A bit of a disappointment to be honest as I love Palmer and great vintages like 2000 should be an absolute whopper. But this started off with nice promising dark birdeaux classic cassis and earth flavours but never went anywhere, just twisted and turned and got a little more classic and old school over time, I could never find energy or oomph, in the bottle anyway. Don’t shoot me but ended up splashing a bit of crunchy cru Beaujolais into it to add some life and then it jumped up a few points.

Tasted blind. Took a while to open up and straight itself out - on open it almost had Chambolle character then later a little La Chapelle fruitiness and femininity - then about 90 minutes righted itself to clearly being a Margaux from a solid vintage. Red and blue fruits, touch of cedar, beautiful tannin structure and incredible length. Really enjoyable.

Pnp before dinner… Medium garnet with no browning at the rim. Rich blackberry fruit aromas, earth and light barnyard (that appears to blow off with a couple minutes in the glass). Iron jumps out of the glass, pencil shavings too. A fresh green Cab note, well placed in the mix. Medium tannin, medium plus acid. Fruit from the nose doesn’t follow to the palate immediately. Day 2, 100ml left, a really pure blackberry aroma. Shows as a wine not overdone or bombastic. Cherry blossom aroma.

2000 horizontal featuring Leovilles (Las Cases, Poyferre, Barton), Palmer, Lynch-Bages, La Mission Haut-Brion, Latour and Les Forts de Latour. Palmer second choice as WOTN narrowly behind Latour. Superb florals and finish. Margaux characteristics in spades. Bravo. Drink or hold. Will improve.
Ruby red with significant sediment in the bottle. After three hour decant, there was cedar, smoke and tobacco on the nose. Red fruit flavors. Tannins in check. Stunning wine that still has some life ahead. Thanks Ann and Mike for sharing

I foreswore to leave this alone for another couple of years, but here I am again 11 months on. That said, I bought two cases back in the day, and I always like to enjoy a wine at different stages of its development. It has reached a stage over the last year where a 5 or 6 hour decant will display most of its glory. The nose is heady and unmistakably Palmer with cherry and cedar underpinned by violet wafts. The palate is nearly integrated and is complex and multilayered. The finish is still initially hard to fathom with residual tannin, but once you break through it shows incredible depth and pushes past 60 seconds with unwavering balance. As mentioned previously, I think this and the 2005 could become the next generation 1983. If you have a few bottles it is well worth digging into this now, but another couple of years will be transformational. 96+

Château Palmer vertical (Herbert Smith Freehills, London): 47 M, 53 CS - the only wine tonight with no PV (not sure why). Rather evolved on the sulphurous, complex, compelling nose. Pretty far into its tertiary phase, with lovely acidity and attractive grip, and a spicy finish. This would be wonderful with a roast dinner. At peak?

Decanted for 2 hours before dinner. The wine kept on getting better in the glass for the next 3 hours.
The nose is all right, but the most fragrant of Palmer.
The fruits (cassis, red fruits etc..) are ripe but without being over-the-top, and get sweeter with air. The acidity is barely enough to balance out the fruits. The tannins are very fine and well managed. Lots of fine sentiments.

I’ve had this multiple times with consistent performance. Well balanced with intriguing notes of spice and smoke that make it fun to drink and revisit after each sip, but it is not in the upper echelon of Palmer wines because the fruit is flat in the mid palate through the finish. I’ve experienced this with a few 00s and believe this to be characteristic of the vintage. Not worth the price, and you’re better off buying other vintages: 98, 05, 09, 10, etc

Older style claret compared to the '09 drunk alongside but it's beautifully balanced and fully integrated with great smoky dark fruits with a violet tinge emerging. Full-bodied but lithe in texture and while the tannins seem a bit rustic compared to the '09, the finish is so finely complex with notes of graphite, sweet earth and violet-spice. A gorgeous Palmer that is still on the upswing. At NYC Commanderie Dinner, L'Appart. 95+

Chez Winefool Goodbye Dinner (Chicago, IL): Wow, this is more like it. Epic perfume of fruit, graphite, florals and spice. Rich but with a feminine curved quality. Long, long finish. My kind of BDX.

The End of Winefoolishness in Chicago (Hughes House - Chicago IL): I'm frankly rarely a fan of where most 2000 Bordeaux is showing today. But Palmer is different. Alluring from the moment it is poured into glass. Aromas and flavors both show so much richness and depth, while being engaging and fully accessible. Great now, great for decades to come.

This wine has the etherial nose present in the great vintages of Palmer. More ready to drink than the highly regarded '99, the palate is well balanced and packed with fruit. Tannins are tamed and this wine is in it's drinking window with many good years ahead. Long, pleasant finish.

Decanted 3 hours. The high acidity only came into balance with enough air (when the fruit became more dominant). The 3 hours were perfect in my view to drink the wine at this young stage. This wine still has a long life ahead of it. 93-94 pts. at the moment.

Fine Wines SG - Chateau Palmer Grand Cru Tasting (Fine Wines SG): Deep ruby with a slight garnet hue, and thick legs. Violet floral aromas, with ripe blackberry and black cherry, moss and black pepper and cinnamon. Very fresh blackberry and cassis fruits on the palate, then tomato, black pepper, paprika, and nutmeg and dried grass. This grassy feel further extends to the backpalate, along with the fruits and savoury meats, to a very lengthy finish. Great wine!
Deep black purple. Brooding with heavy overtones of smoke, steaming coffee, iron, graphite and charcoal that obscure the fruit and elegance typically associated with Palmer. Probably could have used more than the 2 hours of air I have it, as well as a larger glass.

A glorious Palmer, which does need another couple of years to show it at its best, but it is already so enjoyable and difficult to resist if you have a case or two. If drinking now give it two or three hours in the decanter. Packed with ripe cherry and cedar, and underpinned with tobacco with floral wafts of violet, it is a perfect Palmer. The tannin is still dominating end palate and on the finish, and is an obstacle to a complete experience, but it is an exceptional wine and should be challenging the 1983 and 1989 as the best from the estate since the 1961 and 1966. A post note this just kept developing in the glass throughout the night and got even better. 96+

Wine Workshop: Chateau Palmer (Benoit): From a magnum. Side by side with the 2001 and there was a split in the group on preference. I'm going to say I liked them both. Definitely more fruit here, more concentration, but then there was this almost green like note that I got in this wine which gave it a bit more balance. Enjoyable. Don't think it's ready or near ready yet but it was fun to check in and it's not quite as far away as it used to be.

