The wine is medium ruby with developed medium minus aromas of violet, raspberry red currant red cherry red plum strawberry vanilla charred wood, tar, chocolate, and tobacco. This is a dry wine with medium intensity flavors and medium body high acidity medium tannins and high alcohol. This wine has primary flavors of red cherry, red currant, strawberry and cranberry and secondary flavors of vanilla, charred wood, and chocolate. Tertiary flavors of tar and tobacco also noted. This wine has a medium + finish and is a very good quality wine. This wine should be drunk now and not suitable for aging.

PnP. Fully mature rosso wine, with plenty of leather, some dried cherry, etc. The palate is medium bodied, with a resinous top coat, avg length and complexity. Time to drink up, so enjoy now (even if it's still got a little time). Plenty good for Monday night leftovers. recommended
Bit of a last minute decision to open it but worth it.
Classic Tuscan flavours (morello cherries and all that) but with hints of sloes and even rich fruit cake in there too. Nose was slightly closed (and stayed that way) but there were some tobacco notes in there, maybe even some cinnamon. Perhaps getting towards the end of its life but still a lot of fruit, even if in the dried fruit end of the spectrum. Excellent length

Wow. This is FULLY mature. This is the second poggione that has made a sudden lurch towards maturity, the Rosso '10 showing earthy cherries, mushrooms, broken down flavours and forest floor. This is VERY soft, though the nose doesn't show it with a sharpness that doesn't come through on the palate. It is interesting that this is so at the end of its life; it still had plenty of acidity and tart fruit a year ago but this has practically collapsed. Not to say it isn't lovely - it is. But clearly, this is in its last throws and further cellaring would be a waste. 91

beautiful rosso, soft tannins and still some decent acids. The red fruit and a little garrigue are well integrated. At the background floral notes, cedar wood a little balsamico and minerality. Hold max two years.

Real quality here, a sharp blast of aromatic, dry and satisfying fruit. Lighter in style than the brunello (which in the earlier years I prefer) this is a serious wine for the money and one well worth buying in good vintages. Maybe a little too sharp but this is great. 90

In this showing it really dawned on me how longlifed this bottling will probably be. On opening, some funky aroma which took some hours to blow off (actually it got better on day 2) it blossomed into a perfumed nose with roses, violets, sage, balsamico and a palate which showed incredible backbone and structure for this bottling, and nice complexities almost as seen with rosso's from Poggio Sotto or Il poggione own brunello bottling. Something which i didnt experience so much on previous showings. It has gained quite a lot of weight but remains a red fruited, elegant, and true version of Sangiovese, finish is long and the tannins are there in spades. Will probably drink well beyond 2020 with good storage. Was drunk without food, and it wont kill you! but can certainly see it pair well with pasta red sauce type of dishes

Clear ruby. Nose of red cherry, abundant spices (nutmeg, cinnamon) cherry liqour, meaty and smoky notes. Palate is razorsharp and well structured with the fruit cloaked in acidity. Grippy finish with coarse tannin ending with hint of spices. Finishes rather short today and the moutfeel is lacking some density here, the midpalate needs time to flesh out and the rough edges needs to smoothen out. I'll refer you Eric Guido's tasting notes below which pretty much describe what I drank except, I liked it a bit more than Erik so 89pts for me. Pretty much what you want and expect from classically style RdM. PnP but if you have time decant or open earlier or both. Definitely best with food. Maybe a couple more years would soften the tanins.

Had at Club A steakhouse in nyc. Nose of earth, red fruit, sweet spice. Tastes of red fruit, graphite, chalk dust, kirsch. Tannins are medium and well integrated. Acidity is medium and keeps the wine in balance. Loses it's intensity after an hour or so but a very good qpr. Would buy again in quantity.

The nose showed ripe cherry, herbs, cinnamon stick, chalk dust, and metallic mineral tones. On the palate, ripe red berry with a bitter twang was met by brisk acidity, creating a mouth-water experience that carried into the finish with inner floral tones and slightly drying tannin. This wine finds it's perfect companion in a plate of pasta, but without food, is a little painful.

This opened up with a nose of wet laundry, rotting wood and red fruit. Not great out of the gate. The majority of the dirtiness blew off within the first hour leaving slightly darker fruit scents. The flavors were led off with sharp acid up front with a bright cherry flavor that would have been really nice had it not been followed up by a ridiculously bitter finish. It was tannic, which is fine, but boy was it bitter. It still wasn't a bad wine, just had higher hopes.

