  • Quite serious sippin’ wine. Rich, packed with fruit and tar. Prunes and above all, pepper. This is one to dwell on as the waves wash over you.

  • A year since my last outing with this vintage, and it's still a big and beautiful Barossa. Spicy blue fruit showing no sign of letdown drives across the palate with ample velocity and character. Wish I had some more in the cellar.

  • Alcohol and pepper on the nose leads into spice, blue fruits, and some oak. Stained tears correctly predict a full bodied palate that is smooth with interesting layers of blue and black fruit, a decent amount of acid and grip, and a surprising subtle orange flavor on the finish (as mentioned in another post.) If you like big reds from Barossa, this delivers the goods at a reasonable price.

  • Have not got used to the taste and really double if I got a fake bottle. Just like an industrial drink that normally found in supermarket in the first week. But in the second week it seemed to get better but still sweetish.

  • Medium ruby color. Aroma with blackberry, leather and smoke. Full body lots of fruit, blackberry, raspberry. Viscous mouthfeel. Acidic attack, medium-plus tannins on the mid palate and finish. Not much on complexity.

  • Agree with previous review. Drink up. Nose of salted carameel (which seemed weird, until I realised the back label referenced toffee!), ground coffee beans, spice, blue fruits and some oak. Palate is smooth and round in the front to mid, touch of orange-ish acidity on the close, but there is plenty of stewed red cherries, some blue berries and mulberries too, to prosecute the case. Hint of milk chocolate and old leather too. Good drinking now.

  • It's almost been 2 years since my last bottle. Popped and decanted for under 15 min. Poured into my glass and found overall this 2012 Wallace has nicely integrated and in a perfect place. Tannins are all resolved. What's left is a balanced tasty shiraz. Usual consistent notes of ripe juicy fruit, tar, blueberries, chocolate, peppers, vanilla and oak. We paired it with a greek style meat pizza plus baked spaghetti.

Been following Wallace for over a decade and this version is up there with the other great vintages. 2004 is still my favourite. Regardless, really enjoying the 2012 vintage from Barossa.

Would drink this one within the year to next year knowing how the Wallace peaks at around 4-5 years and declines after that. Enjoy now!

  • Explosivo em cassis e amoras sobre toques abaunilhados e apimentados que se confirmam em uma boca carnuda, com taninos salientes mas regidos pelo cório denso de uma fruta negra madura beirando o apelativo. Final longo e defumado. 90 GGP

  • This is a rich dark inviting wine with aromas of velvety fruit and earthy pepper. The taste features hues of dark chocolate with a classic structure.

  • Interesting QPR syrah, with a good expression of dark fruit, chocolate, and fervent spices. Secondary notes of cinnamon and lavender. Well structured and fair finish for this savory australian. 88

  • Retailer tasting (@ N in L): In the bouquet minerals and leather which reminds of Northern Rhone. On the palate very ripe red and dark forest fruits, also minerals and leather, some vanilla, good acidity and tannin. Not extremely complex, but certainly a very good wine in its very early drinking stage now. Might improve a bit with a few years of ageing. (2019 – 2020?)

  • Opened this screwcapped bottle and right away made a 'pop' sound with gas flowing quickly dissipating. Nose was fine, poured and right away noticed it was fizzy. Could also see white residue along the edge of the decanter. As if someone added club soda to the mix. Wonder if a second fermentation had occurred inside the bottle. Anyways, waited 30 min, the fizz subsided but knew it wasn't right. So returned and deemed it defective. First time I've encountered an issue like this.

Anyways second bottle of the night popped and this time, no issues. Decanted for 20 min and it was its usual self. Still tannic and young. Found it not as fresh and lively as my last bottle from a few months ago. Might be going through a shut down phase.

On Day 2, I tasted and this had really opened up with tar, blueberries, pepper, sweet red dark fruits. A Wallace I'm used to having.

Day 3 it was still solid with the same flavours and nose. Anyways interesting to see it evolve like this over 3 days. Will wait till year end or next year before opening the next bottle. Has a lot of time left.

  • Dark violet and clear in the glass. Dark berries, bacon, blood, vanilla, and campfire on the nose. Same on the palate with some darker coffee/chocolate undertones as well. Very concentrated and intense. Long, smooth finish which echoed the initial notes. Firm, and very well-balanced with respect to tannins, acid, alcohol, and fruit. 14.7% alcohol seemed appropriate for this wine. Very, very good bottle.

Usually, I am disappointed by "entry-level" wines from premier producers. Not the case here. I am looking forward to experiencing a higher-range Glaetzer, as the 2012 Wallace indicates that this wine maker has serious talent.

  • It's been 6 months since the last bottle. Similar to the last bottle in terms of nose (which is always lovely). The palette on this is in a better place. Everything seems more integrated. Traditionally I've found the Wallace gets good after 3 years of the vintage date. By early 2016, it'll be even better. Overall another tasty bottle. Better than 2006, on par with 2004. 2012 is indeed a great vintage for the Aussies. You can taste it all over this one. Refined and balanced and not a fruit bomb at all. 91-92 for me.

  • Tasted at Wine Advocat event - A matter of taste. Dark purple. Expressive nose of dark fruit with some dried fruit, wood and earth. Very fruity on the palate but with good structure and freshness at the same time. I also like the aromatics of this one. Modern for sure but not over the top (like the Amon Ra's so often are). Good value table wine.

  • Wow, huge 'fruit bomb' wine. Wonderfully cuts through an italian red sauce and, after 3 hrs of opening, is pleasant without food. Great Shiraz blend for the price, might appreciate better with ~3 years of cellaring. I enjoyed (and agree with) the other reviews. Cheers.

  • In the past, I've been following this wine extensively over the 2004 and 2006. After skipping 2007-2011, decided to give the highly anticipated 2012 vintage. I believe its on par with 2004. Definitely better than 2006. The nose was muted, but after 30 min of decanting started opening up to notes of nice red jammy fruits with cigar box.

The wine is balanced, slightly sweet, simple and is definitely a tasty food wine. Good finish with some red fruit, tea notes. Not getting the usual tar notes per usual Oz shiraz. Will appeal to many because its versatile and just a delicious wine. Not too complex at this point. Acidity is good and quality is solid. Not an overripe fruit bomb. 2004 is still one of my all time favs. This has a bright future ahead.

  • This is a fruit bomb but is absolutely fantastic with acidic foods. Cuts right through and stays fully with you sip after sip. Consistent quality as expected from glaetzer. Great value for the money.

  • {screwcap} Bright and fruity; mulberries and blueberries on the nose; sweetly-fruited on the palate. A touch of spice, little oak, fairly soft tannins; medium/full-bodied, with a medium length finish. Hearty red with some grenache sweetness adding to the richness. Decent.

  • Quite a personality: Reminds me of certain mushrooms - puffballs, perhaps, before they get puffy. Still on the fresh side, though, with a kind of liquorice coating, the bouquet was especiallt seductive but carried on to the palate too.

  • Warm sweet baked fruit, well built wine, all the components are there, just very concentrated and quite extracted. Overwhelmed the grilled lamb, should be good pairing for some heavy bbq or blue cheese. Not entirely my cup of tea, but a very good wine still.

  • Spice and fruit with good tannins long finish

  • Young wine, decanted for an hour. Deep, dark Barossa shiraz, full bodied fruit, plum is in there - very smooth in the finish. Nice now but a few more years will take this wine on.
