Nose has a tangy red cherry, that cough linctus element I like. Lovely palate with a deep cherry element to it and good structure. Lovely but maybe not as exciting as it could have been.

North & Central Italy offline (Terra Rossa, London N1): Sand dust and red fruit on the nose. Slightly grainy tannins but really delicious red fruit. Seemed youthful but lovely to drink now, although you could safely forget about it in the cellar. Double decanted 4 hours ahead.

North & Central Italy (Terra Rossa): Fresh and pulpy with some VA. Tomato and umami depth, marmite, cola bottle sweets. A lightness of touch and high-toned character plays nicely against those deeper notes.

I have tried to be patient with this wine after acquiring a case several years ago, knowing that Barolo can take many years of aging to show its best. However, although there is good underlying structure of wine including some pleasant fruit, I cannot quite get past the unpleasant dominance of tart tannins that became very unpleasant by the time I had finished the fully decanted bottle at the end of the evening. This has always been something I have struggled with in this wine and I had hoped that after 13 years we might finally get to enjoy something more rounded. Maybe another 10-15 years might do the trick, however I am not so sure given the current rate of improvement, and my lack of experience in holding wines for so long. Personally I don't mind holding wines for 10-15 years to enjoy at their peak - however significantly longer and I start to question the value proposition.

Tonight, this bottle of 2010 Fenocchio Barolo “Villero” gave a masterclass on the character and virtues of the Villero MGA. I have always felt that massive patience would be required for the 2010 vintage since the wines are so structured. However, the Villero fruit, as it so often does, showed through with aplomb. The most prized parcels are located in the upper portions of the vineyard and this is where Giacomo Fenocchio’s holdings reside.
Opened and simply allowed to breathe for about an hour before dinner. In the glass, the wine pours a luminous ruby color with a transparent core. No staining of the tears. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is expressive with notes of dark cherries, sandalwood, anise, fresh red roses and tar. On the palate, the wine is bone dry and the structure, in typical 2010 fashion, remains monumental…even at 12 years of age. In fact, the tannin seemed to build as the hours went by. That being said, the fruit was still abundant and full of class: cherries, forest strawberries, dry earth, spiced meat and minerals. Juicy and textured at the same time and the finish was hedonistic. While this is already drinking so well, this will have a long life. Drink now with patience and through 2040.
Similar notes to 2020. Decanted for 90 minutes and drank over the course of 3 hours. Improved throughout the night and the last glass was the best. Will continue to improve, but if drinking now would be best with a 3+ hour decant

Open and expressive nose with rosy perfumes, open-knit fruit as well as remarkable complexity and typicity. The taste shows notable balance and finesse, with silky texture and a saline, mineral finish. Probably smack in the middle of its drinking window.

Served pop and pour as a BYO at a restaurant, the first bottle from a case of 6. The colour is on the darker side of red. There's tar and rose petals on the nose, real energy, concentration and structure on the palette - and beautifully balanced. It has Grand Cru pedigree in spades and potential to cellar for another two decades at least. Stellar and intriguing to drink now although not nearly ready. Tasted from a Jancis Robinson wine glass at Portland Restaurant, London.

Decanted and allowed to breathe for two hours before serving. This is still a juvenile with a long life ahead of it. Just the same, it is gorgeous now and the extra tannic bite of its youth gave it some backbone to stand up to the richness of wild boar ragu (thanks, Tim, for the wild boar!!!). If drinking now, give lots of air, but the wine will be better served by allowing them to rest for another five years, at least.

On the nose, jammy dark plums, flowers, and tobacco. Dark dry fruit on the palate with a deep tannic bite on the palate and a sweet touch of acid, a slightly port-like aroma on the back. Interesting, more intellectual than emotional right now. Has promise, but this is not it's moment.

Hint av maling, litt te, lakris. I munnen noe rips, litt tynn frukt, men likevel intens først i munnen. Litt bitter i ettersmaken.

Moderately expressive and complex aromatics of cherries, strawberries, roses, tar, nuts and mushrooms, followed by fresh, round and juicy taste with very good acidity, intensity and pretty outspoken structure. Let this breathe for two hours or decant before serving. Will probably get more expressive in a few years. Very nice.

This was quite a pleasant surprise. Ripe and fruity nose. Textbook autumn leaves, cherry and dried fruits. Perfumed and interesting nose of strawberry jam and liquorice in the back together with a slight note of wet wood. Very playful aroma occasionally showing of some floral elements.
The palate displays powerful round fruit. Quite nice acidity yielding a beautifully balanced wine. Harmonious and smooth tannins and excellent energy. I am surprised by how forward this wine was. This is drinking very well now. Detailed and long finish.

Good traditional barolo. Visited the cantina in november and tasted this and the Bussia. This barolo will be great but right now a bit akward and young..but it is going to be another great 2010 barolo.
Popped and let air for just 15 minutes. Aromas are incredibly pure and delicious, showing tons of rich strawberries, crushed cherry, blueberries, heavy potpourri, and a little bit of creamed licorice that's fantastic. Really beautiful, fresh, deep and lusciously pure aroma. Incredibly and surprisingly expressive. Palate entry is a little thin and quite quickly attacks with tons of tannins. Lots of compact fruit, tar, forest and imposing, fine grained tannin. The finish is initially rather tight and compact, but after just 5 seconds things blossom and open up. There is also a little bit of noticeable alcohol that gets in the way ever so slightly. After a few minutes I have flavors of woody stems, grape skins and a little bit of tar. Small, short sips on this do best. A wine of imposing structure, but with the amazing aromatic profile (the most remarkable 2010 I've wiffed) and compact palate and finish (though balanced in its structure), this wine is setup to age wonderfully. Score for consumption today, but this a wine to watch, and I'll be adding more bottles as it could be magical in 20+ years, but I do think it needs that to approach a proper window. Aside from the evocative nose (which would make this a 95 point wine if it followed through), it's not much fun to drink today.