The 2000 Challenge, part II (Jerar restaurant): 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 13%, open 14.00, decanted 18.30 tasted 21.10 -/- The wine is amazingly fresh, high intensity, filled with black fruit, cherries, currants, graphite again, bold and dense, very fresh, only a touch earthy with a beautiful oak frame. Palate is big and bold, juicy tannins, elegant, finesse, silky texture, nice acidity, a touch of coffee and spices, long finish. Outstanding quality, very fresh, fruity, bold. Just like the last time I did this tasting, this is the most backward of them all. Incroyable and wine of the night for me -//- 10.40 the wine hasn’t changed a bit

At age 22, Palmer 2000 is finally in a great spot and unquestionably accessible, really popping after an hour in the decanter. It has an explosive nose showing layers of intense blackberry fruit, mocha, cigar box and a kiss of cedar and soil tones. The palate, while still showing some ripe tannins, is velvety and seductive with tremendous depth, balanced acids and massive length. Many fabulous years ahead for this beauty.

Annual BYO Pre-Dinner (mostly mature Bordeauxs): A trio of Palmer. Again, the 1989 (96 pts) delivered a convincing performance. This is a sensual, irresistible Palmer, probably drinking near or at its peak today. The 1983 (93 pts) didn’t show well compared to what you expect from this vintage. Missing a bit of substance (!) and charm, my guess is that like other bottles before, this needs a lot of air and more time in the cellar to get to the ideal drinking window the 1989 is already in. The 2000 (92 pts), like many 2000s, is not yet ready to drink. The fruit is not yet fully back and hence, the this wine lacks a bit of sweetness to be fully balanced. Give it a few more years.
TN: A bit murky nose, not super well defined. Dark fruit minerality, a bit masculine. On the palate better with a beautiful fruit to complement the minerality which is still dominating. Needs a few more years for the sweetness to come back. Structure is impeccable. Round and harmonious, no hard edges. With time a bit more sweetness and toastiness comes out and the wines get better. Overall, this confirms my view that a) the 2000s are not yet ready and b) probably don’t have the concentration of the best vintages. 92/93 pts.
Decanting: Not decanted, a 2+ hour decant would certainly have been helpful at this stage.

Ripe and extracted fruit, savory spices, leather, earth and a meaty backdrop of bacon. Plenty of depth and concentration. Palate is not even close to integrated with wild acidity, mouthcoating tannin - but the balance is there, hence only a question of cellaring for another 20+ years it seems.

For myself this is the best Palmer since the legendary 1983, and is already ahead of the great vintages of 1989 and 1999. Although in the earlier stages of its drinking window, it is remarkably forward and approachable. It is the embodiment of Palmer with incredible depth, but somehow displaying a delightful delicacy. Full of ripe blackcurrant and cherry underpinned by tobacco with floral wafts of violet and hints of cedar. It is already silky smooth on the palate and it is liquid velvet in the mouth. There is still some residual harshness on the finish, but this should resolve with time. The finish is on the shorter side but it is still pushing past 30 seconds. I suspect that unresolved tannin is again the problem and masking the subtlety of lingering notes. This will continue to keep improving and possibly warrant another a point or two in the future, but it is too good not to be drinking now. This was decanted for 3 hours.
i was a less impressed by this than i had hoped to be. very nice bottle of wine, with beautiful aromatics and good depth but a drying finish limited the enjoyment

Really high extraction, you can taste the ripeness of the fruit. Just a hint of roasted edge. Dense and weighty, minimal bricking conceals it’s age. This one has many decades to go before it peaks. I guessed 05 right bank…

Significantly better than my last bottle two years ago and a superb showing. Quick double decant in the morning, slow ox'ed for 12h and then decanted again in the restaurant for about 45 min. Transparent garnet with thin clear rim. Fully resolved with superb balance of red and dark fruit, subtle leather and tobacco notes, very aromatic, barely medium body, light on its feet, elevated acidity, tannins fully integrated. Exceptional length - could still taste the finish after returning from the washroom to the dinning table... If anything, one would wish for a little more concentration on the mid palate - for somebody used to bigger and riper Cabs, the acidity would seem perhaps a bit out of whack

The 2000 is developing very well, remaining a few years away from full maturity but undeniably accessible now. The profile here is classic Palmer with a mix of red, black, and blueberries with lavender and cedar accents; an impactful wine, somehow still with a delicate touch. This has beautiful energy and depth. 57% CS, 43% M

Outstanding Bordeaux that is just getting in the zone but has a long life ahead of it.
Color is dark garnet, but not inky. First inclination this will be special is the nose - an incredible perfume of violets, rose petal, orchids and deep, rich cassis. The palate retains the same lovey floral element as the nose along with rich tobacco, tar, and powerful deep red fruits. Finish is extremely long. There is a lovey plush texture here as well, but acidity remains well balanced and tannins have smoothed out nicely.
This is just getting into the drinking zone. It’s already excellent and I’m looking forward to seeing this develop over the next 20-30 years.

This is unmistakably Palmer, and for myself this is the best from the estate since the iconic 1983, and already surpassing the 1989 and 1999. It is liquid velvet in the mouth with a deep delicate violet and tobacco nose. Ripe berry fruits and plum dominate the palate, and the finish shows perfect balance and depth nudging unwaveringly to 60 seconds. This is the embodiment of elegance and is ready to be enjoyed now. It will continue to evolve and last for the next 2 or3 decades, but it already has its essential character profile. This was decanted for 3 hours and this seemed to be adequate.

This bottle was much better than the one tasted a few months ago. With the texture of pure silk, from the moment the wine left the glass, it was where it needed to be with its perfume seemingly created in a tobacco shop with flowers on every counter. Full-bodied, elegant, fresh and refined, the silky tannins and layers of sweet, ripe, soft red fruits on your palate sealed the deal. You can enjoy this for another 2 decades with ease.

The 2000 Palmer is really singing right now. Decanted for about 2 hours, then drank over the next two with a New York strip and mushroom soufflé. Distinct notes of blackberry, currant and just a hint of mint. Over the course of the evening the wine settled into perfect equilibrium with wonderful structure and finesse, with a long and silky finish. Just a really enjoyable wine.

Stubbornly hanging on to its youth, the wine is rich, full-bodied, fresh and vibrant, with loads of sweet, ripe, spicy red and black fruits, earth, flowers, tobacco leaf and a touch of smoke. Structured to age, give it another 5 years to fill out and soften.

