet fruit expression, mineral and good acidity. Quite harmonious and nicely balanced. My impression is that this is ready to go with a hint of matured yellow fruits. If you are a Selosse fan, your rating may be a bit higher than mine.

Disgorged July 2008. Not sure this wine needs note. It's simply a pleasure to drink with impressive depth. Definitely the most elegant among Selosse champagnes with a great tension in spite of the obvious weight. Hint of almond skin, superb saltiness that keeps you salivating. Not as oxidized as Initiale or Substance it displays a great freshness even with the slightest effervescence. Just give me more !

Degor. 05/2007 This V.O. was on fire today. Drunk with virgin lobsters and moules. Perfect balance and prob. the Champagne of the year for me so far. One of those wines where everything was in place - accidity, depth, structure, fruit, broad etc. Its hard to recall anything that impressed me more for a long time.

Disgorged 24 July 2012. Avize, Cramant and Oger from three successive years. Beautiful, softly aged, slightly oxidative nose of browned butter, white truffle, white flowers. Wonderful, dry palate, with narrow flavors that persist on the palate with nice richness. Some might find this a bit austere currently as the core is still fairly compressed. Another couple of years of post-disgorgement age should develop additional richness and generosity. A fabulous wine that I wish I had in my cellar.

France 2013 - Côte d'Or; 4/20/2013-4/23/2013 (Beaune): Disgorged July 11, 2011 – this was similar to a recent bottle of Initiale but had a touch more freshness, citrus and energy, with less toasty/oxidative notes. Loads of intensity here. Outstanding.

Disgorgement Oct 27, 2011. Pale yellow with a very fine, soft mousse. Slightly sweet nose with a little red apple and brioche. The VO is a contrast to the other Selosse wines as its more taught, less round and quite linear in a great way. Tons of mineral, some red and green apple, lots of acidity and a med+ finish. Definitely on the young side, would recommend giving it a few more years following disgorgement. Very enjoyable.

The Champagnes of Jacques Selosse (Roberson Wine, South Ken, London): Disgorged 20Apr2012. 100% Chardonnay, 12% Alc, <5g/l dosage. Light in colour, pale straw. Light toasty on the nose . On the palate though this is sharp, powerful hits you like a whip (add the sound effects here pls). The sharpest and focussed of Selosse wines. Lovely salinity, minerality. Less of a rounder style of champagne and more of the gout Anglais ie aperitif style. High Acidity Feels like its not yet integrated and could use some more time in bottle. Different style to the usual fatty, spicy signature of Selosse. 92-93

Hazelnuts, brioche, honey... very rich and toasty with plenty of malty character. More frizzante than fizzy, and extremely wine-like rather than Champagne - JUST AS IT SHOULD BE with the VO from Selosse. A vinous expericence, and MOST enjoyable. A tad intellectual, though.

Nose with mineral, ripe yellow fruit, yellow apples and winter apples, some spice, slightly oxidised notes, some mushroom. 95

Deg. 10.nov 2009. I'm afraid I will just repeat many of the superlatives already used but this wine deserves it. Absolutely wonderful champagne. I'm even tempted to bring about the term "seductive" ;-) Vanilla, toast, red apples, citrus, minerals. Incredible deep and concentrated fruit, silky creamy mousse, very rich and round for an extra brut, excellent lenght.

Lieux-Dits Champagnes from Jacquesson vs Selosse (Stockholm): Bright- to golden yellow colour. A nose with clearly minerally smoke notes with some dust of crushed stones, discrete hint of mature yellow fruit with some exotic fruit, peach and papaya can be found, some honey and a hint of dried fruit. Powerful nose with well integrated oak notes, that is very reminiscent of a white Burgundy from Côte de Beaune. Pronounced minerality on the palate, powerful, spicy, rather high acidity, slight impression of salinity and bitterness, aftertaste with grapefruit. Young, would gain from some cellaring. 92+ p.
Bottle disgorged 20 July 2011, probably with base wine from 2002, 2003 and 2004. A bit more accessible and enjoyable already than I'd expected from a V.O. at 9 months after disgorgement. This batch may very well warrant a higher score with some additional time in the cellar.

This bottle of Selosse VO was excellent. What a wonderful champagne. This bottle had wonderful freshness, minerality, spices, and clear fruit flavors. I almost got the sense that this is what a Blanc de Blanc version of a mature Krug Grand Cuvee would taste like. This had flavors of honey, caramel, ripe peaches, pear, pineapple, strawberries, red apples, nutty citrus, nutmeg, vanilla, light oak influence, flint, and wet rocks. It all adds up to an excellent bottle of blanc de blanc that is very powerful but fresh at the same time. This is worth the price of admission for sure. No need to cellar this any longer as it is already drinking so well. I am very glad I have another bottle.

