Brown garnet on purple. Dark berry and tobacco. Palate is black cherry and pepper. Good medium tannins with acid support. Opened an hour early and could have another hour.

Garnet going browning with a brown rim. Cork disintegrated so decanted through a coffee filter. Rasin to prune spice and chocolate. Slightly acid but balanced fruit and spice with smooth tannins. Very near a peak of balance. Probably good for another year.

Pours with a thick dark maroon color. Has a deep, rich aroma with bright berries, and a dark side that's almost candied. A distinct oak note starts to come out as it opens up. The flavor has strong tannins, thick dark fruit, some bright berries, and a little heat of alcohol.
Tasted at about 68°F.

A rich jammy wine with some burn to it due to acidic imbalance. It is actually a little better with a slight chill to it. Dark sweet fruit aromas and flavors. A decently long finish.

Robijnrood. Zoetig, gestoofd fruit in geur en smaak. Alcoholisch en voor mijn smaak wat over the top, een parapluutje in het glas zou niet misstaan. Er zullen vast liefhebbers voor zijn, maar het is niet mijn ding.

No formal notes. This is OK. By itself, I thought it might have a hint of TCA taint. With food I couldn't pick out any potential fault. It was full of dark fruit and dealt well with garlic. All's well that ends well, I suppose. This was "good," but not worth the retail price of $20.

Spanish Wine Tasting and Tapas (Albuquerque): I felt this was somewhat over the top. Roasted bordering on pruney fruits dominate, like a super ripe Zinfandel. Lets you know the 15% ABV on the label is not an exaggeration. On the other hand, some floral and mineral qualities emerge with aeration. R liked this for that reason, but seems like it would be overbearing after a glass.

This has quite a variety of likes and dislikes in the notes. My first bottle was nice but a bit light. In spite of that we took this to a sibling's gathering and had with beef stew. It held up very nicely and was thoroughly enjoyed. Better than the first bottle I think. Certainly better than expected for this price.

Second bottle of night, better than first. Still a good value but not what I remember from the early 2000s. Will continue to drink for now. See my other comment on other bottle.

Mildly astringent, flat with min. Fruit and weak nose. I haven't had Las Rocas for a few years but this was not what I remembered. I actually opened a second bottle to see if it was better. It was better, a 88. I'll keep at it hoping it is an off year. Still a decent value for late night after getting off work.

PnP after drinking everything else. Clear, deep purple color. A very nice Garnacha considering price. Smooth, clean, proper fruit nose/taste, med mid/finish, balanced. Nothing off, good restaurant wine. $15 (gift)

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of blueberries, black berries and plums. Flavors of black berries, black raspberries and black cherries. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. I say drink over the next 2-3 years.

- Crimsom color and aromas of strawberry jam. It's unbalanced and has flavours of strawberry jam, raisin and black pepper with a medium body. Narrow texture with a medium finish.

Red fruit on nose, fruit forward on the palate. Good amount of heat on the nose and palate. Bitter finish, but not a bad wine for the price. Decanted for 12 hours, will try again in 24 more hours.

The nose on this is reminiscent of chocolate covered cherries. Showing very bright cherry and mineral favors on the palate with nice acidity that draws out the finish. This wine contains its 15% alcohol very well.

Visually: red to purple, medium body with some translucence. Aroma: bright fruit flavors jump from the glass, with a subtle undertone of baking spice. This is more complex on the palate than I had anticipated. The fruit from the aroma carries through, but with an added creaminess and concentration, and a touch of oak structure. Almost Zinfandel-esque. 30-second finish with enough tannin left to make me comfortable leaving the rest of my stash in the cellar through another year at least. Nicely paired with good pizza and hearty grilled vegetable dishes. Nice for the price. Would be a 90-point wine in my book if the acid component were more prominent.

International Newcomers Club Madrid - Wine and Tapas - May 2012 (Paseo del Pintor Rosales): Chris presented this old vine Granache from a little-known wine-growing region (Calatayud) in Aragon that Robert Parker particularly loves. Very big (15.5%) and a little tough at first, but mellows fairly quickly in the glass. It would take more time than we had to judge its potential, but I definitely want to try another bottle at a more leisurely pace.

Popular imported Garnacha I discovered via @KLWines years ago and haven't tasted in a years. Pleasing nose of blackberry, red fruit, pepper. Not a subtle Grenache, bigger red wine drinkers will appreciate this. Good structure, but not over powering. Better 2nd day or with a bit of air. A good Spanish find for <$20.

A really lovely red for $20, with floral and berried aromas and flavors. There is a bright minerality in the finish, which starts in the mid-palate and persists. A very impressive effort for the price.

Really good wine--better than the V05 Tardieu-Laurent CNP VV tasted along side it, and really began to sing with the grilled sausages for dinner (the TL, which was pretty big comparatively, went the other way). Bright red fruit, good mineral and good length. Retains its acidity while still showing plenty of depth of fruit. Great wine for under $20.