Double decanted for a good 2 hours and definitely the wine needs this to open up and also we would urge caution as the wine has a lot of fine sediment, Still very much a young wine and easily has another 10yrs before it hits peak. We have had this wine twice before and it was always shut and backward but at least now 7 years after rating it 89 we are happy to see it coming into its stride. Beautiful nose of that classic minty Palmer signature, soft and elegant across and silky, so effortlessly elegant like all the great wines . Needs some more time to get to its full potential on the palate. 94 for now but full of promise for more.

Bordeaux 2000 - 20 Years On - 48 Reds: All tasted blind, not decanted. Observations: 1) It´s a good vintage but not on par with more recent great vintages like 09/10/15/16. Why? A smaller group of top wines reaching lower highs and in general a tad less depth, purity and finesse. 2) Right bank is ready, the left bank still needs time to integrate and open up. 3) Not much tertiary aromas yet - peak drinking window at least 10 years away for most wines. 4) 2000 is a bit a cooler vintage which is great for the right bank (not too much ripeness). 5) Winners? Pomerol with the highest ratings. Le Pin (97+ pts) leading the pack for me (narrowly beating the consensus winner Pavie (97 pts).
More information, top and worst 10 lists, appellation rankings, out- and underperformer from five participants in the story link. As always, in such tastings (lots of wines, not a lot of time per wine, not decanted) the ranking of wines/appellations might be more informative than the scores.
TN: Very muted nose with little expression. The palate showed that there is some potential with a potpourri of very well defined red berries, rhubarb, rosehip and floral notes. Still quite primary and with a not perfectly integrated acidity. I guess this could become a 94-96 point wine (or already might be today with enough air). In the best moments today 93 points (in in other moments weaker).
Decanting: I guess this would have needed 2-4 hours in the decanter - at least.
Group average: 93.0 pts Group rank: Shared 20th out of 48

Having a group of wine friends over for my birthday to blind taste a few Bordeaux 2000 while BBQ'ing. Expressive nose in the brown color spectrum with farmyard, sweet spice, gingerbread and sandal wood. Elegant palate with a soft touch. This was a split guess left/right bank. Grand Bordeaux 2000 horizontal tasting; 6/20/2021-6/21/2021: Grand Bordeaux 2000 tasting with ~60 wines from the vintage hosted by a private collector. All wines were poured directly from the bottle with no decant and served in flights of 4. As general observations I would highlight: 1/ Today the 2000 is, without a doubt, a right bank vintage with Pomerol the star, 2/ the vast majority of wines are still going strong with hardly any past their peak 3/ On the left bank, St Estèphe was most ready to drink with a lot of wines in a closed stage right now, 4/ On the left bank, 2nd to 4th growths were generally more open for business than the 1st growths which almost all closed, only hinting at their full potential. 5/ If you must open a left bank bottle, Margaux is the safest place to look. Complete scoring overview and additional commentary included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Intense, ripe and precise aroma profile, fruit forward and rather extracted. Pretty dense and structured palate, but lacking elegance. Rather atypical for Palmer I found and clearly a much inferior bottle to the one I had a couple of years ago, even though that too was not as elegant and refined as I've come to expect from one of my favorite Châteaux.

When I last tasted the 2000 Château Palmer the better part of a decade ago, I thought it was a bit too overtly oak lactone-inflected for its own good, but at age 20, it's really showing very well, offering up rich aromas of blackberries, plums and loamy soil mingled with hints of cigar ash and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and enveloping, it's textural and gourmand, with powdery tannins, succulent acids, and a long, sapid finish.

Very fun Margaux night - '86 Pavillon vs '00 Palmer. 4hrs of decanting for the latter before dinner and could have even used more air! Both bottles were great although the Pavillon is just a touch past peak and the Palmer needs some more time. That said, both were still enjoyable!

The 2000 Palmer is shaping up nicely with impressive concentration to its rich dark fruit and tobacco profile. Requiring several hours in the decanter to completely reveal its personality, with enough air this unfurls in the glass with softening tannins and a supple texture framing dark fruit flavors that offer good persistence. Very good. Drink now through 2035.

Have this for Xmas dinner and what can I say. It’s like the boss. Close and shut out at the start. Little herb, spice and floral note with little depth. U must be really patient with this. At the 3 hour mark, it blossomed into an incredible sophisticated power house with fitnese and total structure control. The swirl in the mouth brings out indescribable intensity and different notes that keep hitting u. The finish is superbly long. Even after the final drops, I can still it improving. Many many more years to go. Don’t waste it by opening it now. Lovely.

Used Coravin to see where we are as part of this Corona Christmas... Reassuring to have good wine. Powerful yet refined, this Chateau Palmer 2000, whose colour is youthful still, for the nearly 20 year mark. The bouquet, rather regal, strikes a balance between burgeoning tertiary - hints of wet earth, touches of saddle leather, touches of truffle - and wet stone freshness along with the the bright red and black fruit and fresh white flower nature of youth. Oh there is tannic power too! Not yet all melted. Needs another 20 years for that. For those who like youthfulness, but with some cellar complexity, the 2000 is in a (very) sweet spot now. An enveloping palate but never overbearing or heavy. Indeed you get palate juiciness and density, smooth but with contours leading to a long finish that echoes forest freshness with bright lifting energy. The finish still has a somewhat foreboding aspect from pleasingly unresolved tannin. Superb!
It took 2 hours of air before the wine softened, opened and displayed its concentrated, silky, fresh, elegant, plum, cherry, tobacco, floral, earth and cigar box character. Concentrated, full-bodied and probably a slightly firmer, regal style of Palmer seems to be forming here. Give it another 5 years and we will know for sure.

One hour decant. Purple color to dark pink at the edge. Nose is intense black fruit, olive, hints of bay leaf, dill. Very nicely integrated, drinking well...a delicious bottle.

This was popped & poured and enjoyed on a warm summer night outdoors. Very perfumed nose with flavors of black and red fruits, spices and hint of cigar box and oolong tea. What is striking about this wine is the silky texture which has a sensual quality to it. The balance is impeccable here, like a ballerina full of grace and finesse. This wine is entering its early drinking window. The 1983 Palmer has always been one of my all-time favorite Bordeaux. It will be exciting to follow this wine’s evolution to see how it compares to the 1983. WOW!