Wow! Think I have a new favorite producer!! This and Salon are tops. An unbelievable mouthfeel and purity of fruit, somehow perfectly balanced with structure, minerality and good acid level. An everlasting finish. Goes down so easily and sings to me. Note that he is a biodynamic producer.
July 2008 disgorgement. Very complex palate that changed in the glass. The nose started rich with browned butter and caramelized onion notes but became more precise and mineral driven. Palate is a touch oxidized but with a great ripe fruit core - pears & red apples. Texture is wonderful and wonderfully balanced.

Some 2009 Burgundies.... (Artisan Cellar): Alcohol :: 12% Degorged at Aug 02, 2010. High tone aromas of honey, iron, nut and mineral wrapping up the green apple, mineral and herbs for the intense and focus aromatic profile. Superb intense on the palate with great detail and precision. I really like the balance that archive between the power, structured and richness. Everything is well in place, sumptuous mouthfeel formed by the juiciness and sweetness of fruits that supported firmly by the bright, firm acidic backbone that delivered excellent purity and depth. Long finish.

100 Year Old Champagne and Other Wonders (Kingyo, Marina Square): Super stuff. Not quite as polished and integrated as the 2006 disgorged bottle we had previously (this was disgorged in April 2009). but I thought this had a bit more complexity and power to it. Opened 2 hours before serving, it had a wonderful nose with all sorts of interesting aromas ranging from juniper berry and sweet spices, almost clove or nutmeg-like, touches of herb, slightly oxidative white meat notes and tons of fleshy pear fruit - an immense nose, big, complex, yet somehow understated and controlled at the same time. Fantastic stuff. The palate was simple gorgeous as well. After such a powerful nose, it was almost surprising that the first thing to strike me was its wonderful purity, with the attack just melting across the mouth in pure, fleshy flavours of apples and pears touched with a slightly lemony citrus lilt, all wonderfully integrated into a nice round whole. Full of power and depth, almost intense over the midpalate, yet so perfectly poised and balanced that the wine was noble, almost elegant as it strode across the palate wrapped in a fine, frothy mousee. The finish was great too - long, insistent, tremendously persistent, it layered the back-palate with layers of white meat, white fruit and gentle citrus notes. Fantastic stuff. As with many of these Selosse NV bottlings, it was drinking well even now, although I would think that a few years in bottle would do it plenty of good. A pitch perfect pairing with Aburi Sushi.

This bottle disgorged n July of 2008. gorgeous wine, showed as well as any bottle of Selosse that I've ever had. Rich, and seems more so at first because the wine is oxidative in style, but with air the wine comes together and finds a perfect balance. Prominent seawater on the nose, some ripe fruit that is classic Chardonnay in character, very mineral finish. The thing that first took me to the "this wine is amazing" territory, though, was the texture. So silky and refined, so graceful and alluring, so wonderful to feel in the mouth. In the end, the wine is seamless and I think, perfect. Oxidative is actually not my favorite style of Champagne, but this is an incredibly fine version, and a compelling wine.

09 disgorged, nice golden color, pretty oxidative baked apple nose, big and powerful and with v nice mineral backbone. Only thing strange abt this disgorgement is that the sweetness is more like a brut or demi sec and not like an extra brut that it is supposed to be, but the sheer depth is more impressive than the initial of a similar age.

Alex's Bachelor's Party (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): A truly excellent Champagne, yet I was sure glad I served this first, because the wines just seemed to get better and better through the night. This was disgorged in July 2006, and given the fact that Selosse ages the wine that goes into this cuvee for some 42 months in barrel, it had quite a bit of age on it. Yet for all that, it still needed all of two hours in an opened bottle and another 30 minutes in our glasses to really start showing. When it did, it had an incredible nose. Full of aromas reminiscent of golden apple flesh, along with lime peel scents, some umami tones, with flecks of white meat, dusty earth, stony mineral and a whiff of forest floor - woah, deep, enchanting stuff. The palate was a bit tight at first, even after the extended aeration. It had a super fine mousse, crisp, clean, precise and very minerally on entry, with super bright lemons dominating the fruit spectrum. With time though, it unfolded quite dramatically into fleshy golden apple flavours spreading across the midpalate beyond the citrus and mineral notes. Great weight and depth here, but somehow always guided by that laser-like precision that struck me at first sip. The wine then finished really very dry, with a linger of lime zest and apples on a layer of stone, but all with somewhat less length than I would expect at first. With even more time though, some dollops of cream, a touch of bread and some yeast shows up, filling up the gaps beautifully. I thought the wine was great even then, but with food, especially our fried oily beancurd skin appetiser, it zoomed up yet another notch, literally exploding across the mouth with fresh green apple fruit and flinty minerality - just tons and tons of energy that appeared to come from nowhere. This was a supreme example of Blanc des Blancs - an intellectual, even profound Champagne, yet one that was a real pleasure to drink. Opinion was later split on this, with some on the table preferring the weighter, more powerful, and every bit as superlative Jacques Selosse Substance that we had a couple of weeks ago in Burgundy, but a couple of others, me included, thought this wine was better given the sense of tension, focus, even elegance it had behind its strength. Like a Grand Cru Burg on skating on ice I thought. This is best served in a white wine glass rather than a flute of course. However, if you have a bottle with a later disgorgement date, I would suggest letting it sleep for a few more years - it is well worth the wait. I finised my last sips of the wine more than two hours after we first poured it into the glasses, and over warm though it was, it was drinking every bit as well, if not even better. Beautiful.

