PNP. Pale copper color. Apple, pear, honey, and subtle brioche. Mostly dry palate. Just the tiniest hint of sweetness. Modestly voluminous bubbles, which leaned toward the coarse end of the spectrum.
Overall, a very quaffable Champagne. This was served on my United flight from Houston to Munich.
Never disappoints. Pretty, soft nose of apple and apple blossoms. Darker fruit on the palate with a backbone of light toast. Light but in no way insubstantial.

The wine looks light gold colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon, lime, apple and biscuity. It tastes like grapefruit, lemon, lime, apple, pear, toast, apple blossom, bready and biscuity. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Its been while since I have tried this wine but this was a cost effective nice champagne . It was quite dry with an array of apples, pear and a little yeast extraction and a lively acidity that was very cleansing and enticing. Some more .... yes please

This bottle showed a little bit of bottle age. More weight, body, and tension which is something I'd like to see in Champagne. Nothing outstanding, just a nice rounded and solid bubbly, good for the price (when on offer of course).

PnP, served in a Grassl Champagne glass. A deeper golden hue in the glass than I had expected. Scents of brioche, green banana, and dark pretzel. The palate leads lean, and then fans out in the mid-palate with flavors of yellow apple, buttered Ritz, and lime linger nicely on the palate. There's a lovely core of acidity, that seems to wipe my tongue clean of each bit that I just put in my mouth. I'm really surprised & impressed that this is $36/bottle. I'm not sure how well this would last though. It's already looking quite advanced.

Another reminder why this is an excellent "house" champagne. Fine, attractive mousse, balanced acidity. Relatively light in body, which isn't to everybody's taste.

Fresh and delicate, with apples and silky creaminess (creme-fraiche). Not the most complex, but thirst quenching and easy to go. It meets a serious competition from traditional made sparklers around the world, and it might need to up its game to be more competitive on that side.

Dulcie's preferred birthday treat is Popeye's with champagne, and who am I to object? (Sidenote: Popeye's revitalized in the air-fryer is superior to the item freshly purchased in-store). The Blue Top is one of our favorites and one of the best values from the major houses. Note to self to reload.

4th Saturday Group: Uptown Brown Bag (MM’s): This had been in S' cellar for some time and has a good bit of age- purchased over 10 years if I recall. NV Champagnes can definitely age much better than most give credit for. Anyway, notes of apple and dough with toasted almond and cashew qualities as well. Medium bead. Flavors of bruised apple and bread dough, with a bit of toasted vanilla on the back end. Excellent. (SS)

This was the Champagne that was part of the premium drinks package on the Celebrity Millennium - disgorgement date is unknown (forgot to ask the Somm).
Bubbles were on the larger side given what I expect from Champagne. Fruity with pears and lemons, nutty, toasty. Nice acidity, light bodied, and a medium short finish. But what stood out to me were the toasted bread and nuts without veering to the heavy brioche flavors.
We consumed plenty of this over the week and really found it to be a great aperitif (which is where it shines). For a cocktail style Champagne, I would skip this and serve one with more body and finish.

Pop and pour into Tiffany flutes. Enjoyed with lemon waffles and buttermilk syrup (based on Lazy Day Cafe SLC diner item). Nice light straw color. Nose offers some bread notes and hint of citrus peel. Enjoyable, and easy to drink. Good effervescence and nice crisp finish.

While we enjoy the variability and uniqueness of the grower producers, you sometimes have to toast the major houses, for probably there would be no champagne without them. This particular one to us represents an excellent value (under $30 and a standout at the big Binny's binge last year (sigh)). Yeasty and toasty with bright fruit and zest it is just delicious.

not sure of the disgorgement but believe this bottle to be a few years out. moderate mousse with medium sized bead. brioche and tire rubber on the nose. medium bodied with medium acidity. blanched apple and some citric tones on the palate. mildly creamy. would guess dosage is significant. medium length finish. nothing outstanding about it but still smooth and pleasing.

