Unlike some Ridge Zinfandels, this one is holding up quite well. Color is good, though starting to fade. Flavors are more mellow than dynamic. Typical of the Ridge style, the alcohol is a bit too high and the acidity a bit too low. A nice quaff but drink it soon. 78% Zinfandel, 22% Carignane.

Muted black cherry and blackberry fruit that became a little more prominent after decanting. Fair bit of earth and some dust. Medium acidity. Med- tannins. Finish a little short. May be a bit past its prime if you are looking for zinfandel fruit. 88-89.

We drink a lot of young Ridge so was fun to try this recent library release from the winery. Could definitely taste the age- same black fruits but now dried vs ripe and more dust and forest floor. Would have guessed a 10+ yo Chianti. Not much finish. Was probably at its peak 2-3 years ago but still very good.

This wine should be consumed this year or not later than next. I believe it has already reached its peak and is just beginning to slide. It is very well balanced now.

This has finally matured and is showing well. Easily one of the best Zins from these guys in a while--it just needed time to come together. Long finish, drink now or in the next couple of years but it shouldn't get much better than this if at all.

With Friday night home-made sausage pizza. Nice clean purple, good color. Lovely nose, clean, mellow, very pure. Fruit is apparent but hints at some complexity. Janie gets dark cherry. Smokey, raspberry, mouth-watering palate, plays nicely with the sausage/caramelized onion sour dough crust pizza. Dry but not austere. A pleasant companion.

Day-10: I opened this a couple weekends ago and forgot about it in the fridge. I thought I'd give it a try today and was pleasantly surprised. Med Ruby, slow forming clear legs on the appearance. Clean, med+ intensity, yogurt and sour cream hints, potpourri and smooth cherry juice on the nose. Dry, low+ acid, med tannins, full+ body, milk chocolate, blueberry syrup, prune juice and cassis on the palate. The finish was 24secs, slowly changing into a pleasant aftertaste. Overall a pretty good wine even after 10 days since opening. I don't think it was this good after just opening. I would pair this with pepperoni pizza or just drink on its own.

Mature berry fragrance with damp earth. Muted blueberry, blackberry jam, fig and raspberry on the palate. Very smooth, balanced, currently in middle age. Tannins fading. Good now. Don't wait much longer to drink.

Popped and poured. Dark crimson color. Nose of ripe red berry fruit, juicy plum, a touch of pepper and a definite dill and vanilla note from the American oak. Similar flavors on the palate with plum and raspberry flavors mixed in with the oak provides almost a clove flavor and a sweet and sour note on the finish. Medium acid and tannin, smooth and creamy mouthfeel and finish. Very enjoyable with food.

Didn't like it as much a few months ago, but more depth this time around...could be the food pairing? Interestingly, had garlic shoyu ramen with a kick of spice and the wine was great with it

With sweet and sour stew for 2, bread. Ruby, consistent to rim, medium depth. Jane gets a whiff of alcohol on the nose, I get a touch of yeast. Palate: almost (but not quite) sweet, plum, raspberry, light/moderate tannin, acid. Works very well with the stew.

Pretty is the way I would describe this wine. It has a beautiful nose of crunchy red fruits, subtle oak and floral scents. The wine is 22% carignane, which gives it a savory lift and cut on the palate and makes it a great food wine. The carignane also gives it a somewhat Old World personality. Not a big wine, but rich, classy and delicious.

Pop and pour. Was expecting this to be much bigger than it actually was. Felt like it was holding back and maybe a decant would get it going. Restrained flavor ended up being a fine pairing with dinner.

Aroma: alcoholic with notes of mushrooms, black berries, wet soil and wildflowers. Palate: fruity and primary with fresh red berries, plums and cranberries. Bright acidity. Green tannins appear on the moderately long finish. Drinkable now, but I'd prefer to wait a couple of years to mellow the tannin and develop more complexity.

78% zin; 22% carignane Ripe berry aromas with a hint of American oak, but then totally restrained, dry, yet rich on the palate. 14.1%, but drinks like 13 or 12.5. Quite refreshing to have zins in this style. The back label is informative (as usual) and suggests drinking by 2018, but the great balance suggests to me that this may age gracefully for much longer. (A '95 Lytton Springs last month was fantastic)

Drinkable zinfandel - should age longer to create more tertiary flavours but a good example of California from Ridge.