"Authentic" dark garnet color with some transparency. Delightfully classic, familiar nose of dust covered red sour cherry, leather and dry, toasty oak. Silky mouthfeel on the entry, then the high acidity bites and dries up the palate. Quite notable tannins are also present, especially because in the end this is a fairly lean wine. On the palate this is classic Sangiovese: very dry and savoury, full of ripe red cherry fruit with some hints of minerality. After tasting several less than satisfactory RdM's during the last year or so I'm really feeling this wine's purity and austere charm. It should be mentioned that after some exploring I found out that this wine definitely benefits from being served a bit under room temp. At roomp temp (and above) the focus declines and the 14 % ABV really starts to show.

A good mid-weight, fairly traditional Rosso just coming into its drinking window. I'm still not convinced that Rosso di Montalcino is a sensible purchase, given all the fine chianti available for the same or, in many cases, even less $. That said, I plan to enjoy the other 5 of these over the next 3 years and expect to be happy each time I pull one.

Really pure sangiovese. A deft touch from the winemaker as so many sangioveses are overmanipulated. Light in color, dried red fruit, fresh-slight orange flavor from the great acidity, structured without being overly tannic, and very drinkable. Good now, but could definitely age a few years. Guessed 2008 version of this double blind.

Decanted for 30 minutes before enjoying with Lasagna. Tight nose - cranberry, cherry primarily. On palate, medium body with cherry, raspberry, high acids, medium to medium+ finish and mouth drying tannins on the finish. I enjoyed this and would buy again. On the dry spectrum of red wine which is what you should expect with Sangiovese.

A bit thin. It has nice fruit at a narrow point in the taste spectrum, but it's not overly complex. Similarly, there is a little finish in a narrow range. As I write this, I feel like 87 is too high, but it is still a pleasant wine, so I am going to stick with 87.

Bright fruit, rubber, burnt something or other, toast I suppose, plus hints of a darker element - earth? or pine perhaps - on the nose which distinguishes it, just about, from a good Chianti Classico. Silky, medium-bodied palate with rubbery tannins and a bitter, somewhat short finish.

Ruby color with a nose of flat red fruit. Very young and closed. Initially the fruit was almost nonexistent, but some very nice sweet red cherry emerged after 30 minutes. Unfortunately, it was gone 30 minutes later and entirely absent on the 2d day. The tannin was intense, dry and grainy -- overpowering everything else.

Black cherry and plum, lifted by sweet strawberry with chocolate and licquorice notes, this is certainly modern but has a classic Sangiovese profile. The nose is initially very toasty and tinged with the sort of delightful fresh pine you don't expect at this level. This has a plump, ripe body and a bitter dark chocolate finish. Excellent, compelling and is a lot more fun than a few brunello I've had. 90 points

I had a much better impression of this wine then what seems to be the consencus of CT: Deep ruby in colour, youthfull nose with aromatics of sweet cherry and strawberry and a hint of spices. Very nicely textured in the mouth with plenty of red fruit present, firm tannins and good acidity makes for a well balanced impression. Full bodied, Palate is very red fruit dominated, on the finish the spice box and bell pepper is beginning to show, albeit faintly. Powerfull and impressive "fruity" RDM. The oak is not noticed. With aeration (2 hours) it seems to actually get darker in colour, and the fruit profile also turns a shade darker revealing black cherries and black raspberry and jam on the palate. Complexity increases as well. Impressive longitude and seems to be able to hold for many years.

Beautiful flavor profile consisting of wild berries, flowers and melon. Well balanced overall, with fine tannins and a fairly lengthy finish.

Popped and poured with dinner.
Great nose, palate seemed a bit muted. With some breathing time it may develop more.

PnP with dinner then consumed over the next 3 hours. Got better as the night went on but nothing special. Dark cherry, tobacco, oak. Meh

Très jeune, puissance incroyable pour RDM, à mesure que je buvais ce vin, il devenait de plus en plus digeste... bonne acidité soutenu par des tannins fins soyeux. Très bien
miam miam on en redemande pour ce prix

Almost seemed like a bad bottle. Immediately hit with overpowering acidity and then the finish is overwhelmed by tobacco. None of the normal cherry and no refinement at all. Being generous with an 84 as I'm hoping this was an off bottle.

90 points

I had a much better impression of this wine then what seems to be the consencus of CT:
Deep ruby in colour, youthfull nose with aromatics of sweet cherry and strawberry and a hint of spices.

This didn't rock me as much as I had hoped based on the combination of producer and vintage reputation. I'll try another as btl variation is likely. Drank like a nice $12 wine.

- Purple color with medium forming legs and aromas of raspberry. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of raspberry and blackberry with a medium body. Round texture.