I have waited over 15 years for this moment, and it didn't disappoint. Probably my favourite estate, this already reminds me of the 1983, of which I exhausted my supplies a number of years ago. It combines blackcurrant, plum, dark cherry, liquorice, and musty old leather to give an old school Bordeaux experience. This still has development ahead of it, but it is so enjoyable at the moment. The balance is exquisite, and the depth on the palate outstanding, with a 60 seconds finish, albeit subtle and creeping. What will improve is further resolving of the tannin. Once this sweetens you could have an almost perfect wine. This had 3 hours in a closed decanter followed by 2 hours with it opened and this seemed to be just on the spot. This is already kicking the 1989 into touch and even pipping the fabulous 1999.

One hour decant of two bottles which were identical in taste. Ruby red. Nose of sweet red fruits. Full bodied, tongue coating lingering taste. Ripe fruit containing both the subtlety of the sour of the skin and the sweet of the pulp and juice. This wine has entered peak enjoyment phase...which will likely last for years.

Lunch at Vianney Massot (Vianney Massot, Hong Kong Street, Singapore): Decanted an hour before service, this was excellent. Still youthful, but already absolutely delicious. The nose was classic Palmer, with just perhaps a little extra ripeness, showing lovely wafts of sweet cassis, cedar and tobacco spice, with just a twist of leather and sous bois just starting to peek out. Lovely. I really liked the palate too. Clean, pure and lovely, it was ringing with fresh, transparent flavours of dark cherry and sweet cassis, dried earth, mineral and a nice ring of tobacco slice. Altogether lovely and generous, yet sleek and polished, and soft, feminine and elegant from head to toe - everything you would want in a good Palmer. Good long finish too, with just the lightest rasp of fine tannins leading into a spicy tail. How lovely. This will be even better in 5-6 years time.

Deep dark purple core, initial nose was surprisingly open although clearly youthful. Palmer, in my experience, is a wine that requires 20-30 years of bottle age to really show its stuff, 1961, 66, 70, 83, 89. The 2000 is in the zone, described as sexy and lush by more than one at our table, this was a very enjoyable Palmer. Abundant sweet fruit, hints of earth and spice, fine tannins, good acidity, balance and finish. Drinking very well now and should improve a point or two over the next decade.

Xmas eve. Decanted for two hours but this had a nose of sweet dark fruit immediately upon pulling the cork so a long decant is not a must. ark garnet almost to the transparent rim. This is a medium bodied, typical Bordeaux with good acidity, nothing like the much richer 09/10 vintage or the much more tannic 05. Fragrant nose, leather and a touch of tobacco are already joining the dark and red fruit on the palate here, still medium tannins but excellent length and good complexity at the same time. Very nice already but might still gain a point or so as the wine loosens up a bit with another 2-3 years in bottle. 94+
PS: At the 4h mark in the decanter, this is showing more forest floor together with a fair bit of acidity on the palate. Very good Bdx but not sure it’s worth the money at the going rate of around $400, and will stay in the 94-95 range in my eyes

Tasted blind. This wine showed very promising but it still not yet fully ready today. While the wine is opening up it will certainly get more expressive with some additional cellar time and the balance and seamless structure should improve further. The highlight is the Margaux elegance and the purity of fruit it showed after a lot of time in the glass. 93/94 at the start, 95/96 in the end with clear upside to the 97+ category once mature.
TN: Slightly muted nose with nice tertiary aromatics with tobacco and leather, some herbs and some dark fruit. A bit more open on the palate – especially with extended time in the glass - displaying leather, tobacco, truffles, red and black fruit and lots of minerality. The balance, harmony is not yet fully there with a slightly too dominant acidity embedded and a very fine tannin frame. Good length.
Decanting: My guess is that a very long decant is advised here (8+ hours). Better just wait a few more years.

Decanted 2h. Slightly meaty, otherwise herbal , dry leather, and some earthy notes. Last not least, black truffles . Ripe, bold, and fruit forward palate with dark berries dominating. Firm but well integrated tannins. Nice and harmonious but with intensity. Not as elegantly structured as I would have hoped, though. This appears to be just entering the drinking window, maybe not even entirely there yet. I would cellar for another couple of years before releasing this beast.

Birthday dinner at 'The Vine', New Farm. This wine showed a deep crimson colour with a beautiful nose of blackcurrant, blueberry, dark cherry, violets and cedar. The palate was intense and initially linear and strongly structured with lovely fruit characters balanced by a wall of fine and persistent tannins that provided structure and grip. With time in the glass ( initially opened 4 hours before dinner ) the wine transformed with spherical mouth filling fruits and a lovely softness the belied the initial linear impression. The lovely fine finish remained but opulence became part of the overall character of the wine. A beautiful bottle of Palmer that remains young with plenty of room for development when well cellared with a sound cork.

Young with a bit of tightness but great overall finesse and balance.
Earth, tobacco, graphite, red fruit and a bit of heat on highly aromatic nose. Soft, lush mouth feel with bouquet of red and black fruit and good balance, evolving complexity and lightweight feel. Lengthy, smooth but tight finish which suggests this will soften even further.
Highly enjoyable and effeminate. This will continue to relax into a fantastic and easy drinking wine in a few years I’d guess

Woodsy, blueberries, dark fruit, touch of heat, and cassis aromas on a tight, but balanced palate. Drinks very young right now. Medium length on the finish but I think this is either in an awkward phase or still too young. Not sure about upside here but palate and finish are super tight.

The color is a mature scarlet night. The nose is brimming with cherries and undertones of alcohol. On the tongue, it is a full bodied boysenberry pie, that lingers on and on.

Chateau Palmer Masterclass (The Wine Emporium, Wine Education Centre): Palmer Masterclass, The Wine Emporium, Brisbane. This wine had a deep crimson colour and showed a beautiful nose of blackcurrant, blueberry, dark cherry, violets and cedar. The palate was intense with more volume and texture than the 95 and a lovely length and balance. The overall impact is of a linear profile lacking that extra richness of a great Palmer but still achieving a lovely balance of fruit and savoury length.

A Few Wines with BBQ (Chez Whitehead - Northbrook IL): Small glass, brief note. So much here with clearly ripe fruit, but a firmly structured character that comes across as backward today. Great potential, but give this more time in the cellar or lots of time in a decanter.

Typical, but albeit a bit subdued Palmer. Beautiful in the glass. Moderate nose, powerful at the start, but weaker after a while. Velvety, integrated tannins. Lots of punch, with a smooth, long finish. How is this not everybody's favorite producer? Palmer seldom disappoints.
Opened a bottle, decanted and drank over 1.5 hr with 3 other friends. The wine was closed and never open up. Was very disappointing as the previous bottle which I opened a yr ago was so expressive in noise and silky smooth in the mouth.