Outstanding. This bottle was disgorged 10 oct 2006, which has brought it to a, for me, perfect crossroad between energetic youth and complex age. The mousse still has that trademark Selosse explosiveness when the wine enters the mouth. It has developed aromas in the nutty and spicy spectrum, much more so than when young, but there is still a floral note too. Complexity is really out of this world. There is only one man who can create a sparkling wine like this, and its Anselme Selosse. Bottled art!

I am a fan so maybe I´m a point or two high. Disgorged May 2010. The essence of apple, the heart of apple. This is a super heavyweight champion - the force is awesome, the elegance is yet to appear. Will probably slim down to a heavy weight and add some elegance too but never a chance it would become a welterweight...Celebrated the fact that Modo Hockey won a very important game tonight!

Jacque Selosse V.O & 1986 Pichon Lalande (Les Amis - Shaw Centre): Alcohol :: 12% Degorged at April-2010. Medium golden. Expressive on the nose, with focus aromas of green apple, passion fruits with light oxidative in character and touch of yeastiness, still very tight. The palate is showing better though, superb fine bubble, like my guest said, MICRO bubbly. At first the bubble is persistent but lack a little bit of vigor, with time, the bubble just get more and more vigorous, but this never come across sharp nor too powerful as the bubble is so fine that gently glide through that caressing your palate with good freshness that moved on to the very smooth mouth feel with flavors of yeastiness, green apple, passion fruits, slight honey coated yellow fruits, mineral that culminated into long, persistence intense finish. Very elegance. Buy - Yes.

Disgorged April, 2009. Light and supremely elegant with a hint of citrus peel. Regal and dry without coming across as austere for a low dosage Champagne. Ah, Selosse. First time I've had a chance to try this cuvee.

Disgorgement date not noted. Yeastiest nose ever encountered. Persistent but not gripping middle. Rather austere and fruit-deficient at this point, with an almost punishing finish. Some found it enjoyable for present consumption, but to me it needs 5 years before rating.

Disgorged Oct 2009. Wow. This wines packs in quite a punch. Very expressive, rich, minerally, buttery, very nuanced and complex. Lightly oxidative note, citrousy fruits, blood orange, toast, green and red apples, white chocolate, some oak derived aromas and striking minerality. Mid length minerally finish. Perhaps i am nick-picking, but i do find the balance off a little. Still, there is no denying that this is a gorgeous champagne that I would not mind drinking any time.

Medium gold color, fine bubbles. A little tight at first, with a whiff of baking biscuit. Very rich and thick, with bright citrus fruit, and a long finish. I went back to this later when it was at room temp and it really popped at that point. I loved it!

Elegant and complexity yet heavy bodied being more vinous than airy. The medium high acidity is supporting the structure very nicely while not trying to define it. Fruity, chalk and oxidized notes. Lovely airy and elegant mousse. Full pleasure! Would be interesting to compare different disgorgements! Outstanding!

July 2008 disgorgement. Elegant, understated and complex, though showing a slightly oxidative character - full of ripe white fruits and green apples accented by chalk, yeasty notes and touches of butterscotch. The mouthfeel's very polished and slightly creamy, finishing long. Very enjoyable, though I'm really not sure if this is worth the price or the massive hype that accompanies Selosse.

Deg April 2006. Fina mineraler , betydligt mer komplexitet än i initiale. Hänger kvar länge i munnen.

Medium gold color; July 2008 disgorgement with French back label; Intense nose of orange rind and minerals with pear, spice and marzipan flavors. The flavor profile was of an older, vintage champagne but with balancing acidity. It seemed singular or maybe linear - the flavors seemed to come in waves. Completely different from most other champagnes and well worth the $$$ for the experience. A Champagne geek wine that I could drink every day. Selosse!

An outstanding bottle. The April 2009 dégorgement, consumed one year later. Small and refined mousse, pronounced citrus and with a hint of honeysuckle and litchee, and a wonderful long finish. Perhaps the best champagne I have tasted (so far...).