The last of these bottles, and this one showed fine form. Quite fresh, with green apple, earthiness, and mineral tones. Squarely in its drinking window.

Light golden. Nutty, smoky, apple and brioche scents. On the palate good concentration and length with great complexity. For the last three decades this has been a champagne with good to great quality price ratio. This bottle is on the better end of this spread. Of course it is meant to be consumed within the next year or so. 5/12/17/8

At a jolly, albeit crowded, champagne tasting romp at the local Binny's, this Monopole stood out as the best combination of quality and value on offer among some fifty-odd offerings from both large houses and small. Nine years previously, at presumably a similar event, I had written something extremely obscure. I had a more positive reaction this time: relatively full-bodied, tight bead, creamy mouthfeel, moderate acidity, clean. What's not to like for under $30 these days?

Apparently disgorged in 2018 according to the box. Too sweet to me (my wife liked it) and quite simple. Far cry from the style and complexity of a bottle aged Lanson NV that is my benchmark champagne.

Pale yellow color with a vigorous bubble pour and a multii-strand small bubble perlage in a flute. Aromas of yeast, brioche, light butterscotch, and Bartlett pear. Significantly more complex, rich, and long after being opened for 2 days. On a Merry Christmas sale at a local Italian grocery store at the lowest price of $27 in the United States.

NV HEIDSIECK & CO. MONOPOLE CHAMPAGNE BLUE TOP BRUT- what a surprise to find this as my best in the flight as I`d had it before and found it to be just so so; this bottle had a light gold colour, a toasty brioche and mildly fruity nose and a taste profile that consisted of apple, pear and fresh citrus, all with that toasty note in the background; it was full bodied, creamy rich and flavourful and held on for a pleasing finish

Pale lemon in color. The nose offers medium intensity aromas of lemon zest, yellow apple, pear, and buttery biscuit. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium-plus acidity, medium body, and medium flavor intensity, with fairly simple lemon, pear, and biscuit notes. The finish is somewhat short and stops before the mid-palate. Not a bad bottle of bubbly, but not terribly complex or memorable. However, it has a roundness that tempers the acidity and makes it easy to drink.

A gift drunk before our wedding anniversary dinner at home with daughters and grandson. Much improved over my '14 note. Fruit driven (apple and ripe pear) and tad of zest with enough acidity to balance. Simple and very commercial but none the worse for that. Less dry finish than many. Moreish. 88+

The champagne was light gold in colour, with medium fine perlage of medium-size bubbles. It offered citrus, some apple, some brioche and a hint of smoke on the nose and palate, with aggressive mousse, medium-plus acidity and average length. A light-bodied, entry-level champagne without much depth or concentration.

Ripe and oxidative aromas of red delicious apples and hints of caramel and toast sweetness. A little bottle age, maybe? Ripe orchard fruit flavors are flanked by hint of honeysuckle, ample acidity and a fine, active bead. Crushed rock minerality adds complexity to the finish.

This came up at Total Wines for an attractive price. For me it was unattractive, nothing wrong with the bottle. For a Brut it is sweet, something no appealing for me. Fine small bubbles, citrus nose, limited flavor interest - no creaminess or bread/biscuit that I love (Bollinger Special is my go to, on the chard side Lancelot Royer Cv de Chevaliers). The finish is sweet, average, not noteworthy. I bought this on notes, don't know what I got versus everyone else but it doesn't sound the same and this well stored, undamaged wine. The domestic Ferrer vintage is far better.

This was gifted by a dear friend several years ago. It was opened on the occasion of closing on a new home. In short, it was superb. I see ratings of 88-89. For me those are the ratings I give NV Methode Champenoise Sparkling wines from California (and NM) and the better Prosecco's that I keep for more everyday drinking. This blows all of them away. Boom. Gone. On a relative ratings scale where this is compared to other Champagne's, this is/was right up there. I was reminded of 82 Pol Roger Cuvee Winston Churchill (of course it was years ago and of course this was a special occasion and of course... , but you get the drift). This was a bottle that out performed what I had thought it might be. Never underestimate setting, but always bring something equal to the occasion. I'm not sure I have ever had this wine before, but will be purchasing more for the next special occasion...