I readily admit a huge mistake with the other bottle I recently had. This masterpiece requires a very long decant. Palmer 2000 requires at least a 5 hour decant, then begin to enjoyably consume. It possesses black currants, berries, pencil shavings it ran the full continuum of Margaux. The nose changes every ten minutes until ultimately the fruit was evidenced along with the French terrain. It is the Palmer I remember and love. If you cannot decant it for a long period of time, then drink it whenever you can. Spectacular with a long decant.

As a Palmer fan, I was expecting considerably more than 2000 Palmer offered. After a two hour decanting the wine disappointed. The fruit remained locked in. The nose is quite complex with tertiary aromas developing as it opened up. Even so, even though after 19 years, I will lay my other 9 bottles down with the hope it achieves its potential.

Delicious round and very harmonious wine which delivers sheer delight. You can feel it is from a warm vintage but there is no hint of jamminess. Very well made. Red berries, very good structure.

@ VINEUM. Made of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. A very good vintage off course, however, for me personally does not top the 2008 served in previous flight. It is a truly great Margaux however, with very good fruit expression. Quality tannins and good acidity...Will last for a long time over!

During a walkabout tasting, only brief impressions. This was young and tannic still with a slight green streak. Good but not sure this will be among the best Palmers.

Magnum with Gs, decanted an hour, youthful dark, but not dense, ruby, unctuous; cassis, plum, tobacco, cedar, complex and classy; medium/full, long, persistent, quite rich, nice balance, primary fruit covering solid tannins, good grip, attractive and classy if not really singing or ready, long life ahead! At least VF (18.5).

The 2000 Palmer is in a great spot right now. Acidity and tannins are well integrated and the fruit is bursting with freshness. Dark berry aroma and flavor to burn, the future is bright but there’s no reason to wait. Delicious, seductive, so easy to drink.

Occasional dinner group; Bordeaux 2000 (@ Merlet): Beautiful and complex bouquet with sweet spices, dark berries, brown spiced biscuit and cedar. On the palate ripe red and dark berries, complex and refined, beautiful acidity and still powerful tannin. 94 for today, but with an upward potential of a few points in 8+ years from now. For tonight 94++

Deep dark ruby center, no signs of age. Rich dark fruited nose with some spice woven in. Fruit still quite primary and almost blue with hints of iron, richly textured with fine tannins, good acidity and balance, still a baby with significant upside over the next decade.

Dark ruby with garnet highlights. Blueberry, black currant and cedar box. Juicy dark fruit and pleasant floral components are textured with plenty of very fine grained tannins that still have good grip. Very classic with all structural components in good proportions. At peak and offering tremendous drinking pleasure, but will hold well until at least 2030.

Heritage 2017 Blind Wine Tasting Challenge - Chicago "Regional" (Heritage Gallery - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Completely unforthcoming to start. Black fruit with lots of acidity and tannins coaxed out with aeration. Thought it Cab-based, but the backward structure threw this slightly off-kilter for me, and I thought it Super Tuscan 2001. An odd showing for this wine, but think it needs a lot more time in the cellar.

2017 Heritage Blind Wine Challenge (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. This showed an incredibly dense black fruited-character, as well as a bit of bell pepper that was unmistakably a cabernet blend. The fruit here was luscious, rich, and concentrated, and I gravitated towards the Napa Valley for this one on that profile. Of course, this wasn't an over-the-top joke wine -- serious, classic Napa cabernet. Running through some riper vintages, I eventually settled on 1994 -- this bottle didn't taste quite as fresh. As far as producers, I pulled one out of a hat and guessed Heitz Martha's.

Grand Cru Cabernet (pyrmont wharf, sydney): Ripe, slightly stewed blackcurrant and cassis, savoury, meaty but with time the fruit heightens and grows in the glass. Medium plus body, juicy acidity, savoury blackcurrant carries exceedingly long, balanced,. Still young. Appalling to show as a pop and pour.

A solid Bordeaux starting to drink well. It was good, but not really exciting, and for the price of 370$ in the restaurant, I would not order it again.
The last of my 3 bottles purchased as part of a mixed Grand Cru case. Drunk to assess when to break into my OWC dozen. As per earlier note extremely elegant with crunchy fruit of (principally) juicy plum and hints of dark berries. Still slightly furry (cedar) and at first sight rather simple if concentrated. In a closed up phase? Nonetheless drinks nicely now but in my view, with this tight suppressed core, will blossom at 20-25 years and last 40 years at least (from vintage) on an evolving plateau. Potentially a great wine. Won't open my OWC until 2020 at the earliest. 92++?+

Deep garnet/ruby colour. Classic Bordeaux nose, floral with spice, plenty of red fruit, berries, saddle leather and forest floor. Lovely smooth, silky mouthfeel, with complexity and structure, but beguiling delicacy and sweetness. Tannins fully integrated, and a long, long finish. So much better than the '82 (which has been the only disappointing wine from that vintage I have tasted so far !). These 2000s are really shaping up beautifully. Wish I had bought more en primeur.

Magnificent, magnificent wine we shared with friends at their delightful Manhattan apartment over an excellent home prepared feast. Might be our all time Margaux favorite. First one we have opened, and thrilled we have five more. This probably can go another 25 years. If you have several, open this on a special night, or make a night special by opening with friends. If you only have one, it's your dilemma as to when, but there are no bad answers here.

So uniform and consistent. Internally unfurled. Like a tasty planet with a molten core. A coffee based persona with a tantalizing multi-dimensional multi fruited bouquet. Expands and contracts as it slowly fades into something both sparse and richly bitter.

Read into that what you will. But it's in the past so now I will try Palmer.
Setting the context, Ive just had some amazingly aged Latour's. This is bigger and fruitier. No hard edges or inhospitable tannins. Certainly enjoyable, but .... hmm ... simple. Mono dimensional.
For the price and style Aus has much better wines.
Château Palmer Vertical: Very good nose already, rich and opulent currant and cherry fruit, beginning to give a bit of that 'damp forest on a hot day' type feel. Good balance on the palate with dense black currant, rhubarb, and chocolate covered cherries on the palate. The most exciting of the '00 flight. Would buy this over any of the younger.

A typical 2000 and a typical Palmer. The two seem contradictory yet somehow coexist. Complex but restrained mocha, blackcurrant and cedar nose. Very, very soft with food. Yet there's plenty of tannin and some of the 2000 bitter astringency on the huge finish. Good now, with food; I'll wait at least 3 years before opening another.

