An evening of Rhone (Ponte Vedre Club): Young and very fresh and almost a hint green in style although I do mean that in a good way. It's a bit reticent and while it opened through the night it never quite got to where the 2006 did in terms of brightness. I think it's a years thing. This was also around the time of the handover from old to new ownership I think. A classic style of wine that we enjoyed.

Clear medium lemon. On the nose, golden apple, young peach, cinnamon spice, musk, jasmine, osmanthus, buttery oak. Medium+ acidity, full body, pronounced intensity of peach, white flowers, pungent spice, apple, oak. Medium+ floral finish. Bigger on the palate than the nose, which feels like it is still developing. A serious wine that calls for due attention, although I am not sure it is worth the typical asking prices these days.

BYO Litteraturhuset (Litteraturhuset i Oslo): Lys gyllen med grønnskjær. Gule sitrustoner (mandarin, klementin), hint av bivoks og lanolin. God fylde i anslaget, veldig konsentrert, rik stil.

[Blind] At first this is pretty indistinguishable from the Vernay Condrieu to me, but I have very little experience with white Rhone. Maybe just a hint darker in colour here. Nose is smoky and waxy. Exotic spice, coriander, cumin. Palate is similarly dry and pithy. Almost bitter. Uniquely striking / coating on the back palate. Interesting to try.

Absolutely stunning 10 yo Condrieu, after extended ageing in my cellar. PnP. Light/pale yellow. Usual subtle white flower/honeysuckle nose once it shook some of the opening oakiness in the first 15’. Mouthfeel of a much younger equivalent - 5 years perhaps- still has long acidity. Similar in style to Gangloff and Vernay Vernon. Very very good

Light to medium yellow; mineral nose, chalky while also creamy; very rounded, supported with very nice acidity, long long aftertaste, white ripe pear, glycerin, quite powerful white; seems right in its drinking window, a remarkable wine

This was pretty special. Medium to full bodied, with melon and apricots, with a deep underlying minerality. Not subtle, but perfectly balanced and a delight to drink.

Dinner at Pizzeria Bebu (Chicago, IL): Fairly muted nose. The palate is definitely more interesting here, with lots of weight and a little bit of waxiness. Seems a bit heady, but as far as viognier goes, there's quite a lot of acidity to keep it in check. With air, the fruit got fatter and sweeter, while the waxiness and acidity didn't seem to change relative to each other. But at the end of the day, this is a good wine but it's certainly not worth the (now) very high tariff, at least to me. Perhaps it is still more a piece of vinous trivia...

Rhone Admissions (Vaucluse): First time with this wine and what a treat. I didn't realize it was possible to get so much acidity into a viognier. This is light and elegant and fresh. Lots of honeysuckle. Paired quite nicely with a crab and caviar dish. A nice kick-off to the night.

Nose is mild with lemon/orange zest, peach, honey, apricot, floral, vanilla. The palate is much more powerful than the nose, rich and hot. This wine really need a lot of air to open, it is more pronounced on the second day. I think it might be in the shutdown period. I will keep the rest bottles for at least 10 years.

Deep lemon green, exotic fruits, flowers, peaches over layers of minerals, unexpected on the palate with full body, a bit oily and soapy, high alcohol bit also high acidity. A great wine probably needs 5more years to develop. Very nice

A field of white daisies , lilies and magnolias doused with honeysuckle and spiced orange clove concentrate. Orange blossoms fruited , this last long but lesser acidity.

Good introduction to Grillet! Obviously more structured and complex than most Condrieu - has a more restrained and mineral driven style but with great intensity of fruit (although not overblown or flabby as can be the case with Vioginer) - feels like an old world version of Condrieu. I suspect this will age well. I thought this was very good - I would not hesitate to buy again (even with the expensive price tag) for the interest if not the quality. This would intrigue most Rhone tasters - interesting!

Aromas of fruit cake, marsipan and butter malt. Fat and full bodied with low acidity, but also elegant. Concentrated, with a long aftertaste.

Elegant but not very complex. Limited notes of pear and flower wrapped into a overall balanced body.