More barrel (balsam with a very faint note of mint) than autolytics on the nose. Rich and dense in 4 dimensions. Stunning fruit. Beautiful, elegant texture. Disgorged 10/28/08 and WAY better on Day 2, so I probably should have left it alone for awhile. But it was Christmas Eve...

Five Days in Paris; 11/17/2009-11/21/2009: Disgorged July 23, 2008. Very light yellow. Beautiful nose of orange rind, orchard fruits, and just a hint of yeastiness. Lively in the mouth with a perfect combination of cut and early creaminess. Moderate dosage. This was a tad sweeter and less wild than the Brut Initiale I tried earlier this year, but what an expression of Blanc de Blancs Champagne!

(100 euro in Beaune with Pigs Feet) Disgorged 28-6-2008 from 97-00 wine. Decanted at cellar temperature. Superb, THE anti-big house champagne from a true master. Slightly oxidative and intensely minerally on the nose with baked apple fruit. Intense, rich yet racy palate. Yum Yum Yum.

The French Laundry...21 Courses, 11 Wines, Infinite Memories; 7/21/2007-7/22/2007 (The French Laundry (Yountville, Napa Valley, California)): At the French Laundry in celebration of Amy Emery's 40th birthday, we were immediately welcomed and seated at a round table for six on the first floor of the restaurant. Ken and Amy selected a bottle of this wine from the restaurant wine list. The selection was aided by "Michael", our sommelier. Executive Sommelier Greg Castells also visited our table and provided additional information about this small-production Champagne which is made in solera-style. The wine was served with gourges with gruyere cheese and carried on into the ensuing courses of salmon cornets and chilled cucumber soup. Medium-yellow and with a moderately-active small bead, the moderately-intense nose showed notes of citrus, beeswax and marzipan. Full-bodied on the palate and with good crisp acidity, the flavors were similar to the nose and led to a medium-length finish. While a nice accompaniment to the various dishes, this wine was (perhaps unfairly) sandwiched between two sparkling gems and warranted a (relatively) low but respectable unblinded score of 90. It should drink well for at least another 8-10 years.

Nose: jackfruit, honey, coconut, bit of meat, banana, sugar cane, nutty
Notes: signature oxidative nose as usual.

Incipient maturity on the nose showing green apples, chalk and minerals and opens up with hazelnuts and milk chocolate in a delicious way. Butter and toffee on the palate with a pleasant lime citrus acidity and a gentle touch of dried fruit on the generous palate with a lovely and lengthy finish.

10/19/2023 - I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine Likes this wine: 95 Points

Deg May 2017
2010/2009/2008

Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux): Served blind and you'd think that this would be easy because he has such a very distinguished style and yet not at all. I think maybe because he has such a different style it was a bit harder. I was in the world of Pinot because there was some spice and herbal to it. But that is really just his oxidation causing the different flavors. It's an interesting wine and constantly evolving. Poured a very dark yellow in the decanter and a lot lighter in the glass. Lovely to drink.

Fantastic.

Paired with caviar so it was definitely a decadent afternoon with some good friend whom we hadn't really seen since March. Nice to have an afternoon that felt semi-normal in a time that really isn't.

This is now well evolved, shows a nice mature feel to it, light oxidative (just a touch), rich profile and good depth.

A touch of pepper and bitterness on the finish.
Opened up nicely and came along with more time in the glass, but would have shown better with more bottle age.
92 + points tonight.

On the nose: oxidative element, very Selosse liked and Burgundy liked. Red apples, integrated oak and vanilla, hint of sherry.
On the palate: Yellow and Red mature apples, vanilla with a little tart finish during the first 20-30 minutes in the glas. Later on it went away and become a rather nice and round finish.
Medium + finish

disgorged July 2010.

Stunner!

Yellow flowers, straw, hints of apple and faint oxidative notes on the nose. Acid cuts through much of the palate but there are clear dried flower and vanilla notes. April 2014 disgorgement. Flott nese.
Blir litt ubalansert - Noe skuffende kanskje. 89p
Og da er jeg snill.

This V.O. was on fire today.

More frizzante than fizzy, and extremely wine-like rather than Champagne - JUST AS IT SHOULD BE with the VO from Selosse.
A vinous expericence, and MOST enjoyable.
A tad intellectual, though.

A great wine from a great winemaker. Consider the money you have paid it as an investment for your mental balance.

Tightly-packed with notes of citrus oil, orange rind, white peach, honeysuckle, and brioche, the full-bodied Selosse V.O should age well for 5-10 years. Crisp, fresh, and backward.

Very full nose of apricot, brioche and rhubarb (!). Explosive in the mouth, rich fruit that must have been harvested very ripe given he low dosage, no noticeable oak, just slightly oxidative, not overly rich just balanced intense champagne, addictive