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (The Anvil Club, East Dundee, IL): A nonblind Champagne to start the evening, as is the tradition when we host one of the tasting groups. We picked these up recently for $20, and for the price, this is a nice little bubbly. Opens with a rich yeasty note with apple and almond underneath. Soft toast with medium bead and a nice finish. Really very nice introductory champagne. It compares very favorably with similarly priced offerings in the US such as Schramsberg. Lots of tiny bubbles exploding in the mouth. Flavors of apple, pear, and perhaps a hint of lemon. Certainly not the greatest, but at the price, $28, it has a nice QPR.

This bottle must have been sitting on the local newsagent's shelf for years. It had lost much of its gas and the cork did not expand at all. Poured a beautiful shade of amber. Palate showed apple skin and glints of honey. Unfortunately there was also some oxidation, cardboard character and bitterness. Clearly flawed, but interesting to drink.

The wine was light yellow-golden in colour, with medium intense, medium fine perlage. I'm not a big fan of the Blue Top, but I found this bottle in the back of the cellar where it had been sitting for a few years. Pleasant surprise: creamier and more complex than I recall, with nice toasty brioche notes. I wonder if 48 months in a dark room did it some good.

I bought this on a whim after a memorial service to celebrate the deceased. I was in the Mid-West, so sadly, the choices were rather mundane. It has been a while since I had a Blue Top, so I opted for this over the more pricey Veuve Clicquot. Not disappointed at all. Good depth and sparkle--it did lack a little in backbone, but I nit-pick. If you can get this for $30, buy it. At the $45 I paid? A bit of a wash.... Very Good. thedrunkencyclist.com

One dimensional when first poured but gained some character as it breathed and warmed in the glass. Apple, yeast, lemon/citrus, and a strong hit of ginger that imparted both spice and a somewhat bitter note. The finish feels hollow. For a daily drinker sparkler, I prefer the Rotari Brut for about a third of the price.

Charity Derby lunch for MND research. Following a bottle of Ayala probably did this bottle no favours. Seemed clumsy effort by comparison. Yeasty, fullish bodied sour red fruit flavours. The score might seem a bit mean but we have to remember that 82 means 'good'.
I opened this alongside Piper Heidsieck NV. It was sweeter on the nose (yes I know you can't smell sweetness but it had that sherbet lemon thing going on) and in that sense it was similar to an english sparkler. On the palate, things were pretty short and it tasted a little like Prossecco with a nod to the mid-range English sparkling wines.
Overall however, this performed well for its offer price of £12.49 and performed its role on Xmas day (no note as I was drinking something else). This is a presentable option if you need 'party champagne' but not worth its price when it's at £25-£30.

Used two bottles from the same store for a tasting. First bottle showed possible signs of trauma with a shrunken cork, but was not flawed. Had this as part of several flights of champagne/sparkling wine the evening on New Year's Eve with 9 people. Overall, disappointing. Still the smallest and most bubbles of any sparkler we've had. But the nose and palate were a bit thin, weak and short. Not much mouthfeel. Nothing like the previous bottles we've had.

Bright straw color. Very lively mousse. Aromas of apples, minerals and baked bread. Ripe fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length and good complexity for a NV. A bit touch much sugar to warrant a higher score.

Sampled 7/9/10. A slightly sweeter than most Brut, but a well made wine with good balance on the acid and sugar element. Apple notes come through most but there is some straw and minerals as well. This wine is also bigger and bolder than other comparatively prices NVs such as Taittinger.

A pretty basic NV brut, nothing special. Interesting to note that the wine began to show good red fruit (strawberry, cherry) once it was in the glass quite a while and lost its fizz and warmed up a bit. It was very tight when first poured. I would expect more from a $30 bottle.

