Blind Tasting 1980-87 Ridge Geyservilles (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Whoa, spicy nose, black pepper and baking spice, along with red raspberry. Really nice. Medium to full bodied with medium acidity. Ripe blackberry and plum fruit, some tannins left. Could easily go another ten years. (my 4th, group's 4th)

2009 Novy Syrahs: Blindtasting with Adam Lee (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Nose is more reticent, some baked plum. Light to medium bodied, low to medium acidity, tart plum fruit. Silky mouthfeel. Simple but really nice.

17 vintages of Ridge Zinfandel, '67 & '78 Stony Hill & Dessert Wines (Campanile in Los Angeles, CA.): A somewhat reserved wine with little to offer following the fabulous '72. The nose seemed subdued with a very erathy quality an a hint of VA. Rather hollow on the midpalate. The finish on this wine was also short and clipped.
