Nice red fruit nose with oak barrel notes as well. Smooth and creamy cherry/raspberry fruit greets you up front and lingers nicely on a medium long finish, but not much else is there as no secondary elements are present in this wine, fairly one note, but a delicious one. As the back label says, best enjoyed 4-5 years after bottling in 2012, which is now. Drink up soon for best enjoyment.

Cherry and other dark berries, Fruit forward but not overly "fruity." A touch of red cherry licorice makes this a real easy drinker. Not overly complex but a super easy drinker w/ or w/o food. 90-92

Fantastic value for money Zin that has a lot of zing. There is a cherry and blackberry dominated palate that is vibrant with lots of minerality beneath. This has a lot of texture and lovely acidity to compliment the fruit. Unmistakably Ridge, but pays a bit of homage to Italian Primitivo. Lovely with pasta.

Blackberry, eucalyptus, vanilla nose. Flavors follow suit with more blackberry, sour cherry, some pepper leading into a medium finish featuring dark berries. Medium bodied with drying tannins and low-medium acidity.

In the glass the wine is a dark plum color with a concentrated darker core but some translucency. The initial nose on the wine is of dark fruits, black berry, dark cherry, some vanilla and the earth notes of pepper, spice, light cloves and leather. On the palate the wine coats your mouth with the heavier Zin giving you dark fruits some nice spice notes and med plus tannins. The wine also has a long finish, lasting in your mouth a while. In short this is a big bold but smooth wine with great complexity of the multiple varietals.

Pnp and poured through a vinturri. Medium-dark ruby-purple in colour; nose of dusty(like an old attic dusty) red and blue fruits with some ripe and dark strawberry jam. Palate's got some tarty black licorice and blackberry jam; a tad hot at the end and has a nice medium finish to it; tannins are held in check.

Lovely jammy nose, still a bit purple, blue and black fruit on the nose with sweet tobacco and herby eucalyptus. Vanilla, blueberry cobbler and a bit of strawberry jam. At 13.8% alcohol, smooth and integrated. Not hot. Good with food.

Eye:Purple- Violet color Nose: Plums, Raspberry Jam, pepper and mint Palate: Pepper, jammy, firm tannins, alcohol spot on at under 14% surprisingly with a med+ finish.

Bright dark ruby. Dark berry aroma and flavors. Some tannins come through on the finish and with air time. Initial attractiveness with some depth at the back, but I tend to think this should be drunk within the next 2-3 years while the fruit is dominant. Has good balance and interest.

First time we've tried this Ridge wine. Curious to compare versus Geyserville and East Bench (also have not tried), but we plan to give these bottles some age. For the Three Valleys, certain of the other recent CT comments are pretty accurate: Earthy/dusty on the nose; tart with a somewhat subdued zesty-ness on the palate with low to moderate tannins and a medium finish. Very enjoyable. Drinking well and a good QPR. 88+

My first Ridge, and boy this is different. This took over an hr to open, so be sure to give this one some time after you open up. Somewhat dry, tannic, and lean with hints of fruit. I wouldn't have guessed zin in a blind tasting - much more subdued, and only 13.8% ABV. However, this is food friendly and paired well with a chicken dinner.

Purchased 6 bottles based on excellent price and Ridge reputation. The first was opened shortly after shipping and was not very good. Should remember that wines need to get use to your house before opening. The second was markedly better, but I discovered that the wine really is best at room temp. The third bottle which this review is based on, shows excellent aromas and flavors. You can still discern the individual varietals, but they work nicely together. Drinking good now and should improve over the next few years.

No notes taken. This is the most rustic of the Ridge reds I have tasted. Deep red, prunes and dark cherries, cocoa. Balanced, medium(+) body, good length with savoury finish. Had it with home made pizza, and this rustic combination worked excellent. QPR high.

Shows Ridge's trademark restraint in an open-knit style. Fruity and savory, with pleasant blackberry, briar, cocoa, herb, and black pepper aromas. It's lean and composed, well structured, offering a core of black and red fruit flavors that are complemented by a kiss of oak spice. I can see this developing secondary nuances with bottle age.

I decanted this and have to disagree with the popular sentiment here. Primarily Zinfandel, this bursts onto the palate with tart raspberry, strawberry, and brambly bush and herb. There's a wet-fur quality on the nose, for me at this point, and dark brooding quality on the mid-palate, however short-lived. Heat showing through on the nose and the backend. Bright and medium-full bodied. Medium acid. Nice neutral oak influence.

Tasted over two days. When first opened, was quite oaky, tight, and unyielding. After an hour or so of air, it opened up a bit was still not very enjoyable. Vacuvin'd and tried the next evening. At this point, was much better with the oak integrating a bit and the wine opening up much better. I can see where the other notes are knocking this, but I thought it showed good balance, some interesting and pleasant fruit, and a hint of earthiness. Still a bit on the oaky side at this point for me.

I was a little dissappointed with this wine at first sip. I was expecting something fairly close to the Geyservilles I've loved so much. This was many steps down from the Geyserville. But, when I look at this wine on its own without comparing it to it's other Ridge stablemates, it stands up as a decent wine. I got overripe red fruits (strawberry), and elderberry syrup. the wine lacked structure overall, and didn't really develop anything new with time in the glass. Not bad by any stretch, but a bit dissappointing.