The 2000 Challenge (Le Petit Sommelier): The nose is full ripe, high intensity, black currant, black berry and cherry, plum, vanilla, nutmeg, light toasted oak, subtle underlying complexity, it just feels so young and therefore reserved. Needs some time to lost the funk
The wine has full body and intensity, hgih acidity and big tannins, great structure, chocolate, full ripe black fruit with a finish so long and purely fruity that just seems to still be an infant.
Outstanding quality, too young.
This was the most controversial wine of them all. It was so closed and needed the most time to open up in the glass but you could just feel the thickness of the fruit and sheer complexity of the wine, so pure and so Bordeaux like. Add the price of the bottle and most of the guys voted for either Cos d'Estournel or Sassicaia. Wine of the night for me though

Terrific bouquet of dark red cherry, ground coffee, red cedar, and damp earth. A touch hot right now with big tannin. Huge dose of cranberry and currant fruit on the palate with nice meaty and coffee notes as well. More red cedar. Big but already drinking quite beautifully. Didn't really scream Margaux, no violates or white flowers, guessed St. Julien.

A Margaux & Pauillac tasting (Wine Watch, Fort Lauderdale, Florida): Similar to last bottle enjoyed a few months ago. This is a great Palmer, but like the ’95 Margaux, so far from its potential. Blackberry, raspberry, lots of violets, and mocha. Concentrated and tannic. My first note I wrote tonight was, ‘tons of potential.’ Cellar this baby for at least 5 more years.

Annual Comparative Bordeaux Tasting (2000/2005) (Chicago, IL): In comparison to Margaux (the Chateau, not the appellation), the Palmer was noticeably bigger, broader, and buffer. There were more pepper notes on the nose, although the same red fruit can be found on this wine. The tannic structure is more exposed and prominent here, and the red fruit of the Margaux dials back a bit here to expose a bit more of an austere character.

To me, this wine is a better expression of the softness and femininity of Margaux than the grand vin in 2000...With beautiful balance, this wine tickles the senses with floral cuteness and teases all the senses as it remains in the nose, mouth, and head. If you have a friend you love, and you want them to know why people are happily parting with good money for French wine, please open a bottle of this. Cedar, blooming white flower bouquet, and hints of tobacco are the main messages of this great wine. Drink or Hold, but WOW!

Not as concentrated of a nose as the '99, showing less fruit but more leather and menthol. A bit astringent and not showing well. I suspect this was either not caught in a good moment or was not a representative bottle.

Wine Tasted at Acker Auction (Riverpark - New York, NY): Small taste at the end of the evening. Ripe and dense plum aromas with some liqueur, all showing great promise and potential. similar on palate, I like the concentration and density here, but didn't get lots of pleasure in the glass. Not as enjoyable today as the 1999 tasted earlier, but this has more long-term potential, probably best 2020-2050.

As always, Palmer delivers with a great wine. Still dark violet in color. Needed 3 hour decant to open up for business. Plum, blackberry, violets, tobacco, and earthiness. Dense, concentrated, and full-bodied. Still somewhat tight and tannic. Long finish. Needs a few more years, but this should evolve into a great wine.

This is a very big, ripe vintage for Palmer but the wine is also balanced with ultra-smooth tannins. Thickly-textured with great flavors of dark berries, cassis, smoke and sweet Margaux earth. Drinking beautifully already but should clearly develop more secondary flavors in the next 10 years. I really like having a case of this in the cellar. Tasted blind at North, Armonk, NY 94+

Ruby in color, truffle, Asian spice, cedar wood, forest floor, tobacco and mineral scents open to a lush, sensuous, plush wine. Rich in texture, concentrated with flavor, this is all about purity, silk and velvet sensations and a long, opulent, plush finish. The wine was made from an unusual blend for Palmer using 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot. The harvest took place from September 21 to October 7.

Deep ruby, nose of cassis, black currant, some leather and cedar and typical Margaux floral note. Intense in mouth with concentration of sweet fruit while maintaining elegant acidity. Medium complexity here if there is a longer finish this could be 5 stars! Llively now but will keep. 99 is less concentrated but more finesse.

Classic cherry licorice raspberry mineral flavours of the august Chateau with a fresh bouquet in glass that's intoxicating yet belies the wine is still young. It can be laid down a further 2 to 3 years to open up more and develop that classic Palmer profile. Intense ruby red. Out of bottle 60 mins.

Intended deliberate infanticide that wasn't - much to my surprise. 90 minute decant; nose of ripe plum with dark berry fruit nuances. Hints of smoke, liquorice and truffle. The fruit aromas continue into the flavour in a very dense and ripe fashion with a firm but not overbearing tannic grip - the only indicator that this wine may well have more to offer with time. Long and already showing some complexity. Excellent and well mature enough to drink now - but with hope and some expectation of even greater things as it matures further over the next 10-15+ years. 14 bottles to go - look forward to reporting progress over the next decade or two.

2000 Bordeaux Left Bank, With Richard Brazier (Handford Wines, London): This is the second time we have this in a year and once again the wine was muted, closed and buttoned down. The fruit is showing better this time with good ripe dark fruits, has a nice balance and the tannin although big is not hard. Just a shame the wine is so closed. This needs a good 10 years it feels before opening. Lots of hope for the future here, however now it's no more than an 89 ( 53% cab Sauv)

Hardly any sign of age in terms of colour. Slightly shy nose compared to Ch. Lascombes, flowery, forest notes, tobacco, red fruit. Good acidity, sweet fruit, dark chocolate. Great length and structure, but backward and not very approachable at this stage. Lots of potential. 91-93+.

This was tasted in a Palmer vertical lineup including the: 1970 (corked), 1975, 1983, 1995, 1999 and this 2000. For me, the 1983 was the wine of the event, followed closely by this 2000. This is a huge and fairly masculine Palmer. Though many have compared the 1999 to the 2000, on this night it was clear that the 2000 was a lot more wine than the 1999 (I do agree though, that they show a family resemblance, but the 1999 is and always will be "little brother" to the 2000). Good tannic structure, and big size for a Palmer, but manages to retain the Palmer grace. The 1999 is perhaps a little too graceful/soft and lacking in impact. Great fruit and showing young, this one. Drinks well now, but will hold for decades.

