This blend of 92% Zinfandel, 8% Petite Sirah cast a sheen of plum on the rim and an opaque core of beef blood. While still a young, tight wine, the nose throws out brown sugar, black fruits, rosemary and some faint rhubarb. Yet on the nose the rhubarb is unmistakable and a brush of blackberry. Following all the Zin funk, rosemary and brown sugar is a finish of faint mocha. The mouthfeel is a touch acidic, the tannins hard and bitter. All in all a very one dimensional wine. 15.2% alc.(!) With grilled (beef) burgers. Recommended with reservations.

Served with cioppino, which worked great. A very classy, clean drinking zin, neither very big nor insipid. Fruit is very muted, perhaps with age. I would say this is around its peak.

- Crimsom color and aromas of violet and has flavours of raisin - Dennie and I shared it over a fresh Copper River salmon dinner with grilled pineapple nuggets and a mixed grill of purple and orange cauliflower, mushrooms and asparagus.

w sunday nite sausage from the bbq. Good match. Nice darkish color, good zin nose. On palate good roughish fruit. Very enjoyable. Nothing of a big body but welll made wine with fruit and acidity. Glad i opened it because this is not for ageing.

Medium violet-red color. On arrival, medium tannin and medium acidity restrain the intensity of flavor, but in the mid-palate the fruit density is released and increased . I like the power of fruit and structure that comes on here. Seems the most complete Ponzo bottling I've tasted. Very old fashioned zinfandel - bravo ! Dense and ripe fruit on the finish, not overripe or goop-y in the least. Bottle #1 of two.

Disappointed in this one, as I've come to expect great quality from Ridge wines. I decanted for more than an hour, but it never really opened up. Was sharp and harsh in my opinion, perhaps it will benefit from a couple years in the cellar?

I think the extra 1% of P. Syrah does a disservice to the Zin. Drank alongside the '09 but besides being 2 yrs older was a far superior wine. Maybe time will tell, but it was a confusing wine with the PS getting in the way of that wonderful Ridge Zin fruit.

Magenta on the rim and deep purple at the core. Notes of caramel, plum and Zin funk rise from the glass. Loads of caramel on the attack which mixes oddly with the sidecar flavors of plum and brambly Zin funk. Better than the 2010 we recently reviewed and showing some richness and brightness. Alas, no length or depth; a very one dimensional wine at this time. Usually with a wine of this age, I’d say “hold” but since it’s a Ponzo, who knows? 14.1% alc. With mushroom, pepperoni & onion pizza. Not Recommended.

vinturied 24 hours after delivery nose: black, very dark fruit palate: black plum, tart berry, some cellar dust, hidden, non-obtrusive tannin. The fruit appears separated from the acid by an invisible barrier, giving the impression of 'flatness' even while the wine's acidity is obvious to the tongue - it's weird. Maybe an artifact of the vinturi? Besides this disjunction, the wine is fruity yet brooding in a young, purple sort of way. I do like it, and for the price Ridge certainly delivers. My first Ponzo.

Opened due to concerns about heat during shipping. Hard decant, still very rough and undrinkable. Refrigerated overnight, and the next day it was quite pleasant. Needs time, or patience.

Musky blackberry aroma with some cedar and sweet spice. Opens sweet and jammy on the palate but develops a bright acidic note after a few seconds. Finishes with a fair amount of tannic grip. Flavors of black cherry, almond pit and black pepper.

This was pretty horrible after opening butt let it breath for an hour and it was acceptable. Clearly past it’s prime.

Lovely Zin; black fruit, spice, a hint of oak, a touch of pepper; no jamminess here, lovely and elegant, balanced and delicious.

Not certain when we pulled this, but it was within the past week. Not certain of the pairing. Typical Ponzo = alcohol that tastes like wine.l

Blackberry and plum and a little pepper and a lot of acid. A bit disjointed. Nice but was expecting more.