Light, straw coloured with fine beads. Lemon and faint minerals on the nose. Refreshing, a bit creamy, with apple and pear in the mouth. Nice balance. Not very complex. Medium length. Lovely as a simple aperitif. 83/100

This has evolved with bottle age dropping the crisp acidic apple and pear notes for a wonderfully full-bodied, vanilla, toast, stone fruit flavor and dry without being bone dry. I like it better than when I bought it.

A nose of creamy fruitiness rather than any obvious yeast notes or minerality. Ripe apple and some lemon pie. Dry and quite refreshing with a dessert cream -like fruity moussé. Some welcomed nutty and slightly bitter notes towards the finish. This note is from a piccolo, since I bought one just to make myself a Black Velvet. Served the purpose - so I definitely could buy a whole bottle to mess around.

Purchased off the list at Lalimes (Berkeley) for dinner on New Year's Eve. Quick notes: very dark earth and nut notes. Fair to Good. I realized that I'm just not a fan of champs with these darker tastes.

Light golden straw color. Tiny bubbles. Big yeasty and doughy nose, but also with a crisp tropical fruit twist. Same on the palate. Great full bodied wince, but with great acidity to balance it out.

I let this sit open for about a half hour and the flavors and aromas just came to life. Light gold in color. The nose revealed buttermilk biscuit and toasty notes with floral components and a touch of honey. Lots of butter on the palate with a bit of honey and some minerality. As the bottle sat open and it settled down the honey flavor really shined through. A very pleasing champagne for the price point.

I found this champagne to actually stand up better when it was allowed to breathe for about an hour. The high acidic smell picked up when it was first opened died off quickly when allowed to sit. Toasted biscuits and honey on the nose, on the palate you pick up a lot of butter and floral essence. This was my first serious tasting of a champagne and I was overall impressed with the power of it.

Anniversary Weekend - 2009; 10/2/2009-10/4/2009 (Minnesota): What a great progression over the last two years. Now - some toast on the nose, medium-bodied smooth palate, no rough edges, nice finish. Says something for storing current disgorgement NV Champ.

I purchased this for a bargain with the intention to make champagne cocktails, but we all agreed this was too delicious to adulterate. It opened nicely over time, and even though it is a NV, I will hold my other bottles to let the flavors integrate.

Initially - Would be better with food. Starts off a little tart on its own. My palate would like a little less acidity and a touch more focus / liveliness, a little drier. Nice green apples and pear on the palate. Update - Interestingly, I find this to get better in the glass - after a bit of time some of the initial tartness seems to blow off leaving a much better overall impression. Smooths out, and becomes a VC killer.

shared with pat, mike, debbie, tammy and dave (and their neighbor) in boca on new year's eve. a very acceptable champage. but in the end, i think one is paying for the brand moreso than the quality of the product. good fruit and yeast flavors but they do not fill the mouth. modest body and short finish. nice pinpoint bubbles. everything is tightly wrapped but tends to fade after 15 minutes.

taste: lighter feel with yeast, lemons, and mineral tones. lighter acidity on this bottling, but nice depth with the lighter and easier feel
overall: an enjoyable and affordable bubbly. While not really bring either lots of complexity or depth, there is something to like about this that satisfies and works

12.0% alcohol. A touch of seepage around the side of the cork. It didn't seem to negatively affect the wine. Bright yellow color. Lovely, confident bouquet of apple, pear, yeasty bread, and minerals. In the mouth, lean and svelte, with plenty of tart fruit and a strong streak of acidity. Perhaps you want a little more flesh from it on the body, but it's a cool, refreshing drink and good value. B+

IMO you've gotta spend a significant amount more to recognize a step up in quality. This is a very nice Frenchy to open a meal or accompany a myriad of hors douvres. Solid, not remarkable or sensational, but balanced with the right tartness and ample bubbles.