MNF Dinner at Tommy's (Vancouver, BC): Ripest nose yet with almost a right-bank profile. Masculine on the palate with quite a bit of ripe tannins and balancing acidity. Lots of rich fruit here but there is plenty of structure to keep everything in-check. This and the '99 showed quite a bit of family resemblance. Young, rich and full, this 2000 Palmer needs a decade or more to reveal its true potential. Excellent. 91+

Nose was very closed on this wine when we begun tasting, but it came along really nice during the evening. Cassis and bright fruity cherries, with smoky oak showing. Inky black cherry color. This needed several hours of air for most of the initial funk to give way to a subtle mix of perfume, red fruits and oak. Dramatic concentration of dark cherry on the palate, thinned by a little heat, with bold tannins that clamp down on the finish. This really isn't showing enough development to be a candidate for great drinking in the short term. It has the potential to be classic in 8 to 12 years, but I have a bit of doubt about the alcohol remaining in check, at least for my palate. 13% abv

Tobacco, truffle, fresh picked blackberries, flowers and cedar chest aromas created the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is filled with soft, sensuous, ripe, sweet berries. The wine is long, fresh, vibrant and youthful. Due to its opulent style, if you like your wines young, pop a cork. If you prefer more earthy, secondary notes with most or all of the tannins resolved, wait another decade. This bottle was not decanted. I imagine it would have shown better with some air before serving.

Absolutely gorgeous claret, drunk with roast beef and roast potatoes. Deep, deep ruby red/black, with the classic aromas of black fruits, smoke, tobacco and leather. On the palate already beautifully integrated, with the tanins present but not obtrusive. Spice, licorice, balance, and a long, long finish. Has enough structure and acid to go a lot further. Fortunately, this was the first bottle of a full case!

Second Palmer ('04) that I scored below group. If you would have told me before our monthly group tasting I would prefer the modernly styled Lascombes over Palmer, I would have not believed it. That said, the '00 Palmer does have a stellar nose, with great notes of currant, plums, anise, chocolate. The palate had a strong red fruit profile with leather/tobacco, but one that was more one dimensional with unpolished tannins, especially when contrasted against the '00 Gruaud. Went back at the end of the evening for another look with no improvement. Thus placed as #4 despite the terrific nose.

And lost. We decanted for 1 hour but it did little to help the wine develop. Don't get us wrong this is not a bad wine but with every sip u can't help but imagine the potential of a future tasting. Absolutely intoxicating bouquet. In the mouth this a heady fusion of ripe, dripping dark fruit with elegant, silky tannins. The balance is stunning, and the finish is so long and polished. Late Feb 2012, Chateau Palmer tasting at the Rheingau Gourmet Festival: bottle opened approx. 3 hours before tasting, bottle to bottle decanted (sommelier information); deep purple red color; weak red fruits, stronger vanilla and coffee aromas/flavors; went down very well; light/medium body; only slightly tanninic; round, surprisingly light texture. 91-92 points.
Given that 2000 was one of the best vintages in recent years this Palmer bottle was surprisingly light weighted, open and approachable. Expected this wine much heavier and closed. Definitely a good reason to retaste and to re-evaluate my opinion.

My first Palmer and what a debut!! Decanted 2 hours. Paired with cote de boeuf on "boys night out". Tastes up against its little brother Alter Ego 2000 - slightly darker color, obviously the flavor profile is very much alike. Dark cherries/currant and plums, pencil shavings, dark chocolate and leather - incredible balance, density and structure and the finish goes on for minutes with no sharp edges whatsoever!! This is an amazing wine - the boys gave it a very respectful nod - can't wait to try it again! 95+

Palmer Vertical (Boka): Bold while still offering characteristic femininity. Berry and chocolate notes. Fine tannins. Just great balance despite its youth. Lot of resemblance to the '89. Gorgeous wine.

Chateau Palmer Dinner (Boka - Chicago IL): Alluring floral aromas with lush, ripe black currant and plum with some kirsch and spice in background. Same great fruit on the palate with incredible density and power on finish. Amazing spice coming through already. Some in the room like this 2000 over the 1989 in the same flight, I preferred the 1989 but think that in another 10-15 years the 2000 might be at the level where the 1989 is today, perhaps even better. I look forward to the comparison once again!

Amazing. Needs 15-20 more years if you ask me. This wine was actually very woody compared to the other wines I had in the evening. But there was so much fruit that my mouth was in heaven with the clear taste of Margaux.

With a head turning perfume filled with fresh picked flowers, licorice, smoke, blackberry liqueur, tobacco, slate and cocoa, this powerful vintage for Palmer offers a lush, tannic, rich wine. Opulent in texture, the wine ends with layers of sweet, ripe, spicy, velvet drenched dark berries. 5-10 more years is going add a lot of complexity to this already beautiful wine.

Beautiful! Drank alongside with 99'. 00' has more to show - expressive violets, raspberries, flowers on the nose. Dark ruby color and thick texture. Power on crescendo with great balance throughout. 40 sec + finish. Should drink even better in a few years. Wish I have more.

Second fave of night. Teeth smacking awesome. Thick, chewy. Lots of big black fruit. Balck cherry, black berry, plum. Some licorice in the background. Very complex but very accessible. 1.5 hour decant. This will be a beauty in a decade.

Wineterfest 2011: Wine of the night. This is definitely still a baby though. decanted for about 2 hours before serving, and it evolved tremendously through the 90 minutes we were drinking it. Dark purple / garnet in color. nose was quite tight at the outset, with cassis. Flavors of cassis, chocolate, touch of burnt wood and a hint of saddle leather. Beautiful structure and lots of tannins at this point. This wine opened up throughout the night and kept changing. This seems to be one that has another 10-15 years +, during which it will continue to evolve and pick up secondary flavors.
5 firsts, 1 second, 1 third.

What an utterly beautiful wine. Impressions similar to all those written by Dream below. Although it has a lot of evolution in front of it this is one of those wines whose purity of expression can well be enjoyed now in its current youthful vigour and freshness.

Very dark ruby color. What a phenomenal nose on this wine with notes of grilled nuts, violets and cassis. This is a gorgeous Palmer and should ultimately rank with the best they've produced in my opinion but it is several years away from maturity. What strikes me about this normally restrained Margaux in this vintage is the fabulous ripeness of the cassis and dark red berry fruit. Finishes with ultra-fine tannins and hints of the complexity to come. An exotic, rich Palmer that is lovely to drink now but yet to show any secondary flavor development. I think this will be incredible 10-15 years from now. 94+

95 - Dark crimson, nose classic Margaux profile of black fruits, candied violets and cedar . Touch of spice and chocolate ie complex but tending to Cabernet dominance. Palate remained closed and structured consistent with Cabernet comments. Velvety tannins. Still very young and I agree with comments that RPs recent review differs from my experience tonight. Overall classic young Palmer to be left another 3-5 years.

