I agree with Soyhead’s June 2022 review on this wine. My bottle also seemed advanced considering the age. It was the biggest “label” on the table but certainly didn’t deliver the goods tonight. Floral on the nose but flabby on the palate. Slightly disappointing.

Popped and poured. Better than the last bottle I had. This starts with floral and cut grass aromas. The wine is fresh and focused, with grapefruit, tropical fruit, grass and minerals flavors on the palate. Very impressive.

Casual dinner with French friends and some Maconnais/Chalonnaise wines, only brief impressions, this was a pirate. Discrete nose, not much aroma, some goose berry, cats pee funk, and citrus/grassy elements on the finish. Not singing at all for what is considered a top wine.

this bottle seemed advanced and not really representative of the varietal, though I was assured but others this is how it is supposed to be. Supposedly this would have been better decanted. to me i got a lot of mature apricot almost reminding me of semillon, with a heavy oily character as it were a white rhone. a puzzling wine which i let sit all night in the glass coming back to check on it. I dont think I ever really 'got it'.

Popped and poured. Restrained nose of cut grass and pomelo. The wine is very pure and restrained. Still not showing much age, this has grapefruit, tropical fruit and minerals showing through. This may be holding something back still but it’s not quite firing on all cylinders.

Popped and poured. Pretty nose of yellow fruit, grass and minerals. The wine is medium bodied with mouthwatering acidity, excellent minerality and a delicious kaleidoscope of flavor. This is at a stage of early maturity but it can continue to evolve for 5-10 years more

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium lemon-green colour, with wide watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus fruit of lime, green fruit of gooseberry, sweet spice of lemongrass, mineral notes of flint and stony, oak notes of toast, herbaceous notes of grass, maturity notes of hay. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium alcohol, with medium body and medium (+) intensity flavours of citrus fruit of lime, green fruit of gooseberry, oak notes of toast, herbaceous notes of grass, mineral notes of stony. The wine has a long finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Pouilly-Fume with an intense nose showing good complexity, with the signature varietal characters, elegant and robust on the range of aromas, in particular with good flinty and stony minerality. On the palate the good acidity is refreshing, with vibrancy and good concentration of flavours, as well as a very long finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 4-6 years.

Popped and poured. Crisp nose of grass clippings and pomelo. The wine is light golden, showing early signs of maturity but still has probably five to eight years to go. The palate has nice tension with strong acidity balanced by vibrant flavors of gooseberry, grapefruit and smoke. The wine is delicious but doesn’t have the depth and complexity of the best vintages of this. Perhaps that will come with time.

The first night this was good but not mind blowing- but the second night this finally showed what it’s all about. The judicious oak, the grapefruit, and the slightly musky aroma just exploded with grilled seafood- bar jack, red grouper, blackfin tuna, and royal red shrimp. I’ve been unfairly harsh with my tasting notes here- turns out I was drinking it far too young and not decanting it enough. I would recommend opening it and slow ox-ing it for up to a day of drinking it currently.

Boys' Long Lunch (Epure, 4/F, Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong): Light silver gold colour. Nose is very sharp Japanese grass, oyster shell, gunflint. Palate is very crisp and precise with an easygoing weight... white peaches , amazingly refreshing cucumber and lime, mounting resonance. Very elegant and assured.... very polished. Harmonious. Really impressive ... this is Sauvignon Blanc taken to another level.

Double blind tasting. Brief note. Nose and palate show tropical and orchard fruits, lemongrass, prominent new oak, and soft clay mineralité. Midpalate has good weight thanks to the baby fat from the oak and great cut from electric acidity. Finish is medium (+) with a savory grassy note coming through on the backend. Very nice.

Blind tasting wine dinner with French oenophiles with the theme: wines from not-so-common regions or varietals. Grassy nose pointing towards SauvBlanc right away. Fresh palate, good volume, minerals, less overtly grassy than NZ/Malborough with good complexity but not up there with the best German Rieslings or White Burgs, at least not this bottle.

Loire Valley (Pearl&Ash, NYC): Another unique sauvignon blanc. Some sweet oak on the nose. Silky textured, round, touch of chestnut, anjou pear. The oak is well integrated and adds sophistication, but there is more -- a unique soil imprint is front and center, adding the nutty flavors instead of the traditional zesty acidity. Very good.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 12/10/2015-12/12/2015 (Chicago, IL): I almost want to say that there's a bit of botrytis spice on the nose, but it's likely a potent herbaceousness instead. There's a nice waxiness to the palate, that smooths over the high acids. Very ripe, but the racy greenness keeps this true to form. I find this isn't as mineral as I'd like, but it's definitely a singular and amazing expression of sauvignon blanc.
Really good Sauvignon Blanc, nice, judicious use of oak, maybe time will turn this into something worth the price but the Papyrus font is screaming "noooooooooo!"
M&S 35th Anniversary (McCarthy & Schiering): Light yellow. Bright, focused, intense. Aromas a little muted (needed more air time - needed decanting). Should develop nicely down the road.
Really exceptional and my WOTN at the tasting event. Powerful yet at the same time smooth with saline, citrus, mineral and chalk and a very long finish.
Excellent and amazing Sauvignon Blanc - which like having an excellent and amazing 1988 Yugo to drive. The grape can only be so good and this about as good as it gets.
Arguably the best reason for Sauvignon Blanc to exist. Ripe pears and peaches on the nose and palate. Mineral and acid well-balanced. This lil lady will bloom into a well-structured, powerful yet elegant lady worthy of sipping by anyone on the planet. Awesome, albeit currently a touch young.

Year 2 - Super Tasting 5 of 5 - Greg does Loire (Greg's House - Kitchener, ON): There was a bit of sulphur when first popped bit this blew off and showed pineapple, lemon and mineral and then became very vegetal with broccoli, asparagus, and herbs. The palate was acid driven with cut grass, citrus flavours, minerals, cut herbs and cat pee. Finish is medium with good complexity....very grassy and herbaceous.
Year 2 - Super Tasting 5 of 5 - Greg does the Loire (Greg's House): (Tasted Blind, #5, Ringer in Sancerre Flight) Initially when opened this wine showed a touch of sulfur, but it blew off. Nose of weedy green notes: asparagus, broccoli, herbs, brown spice, citrus fruit and some tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango as well. The palate is in the more linear, high acid vein with a moderate length citric acid finish. I was a bit surprised to see this was Didier Dagueneau Silex as people speak very highly of this producer and although it showed well I'm not sure it stood out or would justify the far higher price tag than the others in the flight.

Very light yellow; steely nose with minerality; steely minerality, some intensity and density in aftertaste (quite long), cut, clean and fresh, lacking "real" taste / flavours

Similar to the last one. Definitely a nice bottle but seems kind of closed/not quite open yet. Real floral quality to it. Almost sticky in the middle. Grapefruit/citrus thing to it that was good and long.

First one of the bunch. Not a lot on the nose at first, seaweed maybe. Developed a floral note that I thought dominated the palate as well. Grapefruit-like but not a lot of fruit. Had expected more ripe fruit. Linear quality. Nice all the same.

Wow so tasty. Hints of yellow, throwing notes of fresh cut grass and spring flower. Mineral, flint, citrus - grapefruit, stone and pear. Everything is there and well composed. It doesn't get much better.

Slightly grassy, white flowers, herbal on the nose. Ripe fruit, creamy, gentle. Mineral and fresh, grippy, powerful, long. Will get better with more bottle age.