(Drank at the Capital Grille.) Medium-bodied, soft, simple, showing pear and green apple and perhaps some ginger. It's totally agreeable and easygoing, but there's still enough acid for structure. It's not exactly deep or profound. I'd put it right in the middle of the pack as run-of-the-mill $35 NVs go. (Tasted twice, on 10/5/2008 and 12/28/2009. The second time it was much more structured, chalky, and citrusy. A totally different style in that latter bottling, but warrants the same score, I think.)

taste: easy feel with clear tones of yeast, apples, and baking spices
overall: a really nice champagne. Nice depth of flavor, though there isn't a ton going on with them. Always a good standby that you know will generally perform well and this one provided a nice apple attack and yeasty finish

Fresh citrus flavours with green apples. Good length with a gentle grip on the palate that slides away nicely. Off-dry with some sweet apple notes. This is absolutely fabulous with the spicy peranakan food. This champagne not only provides lot of drinking fun but also has a magical cleansing effect that neutralises the heat.

Drank at Bibik Neo, a Peranakan restaurant in Melaka, with Elsa, Alex and Fiona. Green gold colour. Very thin mousse, rather large but persistent bead. This was extremely fruity, with strong cirtus scents on the nose, with tangerine and green apple flavours. A little bready accent, and a touch of minerality added some interest on the palate. Nice balance - good acid, making it nice and fresh. Decent length. Very simple, but yummy. I thought this wine was great value, simple but delicious, and that it paired brilliantly with the spicy and flavourful Peranakan food, with the bubbles and freshness cleansed the palate very nicely, and the sweetness complemented the food excellently.

We drank the Monopole Blue Top Brut NV and promptly forgot it. Which is also what happened to the passengers on the Titanic shortly after they drank it. The wine is pretty to look at before you open the bottle, but unimpressive in the glass. Not a bad champagne, just not a good one either.

Very nice aromatics - yeasty and biscuity. Very fine perlage with many bubbles. Quite lemony and a bit tart on the palate. The strong lemon element is not my favorite style of champagne, so I like the nose better than the palate. This is different from earlier bottles I've had of this, which I would rate 91-92. Not sure what the difference was between bottles, although this one aged at least a year in my closet. This yellow bottle Premier Cru version is better than the normal Blue Top, but only by a point or two. Definitely well-made and a very nice bottle of bubbly.

A good bottle of sub-30 USD bubbly. It is on the sweet side of brut, but shows some decent notes of bread, pear, and peach. Nothing to "Wow" you, but a good party bubbly that won't break your wallet too much. More impressive than I expected. Heidsieck Monopole has improved under Vranken believe it or not.

Rather than rating this, I'll save that for a later bottle. This one was consumed (i) warm, and (ii) from a rather odd glass, so it was a bit tough to figure out what was present. Seemed to be a bit on the sweet side for a brut, and with an odd caramel mouthfeel, but again it's tough to tell under the circumstances. Perhaps all that matters about this particular bottle on this particular night was that we were celebrating with friends the end of a dear friend's round of chemo; frankly, the company mattered far more than the wine.

There's a lovely core of acidity, that seems to wipe my tongue clean of each bit that I just put in my mouth. I'm really surprised & impressed that this is $36/bottle.

Nose dominated by autolytic flavours - bread, dough, toast, and a touch of green apple. The palate broadens to encompass lemon, butter and mushrooms.

However, it was much fuller and further along than bottle #2. The second bottle was younger and fresher with better balance. A bit less brioche and a little more balance in the younger wine. 88/90.

Tasted February 25, 2005 at an offline at The Wine Sellar & Brasserie in San Diego, CA so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately in Spiegelau Champagne glasses. Light yellor color in the glass. Nose of apple, citrus and a small about of cookie dough. Very light and crisp on the palate with flavors of apple and lemon zest. Good QPR. Drink now.

The original Heidsick site. 60% Chard, 40% Pinot Noir. Some funk on the nose and a little thin on the palate in comparison to the other Champagnes. WS89. I give it 85-86.

With Karen Jones and BLR at London Wine Bar after work. Yellow-gold. Medium bead. Light nose; shy. Frothy on the palate. Sharp. Tight. Just OK. 4-9-13-6: 82/100.