Decanted for 2 hours. Tight reticent unforthcoming. RP and other enthusiasts must have vivid imaginations. Ellen who is a hypertaster could not discern any of the characteritics that he and CTers discerned.I cant give a wine I wouldn't buy again a 90 so the most I can give this allegedly mature 2000 Margaux/Bordeaux is an 89.

2000 Bordeaux, 1999 Pierre Morlet (Porto Leggero): Good golly this was fantastic. Big, expressive nose. Dark fruit. Slight alcohol on the back of the nose that blew off. Fantastic right out of the glass. Blackberries and dark sweet fruit. Like all of these wines, they need more time but this gave the most pleasure tonight. My wine of the night.

Palmer Vertical with Thomas Duroux (La Plume, Jefferson Hotel, Washington DC): Surprisingly far more accessible than I thought it would be, having been stymied by several massive 2000s recently. The wine lacks the foreboding presence and acidity driven brightness of the 2005, but it is imminently more pleasurable. Kirsch, berries and dark cherries explode out of the glass in a wonderfully balanced expression of Margaux. Simply a pleasure to drink, this wine is just starting to shake some of its austerity and should only continue to improve. I see it like a more advanced 2005 with less brightness and less upside. Others found it to be splendid- a "rockstar". Hard to split hairs at this point.96-97.

What can I say ? The very warm welcome and great full course lunch at the Chateau and New Year Greeting's sent to me from the Chateau's manager.
How can I refuse ? I used to love Palmer very much. At lunch, 2 bottle each of 1987 and 1988, that's lovely but the 1995 in the evening is too dry and too strong for me.
So I have to say that I don't like Palmer in top vintage. Maybe it's very good in next 25 years because the 1983 ( testing in 2004 ) is still harmful to me.
The 1980 ( testing in 2007 ) is a bit too old but nice.
Dinner at Ember (Ember, Bangkok): Very nice deep ruby red color. The nose of Palmer always very attractive and sexy. Full-bodied with lots of cassis, light mints.

Notes: Lots of legs, ripe purple / ruby color. That's all I've got, other than it was my #3 of 3 Palmer's in the first flight. I'm really starting to wonder if I caught these 2000's at the wrong stage of their lives based on the other reviews and supposed great 2000 vintage. The wine had an hour or so in the glass, but I can't say if I went back to it later in the day. I don't have reason to question the provenance of the wines. I heard no negative comments concerning the 2000 or any of the wines for that matter, but of the dozen or so of us at the tasting I don't recall anyone choosing it as their YOTD.

Chateau Palmer Dinner, Dallas, TX (Lavendou Bistro Provencal): It was immediately apparent that this wine had multilayered color – almost a falu red with a hint of carmine – deeper colors than most of the wines tonight. Initially, very complex aromas that were somewhat difficult to describe – perhaps dusty layered with red fruit? Many at our table thought this wine was closed down, and perhaps upon the initial tasting it was. But over 30 minutes it started to exhibit more amazing aromas – some floral characteristics, licorice, dusty red currants and black raspberries. Great wine, with the potential to become even better. My WOTN 94-97

The 2000 Palmer is very primary and shuting down. This is a great wine and nice to drink to peer into the future but drinking another before ten years would not be worth it. Wonderful fruit and concentration. Very well balanced with a solid taninic structure. Great mid palate depth of fruit. This will be a great Palmer in time.

Dark red colour with dense looking core. Prunes, tobacco and oak on the nose. In the mouth the wine is medium bodied, quite tight and un-yielding, and with a nice degree of structure. Seems a tad narrow in width, and somewhat lacking in fruit concentration. The aftertaste was medium-long, but there not was much charm to this wine - let alone elegance and complexity. A disappointment.

Medium garnet with no browning at the rim.

Double decanted for a good 2 hours and definitely the wine needs this to open up and also we would urge caution as the wine has a lot of fine sediment,
Still very much a young wine and easily has another 10yrs before it hits peak.

Tasting note:
Intense, ripe and precise aroma profile, fruit forward and rather extracted.

Superb!

This wine had a deep crimson colour and showed a beautiful nose of blackcurrant, blueberry, dark cherry, violets and cedar.

I once had an evil alter ego experience.

There were more pepper notes on the nose, although the same red fruit can be found on this wine. The tannic structure is more exposed and prominent here, and the red fruit of the Margaux dials back a bit here to expose a bit more of an austere character.

If you have a friend you love, and you want them to know why people are happily parting with good money for French wine, please open a bottle of this.

BWC - BDX - St Julien and Margaux (Scenic Loop Cafe): Decanted an hr ahead. Nose a little shy, but loaded with berries, currants and cassis and hints of vanilla. Polished lush palate, liquor-like red fruits but still has a great backbone. Impressive concentration and depth and very young as it came across as rather primary still. Long finish. Still showing it’s oak and a little hard to get a read on, but looks like it’s going to be fantastic. My WOTN.

"The Dinner" Featuring Six Bordeaux Luminaries (Ann Colgin's and Joe Wender's Home): Dark ruby color. Closed nose with a hint of black currant. Tastes of blackberry, currant, bell pepper, cedar, and earth. Very tannic. Tough as nails right now. Rich powerful finish that is dominated with charred oak. Completely colosed down right now. Needs 5-10 years to come around. If you drink now, decant for 24 hours.

And lost. We decanted for 1 hour but it did little to help the wine develop. Don't get us wrong this is not a bad wine but with every sip u can't help but imagine the potential of a future tasting. For the moment the nose is the highlight as the tannins on the palate remain firm and chewy. Please please wait another 5 years at minimum.

Absolutely intoxicating bouquet. In the mouth this a heady fusion of ripe, dripping dark fruit with elegant, silky tannins. The balance is stunning, and the finish is so long and polished. Very enjoyable at present, yet the wine is obviously a youngster...scary to imagine how good this will be in 10 - 15 years.

Palate remained closed and structured consistent with Cabernet comments. Velvety tannins. Still very young and I agree with comments that RPs recent review differs from my experience tonight. Overall classic young Palmer to be left another 3-5 years.

Ellen who is a hypertaster could not discern any of the characteritics that he and CTers discerned.I cant give a wine I wouldn't buy again a 90 so the most I can give this allegedly mature 2000 Margaux/Bordeaux is an 89.

The 1980 ( testing in 2007 ) is a bit too old but nice.
.............................................The 2000..............................................

Drink 2015 - 2030
............................................The 1999 ..............................................
Almost as same as 2000, more easy delicious and young. ( testing 2 times )