California Wine Fair - Toronto, ON (Fairmont Royal York): While I'm usually a Ridge fan, I'm not sold on this bottling. On the nose: caramel, vanilla oak, mixed red blue and black berries, soil. Pretty basic entry level stuff. Palate is nicely balanced with optimal fruit ripeness. Short finish. A touch oaky overall.

An immediate-drinking ridge offering. Red and dark fruit with a classic Zin nose. Wouldn't have guessed how much Petite Sirah was in this given how light the mouthfeel was. Fairly long finish. A little light on the acidity. A good QPR for a light but well-above-average field blend.

Meant for immediate consumption; decanting is not necessary. The nose mixes herbs and fruit. Though unheavy, the body is sufficient for lighter-fat red meats. Dark fruit dominates on the palate until the medium length dry finish. Recommended with food when a nice meal is not quite nice enough to pull something better from the cellar.

Rosewood color with magenta rim. Nose of cocoa and tart berries. On the palate this is very light-bodied and disappears quickly. I was expecting a brawny Zinfandel with characteristic rusticity, but this was lightweight and forgettable. Okay as a simple sipper to wash down dinner, but far from the best that this vintner can achieve.

A bit simpler and lighter than the Geyserville, but pretty much in the same vein. Translucent purple color, strong aroma of blackberry. Medium body on the palate with strong berry fruit and hints of coffee and chocolate on the finish. Light tannins in the end.

Medium purple, fast-moving legs @13.5%abv. Medium(-) developing aromas of red and dark cherries, dried plum/prunes, coffee or caramel. Dry, medium(-)-medium acidity, medium(-) ripe soft, slightly dry tannin, medium(+) body and alcohol. Medium(+) fruit-driven flavors of ripe red and black cherries, black plums with a bit of leather, tobacco. Tannin and acidity beautifully complement the fresh fruit flavors giving this wine significance, firm almost chewy texture. Good length and uplifting finish leaving you wanting another swig. With grilled meat, BBQ etc.

65/20/9/3/2/1 Zinfandel/Petite Sirah/Carignan/Mataro/Alicante Bouschet/Grenache. Medium nose shows raspberry, not terribly aromatic. Palate is lighter than most Ridge, smooth, red fruit, light earthy fresh dryness in the medium tannins. Acidity is nice.

Crimson color. Purple fruit and vanilla on the nose; round palate - plum, black cherry and warm oak dominant. Fruit forward, like most Ridge. Good value, but agree that there are better in the Ridge line. Consistent three days later.

Uninspiring. While this isn't a fruit-bomb Zin (good), the aromatics are attenuated and there's no depth on the palate. Simple nose of tart cherries with underlying dried fruit. The palate is balanced, starting with a burst of acidity and finishing with mild tannins. Has a bit of a sweet & sour character with pruney flavors mixing with upfront acidity. Short finish. I like the style, but the execution (at least in this lot or vintage) is lacking.

At Gary's Grand Tasting. First experience with this Ridge. Had been opened about an hour, was still a little tight.
Ripe red fruit balanced by some earthy minerals. Good fruit and QPR. Full body and aromoatic. In low yield years like 11, this wine is one of the better vlaues, gets better fruit relative to bigger years

Medium-deep purple color with no bricking; nice spice on the nose, good fruit; palate has approachable tannins, good acidity that provides freshness, fantastic black fruit; medium finish. A good wine and good value for the price, nice balance, but doesn't necessarily have distinctive character or terroir to bring it to the next level. 89-90

I like this wine for its full body color, raw aromas, and bold yet balanced personality. Intense aromas of ripe dark cherry, dry spices, and hints of green stems but in good way. It has plenty of alcohol and body takes on port-like licorice that is very interesting. Finishes in pretty good harmony. Enjoy now or wait a few years. 90+

A touch oaky overall.

like this, sweet and easy to drink but not without character.

Red and juicy fruit, I would say it needs one year in the bottle.

Medium crimson color with black fruit and slight hints of vanilla on the nose. Medium to round palate - chewy in texture with notes of black fruit and black cherry. Good value as a lower end Ridge offering.

I like the style, but the execution (at least in this lot or vintage) is lacking.

lighter bodied, tart, and smokey as you'd expect from mostly zin. Agree with other postings that cite it being somewhat one dimensional.

hate to agree w/Parker, but this was a disappointment. Very one dimensional. First miss I've had with Ridge

Tight when first opened, but after an hour or two it really opened up and the fruit came to the front. Dark and smooth once it got going. A well made wine.

At Gary's Grand Tasting. First experience with this Ridge. Had been opened about an hour, was still a little tight.
Ripe red fruit balanced by some earthy minerals. Good fruit and QPR. Full body and aromoatic. In low yield years like 11, this wine is one of the better vlaues, gets better fruit relative to bigger years

rough and tight to start, smoothing out considerably over the course of the evening into a soft, easy-drinking table wine - had better for the price point
