Flat and thin on opening. Two hours after double decant reveals modest Pinot character, but still unyielding and unrewarding. At about $30, typical French shit.

The Wines of Burgundy Seminar (The Wine Country, Signal Hill, CA): This bottle showed clearly better than the bottle from a few days ago. Really beautiful generous nose. Palate didn't disappoint either. New world-ish big and deep fruit but well-balanced. Young, but very approachable right now. Some structure underneath the bold fruit hints that this will last a while too.

Drank this way too young, but this shows lots of promise. Forward fruit, medium-bodied but quite primary, with some clove. Structure was not immediately evident, but at times, there would be flashes of tannin and acidity - not at all linear. I guess this would be considered disjointed (not surprising at this young stage). Still, there were some very interesting flavors and aromas and I think this wine will be quite good once it settles down in a year or 10.

Pernand-Vergelesses Rouges (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Light color. Generous fruity nose with a little bit of funk. Light palate. Improved with time in the glass. Still young.
